In a cafe, and a woman has just complained (funny)

She'd ordered a bacon sandwich and it's just been delivered to the table. She's now moaning because her bacon sandwich has a tiny crumb of black pudding on it. And she doesn't eat pork.

I feel for the poor staff having to explain which animal bacon comes from 😬

(And no, there's no vegan bacon on the menu so not a mix up!)

This reminds me of a friend of mine trying to order a cheeseburger with no cheese in McDonald's. She meant a quarter pounder with no cheese but honestly, seeing her try and explain it, getting squeakier and squeakier was so funny. The poor girl behind the till just didn't know what to tell her!

Tbf though McDonalds is annoying in that they don't have a plain Quarterpounder - it's a Quarterpounder with Cheese. I hate cheese, so have to remove it from the order before placing the order. Despite it clearly being ordered without cheese & even having a sticker on it saying No Cheese - it still often comes with cheese & promptly gets sent back.
So I have to order a Quarterpounder with Cheese Without Cheese Confused

But at least I know bacon comes from a 🐷!

Her scone has just arrived. Looks like a fruit one. I hope she eats grapes 🤣😬

She eats raisins but not grapes.

JusteanBiscuits · 15/11/2022 13:22

I live in an area with a large Muslim population. Most of the cafes round here are Halal. They ALL, without exception, call turkey Bacon turkey bacon, not BACON.

Porkmarking.

Ah, ya bugger. I just thought of that! 🐷

TheDuck2018 · 15/11/2022 13:22

Eat not ear. No ears in haggis. I can’t speak for what’s in a sausage though (mum used to say ‘everything but the squeek’)

My mum used to say similar. When she was a child, most families in their rural area used to raise a pig to be slaughtered and eaten. And she says the sausages contained "everything except the grunt". 🤣🤣

This reminds me of the time my eldest was a baby (I’m going back 26+ years)
wed stopped off at a cafe, that we’d never been to before-nice enough place
we ordered an ice cream sundae with ‘hot fudge’ topping
babies father sent it back as the hot fudge topping was cold

i couldn’t be with someone that thick and broke up with him not long after

ill never forget the pitiful look the owner gave me as we left

I think I'd have expected the hot fudge sauce to be hot/warm, too - what do you think it should have been?

It like to know too, I assumed it was a warm sauce on the sundae. Am I about to have my bacon/pork moment?

OP, on your way out whisper "you do know scones are made from chinchillas don't you"

Hot fudge sauce is usually served hot though?

It was made very clear on the menu that it was just chocolate sauce that for some reason was called ‘hot fudge’
I don’t know why-it was vaguely warm-but not good enough for my ex who demanded it was boiling hot-which would have melted the ice cream
he was a real arsehole-and the way he ranted at the poor woman was disgusting

Oh I have to admit I’m another that didn’t know hot fudge sauce was cold. I mean, the name doesn’t exactly give it away.

JusteanBiscuits · 15/11/2022 13:26

In the US, hot fudge / caramel sauce basically means it's runny!

But I only recently learnt this, so I would 100% expect hot sauce to either be (temperature) hot or spicy (as in the hot honey I love!)

It's the way the system is set up unfortunately! And don't forget, the kitchen staff are making loads of burgers per hour, most of which won't be grill (aka altered) orders. Quite easy to go on auto pilot and just make the standard item, even with a grill sticker!

Husband is coming back!

I was on holiday (UK tourist area) last year and went to a burger bar near the beach to buy lunch. My mum doesn't like melted cheese so I ordered three cheeseburgers (for the rest of us) and one hamburger.

The girl serving looked at me blankly and questioned me on what a hamburger was. I had to explain to her that it was a cheeseburger without the cheese. She then had to speak to a colleague to ask if they could do this.

When she rang it through the till she confirmed the order as "three cheeseburgers and one cheeseburger without cheese". I've never known anyone not know what a hamburger is (has she never been to McDonalds?!) and she made ordering lunch far more stressful than it should have been!

Not disputing his arsehole credentials but I think it’s fair enough to expect a hot fudge sauce to be hot.

DH orders a cappuccino without the foam. It's embarrassing.

I'm intrigued....what does he end up with?

SenecaFallsRedux · 15/11/2022 13:32

Not where I live in the US or anywhere I have been in the US. Hot fudge is supposed to be warm to hot. And thick. It melts the ice cream a bit, which is the point of it.

Comefromaway · 15/11/2022 13:33

I would send something back that had a tiny piece of black pudding on too as I have food sensory issues. But I would know that bacon was a pig.

Probably a white coffee, which actually makes sense as you cannot order a simple white coffee these days. A flat white would be too strong whereas if you replace the foam layer of a capo with milk you get what used to be a white coffee.

It will be cold now

Bless you, you sound really mournful at the prospect. 😁
