In a cafe, and a woman has just complained (funny)

She'd ordered a bacon sandwich and it's just been delivered to the table. She's now moaning because her bacon sandwich has a tiny crumb of black pudding on it. And she doesn't eat pork.

I feel for the poor staff having to explain which animal bacon comes from 😬

(And no, there's no vegan bacon on the menu so not a mix up!)

Lets hope the newly ordered scone doesn't come with something she doesn't eat like butter or raisins etc.

Or should that be lets hope it does ?

Reminds me of a woman at work who thought a gammon steak came from an animal called a Gammon. She even drew a picture of what said Gammon looked like which looked like some sort of demented chicken. We were all, including her, in hysterics.

I've also been in a restaurant where someone sent their smoked salmon back because it wasn't cooked

My parenst are from another country and once when here my Jewish mother ordered gammon in a pub. She assumed it was a type of fish. I did stop her though and we laughed about it alot.

That was a genuine mistake because she ahd never heard the word before.

You can’t go to your appointment OP. Sorry. 😄

booksandcaffeine · 15/11/2022 13:11

CitizenofMoronia · 15/11/2022 13:12

HappyHamsters · 15/11/2022 13:13

You can’t go to your appointment OP. Sorry. 😄

Might be worth leaving the car there to see how this pans out. 🤣

All quite for now. She's typing on her phone. Husband has gone outside for a smoke. Think he probably needs it.

This reminds me of a friend of mine trying to order a cheeseburger with no cheese in McDonald's. She meant a quarter pounder with no cheese but honestly, seeing her try and explain it, getting squeakier and squeakier was so funny. The poor girl behind the till just didn't know what to tell her!

BronwenFrideswide · 15/11/2022 13:15

Perhaps some kind soul could google on their smartphone the origins of bacon and show it to said woman, or maybe the packaging on the bacon has the words - pork product - on it and the staff can show her that.

Look what I found when I googled:

Bacon can come from a pig's belly, back or sides — essentially anywhere that has an exceptionally high fat content. In the United Kingdom, back bacon is most common, but Americans are more familiar with “streaky” bacon, also known as side bacon, which is cut from pork belly.

It even came with a handy image of a pig!

I was with someone once who ordered a latte 'but don't make it too milky'.

Well I'm invested, sorry OP you don't need your car, our need is greater...

DH orders a cappuccino without the foam. It's embarrassing.

allthedragons · 15/11/2022 13:18

She's probably on MN on her phone: 'AIBU? My husband now insists bacon is pork...'

I'd refund her the money, for the free entertainment for the staff and customers.

mindutopia · 15/11/2022 13:19

If not for the husband bit, I would think it is my work colleage (she's single, and not yet middle aged). She is a vegetarian, except for bacon, she eats bacon. When I explained to her that dh and I were raising pigs, she was so excited as she loves pigs and always wanted one as a pet. There was then about 30 seconds, when the wheels in her head looked to be turning, and then she said, 'you're not going to eat them are you?' (we are) Oh, I couldn't do that, I'm a vegetarian, except I do like bacon, had a bacon sarnie on the way in this morning (said entirely non-ironically, I'll point out). She's very lovely actually, but not the sharpest crayon in the box.

She's probably looking it up herself, as she doesn't believe anyone else.
GloomyDarkness; In the days when airlines actually gave you a meal, my DH always ordered a vegetarian one. He wasn't, and didn't claim to be vegetarian; he was just an incredibly picky eater, who didn't eat fish or poultry (which were both frequent options on planes)

DontEatAnythingWithoutAFace · 15/11/2022 13:20

Reminds me of the time I complained about blue mould at the base of my pizza. Relieved server came out to say it ok it is only blue kitchen roll!
Was embarrassed but then politely pointed out I didn’t want to eat kitchen roll either and it was fused in with cheese.

hesbeingabitofadick · 15/11/2022 13:21

@QuestionableMouse do they have a tripadvisor type review website that she can moan about being served pig when ordering, erm, pig?
loving the real time updates

This reminds me of the time my eldest was a baby (I’m going back 26+ years)
wed stopped off at a cafe, that we’d never been to before-nice enough place
we ordered an ice cream sundae with ‘hot fudge’ topping
babies father sent it back as the hot fudge topping was cold

i couldn’t be with someone that thick and broke up with him not long after

ill never forget the pitiful look the owner gave me as we left

I would also expect hot fudge sauce to be hot. Why would it be cold? It's not infused with hot chilli sauce or anything. Proper hot fudge sauce is lovely on ice cream.
