In a cafe, and a woman has just complained (funny)

QuestionableMouse · 15/11/2022 12:15

She'd ordered a bacon sandwich and it's just been delivered to the table. She's now moaning because her bacon sandwich has a tiny crumb of black pudding on it. And she doesn't eat pork.

I feel for the poor staff having to explain which animal bacon comes from 😬

(And no, there's no vegan bacon on the menu so not a mix up!)

@Harrysnippleno3 I don't look stupid - I am a world wide Nomad with experience of other cultures (also white, middle aged, British, AND DON'T EAT PORK) Something that a lot of people on this thread don't understand.

I also don't assume bacon is from pig only, because quite often it isn't.

You called me narrow minded for suggesting BACON is BACON. That's really stupid.

Bacon - noun

cured meat from the back or sides of a pig.

In UK it is standardly pork.
I am not British, travelled, spent time with in laws in ME and even they know bacon, unless in hala place or specified is pork....

menopausalbloat · 15/11/2022 16:16

Who'd have thought, that a post about a person's confusion regarding pig meat, could be interpreted in so many different ways? Mind blown.

Everanewbie · 15/11/2022 16:17

Giving the "cultural differences" posters, and I suppose by extension, the bacon lady in question the benefit of the doubt, for a second. If you have made this faux pas in public, why the hell do you double down instead of apologising for your mistake and admiting that every day is a school day? (Well, most people know this by nursery, never mind school!)

If I'd made such a ridiculous mistake, I'd be embarrassed and apologise profusely.

RampantIvy · 15/11/2022 16:17

I think you will find that in 99% of cases in a cafe, especially a greasy spoon cafe in this country it will be @WowserBear. In fact unless it states otherwise I would go so far as to say in 100% of cases.

StickySnotBalls · 15/11/2022 16:17

@WowserBear , if I ordered a bacon butty and it wasn't pork I would complain as that the norm in this country
If its not pork I would expect them to state that on the menu

Sorry but I laughed out loud at this. Could you sound anymore pompous. A world wide nomad, please 😂. RTFT, all your “salient” points have been discussed to death.

Not 👏the 👏same👏thing 👏

If you said I don’t want haggis BECAUSE I don’t eat sheep, whilst tucking into a lamb chop, that would be the same thing.

Alright matey calm down.

Yeah you're right 😂

WowserBear · 15/11/2022 16:08

@Harrysnippleno3 Not nonsense at all - how narrow minded of you - bacon does not have to be pork. In many countries it isn't.

😂But OP's experience didn't happen in many countries.
It happened in a British greasy spoon. To a middle aged white British woman.

brighterthanthemoon · 15/11/2022 16:21

It wasn't even black pudding. It was burnt bread.

Where is the evidence she didn't do this? The OP hasn't reported any specific conversation after the original mistake was explained.

PaidthepiperTuneismine · 15/11/2022 14:27

Look. Laugh as you wish, but that is what some religions teach. Pork ok. Black pudding not ok.

Lucky for everyone that the "black pudding" turned out to be burnt bread roll edge.

Everanewbie · 15/11/2022 16:22

Bacon isn't necessarily pork? Heard it all now.

Seems vegan black pudding is a thing - now I'm wondering if it's any good.

@QuestionableMouse Hi. As the only witness, in your opinion, do you think bacon lady was apologetic when it was pointed out that bacon was low and behold, a pig product? Or did she continue to debate this and blag a free scone as a bribe to shut her up? From your posts it sounded like the latter, but @AnApparitionQuipped wants evidence. You're my best hope to satisfy this!
