Just added to a thread about discontinued confectionery. Made me think about adverts that stick in your mind. What nostalgic adverts do you remember well?

Who can forget this classic?

RobertaFirmino · 13/11/2022 01:06

Showing my age here but the Cadbury's Caramel bunny and the Flake advert that was very blow jobby. There was also a Walls ad which appeared to show a cooking sausage at first but panned back to reveal a sunbathing woman.

Oh god, there was the Simplicity ad too - take everything in your stri-ide!

Hamlet cigar ads, they were brilliant

Like my Murphys, I'm not bitter

God I get soooo nostalgic for adverts. I don’t watch tv now because my dad is autistic and won’t have it on, and I get so sad thinking he won’t get the same feeling of nostalgia. In fact he loathes adverts and I’m starting to think nostalgia makes him very uncomfortable so maybe for the best.

OK, one advert no one ever remembers - Ruddles Real Ale. I saw it late one night in the early 90s and I was transfixed. It had very very strong Edward Lear/ Gormenghast vibes, lots of mad old posh people sat at a decadent long table with lots of weird things on it - they start spinning in their chairs at one point. Dawn French was in it, dressed up as a man (who looked like Mel Smith!). A strange nursery-rhyme like poem is read - I think it started with ‘Malcolm the porcupine went to sea…’ or something like that. If I hadn’t seen it on YouTube a while back I would have thought it was a fever dream.

Not too old but the Sainsbury's WW1 trenches advert won Christmas hands down that year :)

I would have guessed longer ago that that. I thought late 90s!

Loved those British Gas Ads with Nick Park animation animals were set to real conversations.

Guy in a hotel can't work the triple X channel, calls a staff member for help, covers up his embarrassing mobile phone, Paul Merton says "ashamed of your mobile" funny ones are the most memorable.

Follow the bear. Hoffmeister lager.

My father used to fancy Sharon Maughan from the Nescafé gold blend ads, meanwhile my mother used to be swooning over the truck driver in the Yorkie ads 😂

The Guinness one with the man prancing about to music while he was waiting for his pint always made me laugh.

Does anyone remember an ad for Calor Gas or some kind of fuel, with Joanne Ridley getting ready for her first date? The end of it featured her and her new boyfriend riding through the countryside on a tandem bike.

The Turtles song 'Happy Together' was playing as the soundtrack. Does anyone remember and how I can see it again?

YouTube is probably your best bet.
