Just added to a thread about discontinued confectionery. Made me think about adverts that stick in your mind. What nostalgic adverts do you remember well?

I often get an earworm that goes,

’My niece bought this from Shackleton’s you know…Shackleton’s high seat chair…it’s lovely.’ It was an old lady raving about her new chair.

Nobody remembers it.

Me and DH remember it!

Our armchair is the Shackletons High Seat Chair.
It's not, but if we're sitting in it we say 'I'm having the Shackletons High Seat Chair'

Oh how we laugh.

90's Toys R Us!

^There's millions, says Geoffrey, all under one roof

Toys R Us, Toys R Us, Toys R Us^

Will0wtree · 12/11/2022 09:02

The series of ads for coffee where Anthony Stewart Head was flirting with Sharon Maughan. In each ad their relationship progressed a little bit.

InsuranceForU18s · 12/11/2022 09:27

Arghhhh, I'm still struggling with this teen one. I feel like it must've been 90s and relatable to me. It was a teen girl pining, I'm sure of it. Moving around her house cos she couldn't settle. Was it Robert Plant's Addicted to Love?

Also the Yellow Pages one when he calls a French Polisher for the table and then spots the 'tache.

Happiness is a cigar called Hamlet

There was a lovely one which was a dog food ad, it had hundreds of dogs running on a hillside to cheerful music , can’t remember which dog food it was.

In the 80s I remember one with a milkman delivering milk. All the milk bottles were dancing behind him in a line. And scuttling off to which ever house he said. I loved that one when I was little.

Was it ‘cool for cats’ soundtrack too? I think I remember this one.

"And all because the lady loves Cadbury Milk Tray" with the James bond like character in black.
Ready Brek ad with the children walking to school surrounded by a red glow of warmth.

Yes I remember that one too, but can't remember what it's for?

Loads of the ads already mentioned from the '70s and '80s..

One I don't think anyone has mentioned is the 4711 ad from the late '70s. I've just played the ad for some '70s nostalgia.

The Impulse ads - "When a man you've never met before suddenly gives you flowers, that's Impulse".

The Bodyform ads. All together now - "Wooooaaaah, Bodyform, Bodyform for youuuuuu".

Kelloggs Country Store - "Bring me apples, bring me honey, bring me hazelnuts, bring me wheat, Bring me good things to eat. With Kelloggs Country Store".

Kelloggs Bran Flakes "They're tasty, tasty, very, very tasty - so very tasty".

Alphabites

"A is for Alpha
B is for Bites
C for yourself that they taste just right
D is for dinner
E is for eggs
F's for fishfingers or even frogs legs"

Coke ad - "First time, first love"

Le Piat D'or - "The only French you'll ever need"

The ads were great back then - like mini movies. We were a captive audience because there was no way to fast forward the ads or skip them. You had to sit through them or go put the kettle on and make tea.

If you have a look on YouTube, you'll find some '70s and '80s ad compilations.

There was a series of adds for gold blend about someone moving into a flat. Can't remember if he moved in next to her or she moved in next to him. Spawned a whole series of ads on their budding relationship.

Then there was the bisto family.

Have a cracking Christmas from Woolworths!
That tin of Quality street…the size of it! It would be the equivalent of £25 today!

That is my favourite ever Christmas ad and I vividly remember my disappointment when it stopped appearing after Christmas that year.

The prices are interesting - you'd get a lot more for £199 buying stereo equipment nowadays.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 12/11/2022 12:31

Beware the Judderman my dear when the moon is fat
Sharp of tongue and spindle limbed he is, and cunning

Loved this one!

AnApparitionQuipped · 12/11/2022 12:38

Hope it's chips!

Midland Bank has very good ears!

May the walls of Birmingham wipe clean of pea and ham

I could do with a D!

I remember one from the eighties for Calor gas I think it was....Joanne Ridley was a teenager getting ready for her first date. At the end she was on a tandem bicycle with her new boyfriend. It had the music Happy Together by the Turtles.

It was just such a lovely, sweet advert. I'd love to see it again but can find no trace of it online.

ImRightOnTopOfThatRose · 12/11/2022 13:35

Pot Noodle. This ad was banned immediately but I remember seeing it and nearly wetting myself laughing. Honestly, it's so funny.
