I love flamingo candles, bath and body works and scavenging in tkmaxx for nice ones...

Not interested in diptyque type brands, no desire to spend £100 on a candle - but equally I don't want something cheap and tacky that barely smells of anything

Seeing as I'm trying to be a bit more hygge and stop hating winter so much, I figured I'd treat myself to a few new ones as I've started to permanently have one burning at my desk while WFH which is quite enjoyable

Does anyone have any recommendations?

I really like my black cherry yankee candle that i bought recently... i bought the big one and it was about £30. Not £100 territory but not cheap either.... but the smell is lovely

I quite like M&S Apothecary ones, IKEA and the muji ones in tins. All extremely reasonably priced.

AuntieDolly · 09/11/2022 17:02

Sand & fog in tkmaxx are my faves - great range of smells and they look good

The lily flame tins smell lasts ages and they’re only cheap
also enjoy a wax Burner probably seen as very ‘low class’ for mumsnet but I get melts from a local woman who makes them and just use a bog standard tea light (like the 100 for £1.50 type bags) and again smell lasts absolutely ages

Redglitter · 09/11/2022 17:03

I only ever buy www.olapip.co.uk. Theyre amazing & it's a small business started just before lockdown

The range is fantastic & the smell lasts ages

Redglitter · 09/11/2022 17:04

Hopefully clicky link

Crackle wick in Home Bargains. £6.99

minticecreamisjustok · 09/11/2022 17:12

I like the woodwick ones, they do crackle though so depends it that would annoy you while working.

TheThirdKit · 09/11/2022 17:13

I love the lemongrass and rosemary candle from Valentte, they've got 50% off all candles at the moment, I'm buying loads for Christmas presents.

I also like valenette

ANiceBigCupOfTea · 09/11/2022 17:20

Woodwick are gorgeous - the tall ones are the best as they last ages.

Isle of Skye candles. Buy them regularly, both dds and dsis adore them.

Flamingmentalcats · 09/11/2022 17:22

Wilko berry candle in the red glass jar, £3 and smells gorgeous and burns quite evenly. Can also second Lilly Flame, particularly Fairy Dust and Parma Violets

Hoppinggreen · 09/11/2022 17:23

Valentte (Valente?) lovely fragrances and not expensive
They have a shop in Covent gdn but you can buy online

BobStrangeNameforaGirl · 09/11/2022 17:24

I like DW Home from tk maxx.

Roundaboot · 09/11/2022 17:25

Seven Seventeen candles are just gorgeous. Not the cheapest but they're worth what you pay, IMHO, as the scents are lovely, not at all artificial smelling and they last for ages.
And they're an ethical company too, donating 10% of profits to mental health charities

Whengoodtimesatthefairgobad · 09/11/2022 17:28

Prices Open Window candle is really nice and cheap, about £4

HairyMcLarie · 09/11/2022 17:29

Make your own! Very easy and you can choose your own scent blends.

A candle costs me around £5 to make and 15 minutes. It ready to burn in a week or two

BryceQuinlanTheFirst · 09/11/2022 17:29

If you want nice smells for cheaper I get wax melts from Lumos Apothecary which are gorgeous and very cheap.

xPeaceX · 09/11/2022 17:31

Torc

In lovely coloured glass jars when I bought them

xPeaceX · 09/11/2022 17:33

No scrap that, just looked, their prices have gone way up.

Max Benjamin are about 25 euro so 20£so cheaper than some well known English brands

glamourousindierockandroll · 09/11/2022 17:34

I find Sainsburys do quite nice ones and they're roughly TKMaxx prices.

Home bargains can be very good.

The Aldi ones are famously Jo Malone knock offs. I've enjoyed a few of those.

ReedOfFate · 09/11/2022 17:34

The White Company is quite good value in this respect - their standard candles are still £20 but you’ll easily get a discount of 10% if you look around (or possibly more on Black Friday. Lovely seasonal ones and they do last as you don’t have to burn them for long

trebarwith1 · 09/11/2022 17:38

st eval candles are gorgeous!
