Tell me your favourite candle brands that don't cost a bomb!

I love flamingo candles, bath and body works and scavenging in tkmaxx for nice ones...

Not interested in diptyque type brands, no desire to spend £100 on a candle - but equally I don't want something cheap and tacky that barely smells of anything

Seeing as I'm trying to be a bit more hygge and stop hating winter so much, I figured I'd treat myself to a few new ones as I've started to permanently have one burning at my desk while WFH which is quite enjoyable

Does anyone have any recommendations?

I went cheap and got the b &m wax melts, total waste of £1.50...

I love Coco & Ginger candles (on Facebook) they smell lovely and last for ages. Not bargain basement but not silly money either

ErinAndTonic · 09/11/2022 19:55

Wow I wasn't expecting so many replies, thanks everyone, this could get expensive as I feel like I want to try them all 😆

I do love the crackling ones so will definitely look at Woodwicks too.

I always stock up on bath and body works every time I visit the US.. Next only has a tiny part of the range and the prices are very inflated.

Thanks for reminding me re. Wax melts too, I have an electric burner and a bunch of melts somewhere.. I like the Asda ones too plus have a bunch of flamingo candle ones from when I used to have a subscription

Now I just need to remember to blow them out when I pop out for a walk as I keep getting a bollocking from my partner for forgetting..!

Another vote for St Eval Bay and Rosemary!

IKEA, specifically the vanilla ice cream one, and their Xmas specials.

BobbyBobbyBobby · 09/11/2022 21:33

The Aldi candles are rubbish. Smell ok in the shop and for about five minutes when lit but then fade to nothing.

These are lovely

Crackle wick in Home Bargains. £6.99

DH from TK Maxx £7-12 ish - absolutely love them, fantastic quality

WoolyMammoth55 · 09/11/2022 21:47

I buy these from my local health food shop - nothing synthetic, really strong and lovely scent: www.holisticshop.co.uk/products/candle-inspire

If you can find the pillar candle in the Orange, Clove and Cinnamon scent by the same Holistic Trader brand, that's my winter fave!

Hate the pongy synthetic smells, I think the natural essential oil blend candles smell a million times better :)

I only ever buy www.olapip.co.uk. Theyre amazing & it's a small business started just before lockdown

The range is fantastic & the smell lasts ages

I use these! They are really lovely and quite local to us. I love to support local business and it is fantastic when they turn out to produce wonderful goods!

You must live near me 😊

Haven't been to her studio shop yet. I usually use the collection box. Have you tried the A&W ones. I'm addicted. I think I've got them all

Yes, they are beautiful. I would only advise a trip to the shop if you are feeling flush. It is one of those shops it is hard not to go mad in!

Aldi 100%. We get the pomegranate which smells really strong and lasts weeks, always get compliments when we have visitors

Anapana · 09/11/2022 22:20

Peak District Candle co dark honey and tobacco is far superior to Diptyque Narguile and a third of the price, even cheaper if you buy the refill that fits in the Diptyque jar! It’s my absolute favourite

GuyFawkesDay · 09/11/2022 22:23

Sand and fog from TK maxx are superb smells and last well. Great value too.

StopsWalkingToSneeze · 09/11/2022 22:48

I’ve just bought this from Aldi for £9.99 the one I bought is vanilla. It’s massive and like woodwick.

I currently have an Aldi copy of Yankee on the go, it smells amazing. Spiced fruit, so autumnal and festive, I absolutely love it. I need to buy more.

If you want nice smells for cheaper I get wax melts from Lumos Apothecary which are gorgeous and very cheap.

Any recommendations?

BryceQuinlanTheFirst · 09/11/2022 23:17

@userxx

The Christmas tree has a gorgeous pine smell. Festive spice also lovely

All Hallows and duvet day are sweet

Tabacco and oak very nice

Depends what smells you like. The wax melts are very reasonable so you can try lots of scents!

For around Christmas I really like the M&S Mandarin, Clove and Cinnamon.
