Has anyone actually ever won in premium bond draw?

I only have a small amount in there but I eagerly await the draw each month but it never happens!

How do u get notified if u win - or do u have to check somewhere?
Do they send the winnings to bank account or is there some place where u have to claim it yourself?

Paddingtonthebear · 09/11/2022 16:17

I get a text and email

LoobyDop · 09/11/2022 16:31

They aren’t really a good investment. Slightly better than cash and you never know. But my IFA hates them, although tbf that’s probably because he doesn’t get any commission on them.

This is very bad luck.

Have you moved/not changed address/email etc? That is incredibly unusual not to win anything on that holding in 12 years 😔

Dougieowner · 09/11/2022 16:40

Do you mean small, medium, large or just any amount?

We win between £75-125 p/m with max holdings (all £25's)
OH won a £100 single win last month.
M&D won £500 in single win once.
No-one in family has won a larger single prize than that.

@YogaLite - you can check on the ns & I website under 'prize checker', you'll need your ns & I number or if you've registered your email with them, they'll email you - usually a few days after the 1st of the month.

You choose the option to either reinvest your winnings in bonds or have it paid direct into your account 😊

I’m completely wrong, not sure what graph I saw then.

I've got £50k in there, but don't get £1k interest a year, nothing like it.
I'm hanging on in case I get the big prize!

KnottyKnitting · 09/11/2022 18:10

We have a fair amount of savings in PBs ( the full amount allowed for both DH and me. ) We used to regularly get £100 and £50 each month but then things seemed to change and now DH and I seem to get a couple of £25 cheques every few months. In the 20 years or so we have had PBs we have never got more than £100 in one cheque.

Daleksatemyshed · 09/11/2022 18:11

Now interest rates are moving up PB aren't such a good investment but until recently savings accounts %s were so awful they weren't worth bothering. I've made about £250 a year but you need a good £25,000 to make it worthwhile

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 09/11/2022 18:13

No but PILs get at least on £25 cheque (they still like them the old fashioned way) a month. I assume they’ve got a lot in there though as they’re not short of money!

BeBraveLittlePenguin · 09/11/2022 18:19

I've had £300 for over 30 years and never won a thing.
My son has had £1,000 for 10 years and won £300 in total.

Livinginanotherworld · 09/11/2022 18:20

Most months but I have the full amount.

DelurkingAJ · 09/11/2022 18:22

I was given £5 when I was born. It came up for a £50 prize in less than a year! Odds must have been close to nil and I’ve never won since.

Mirren22 · 05/11/2024 23:11

Bump. I bought 100 in June and first time winning today of 200. Mega chuffed! Should I reinvest it?

RaininSummer · 06/11/2024 13:03

Yes if you don't need to spend it.

mrsjoyfulprizeforraffiawork · 06/11/2024 13:07

I was given a premium bond in 1957. I have not yet won anything.

thecatsthecats · 06/11/2024 13:14

I have. 10k.

I received a settlement from a previous employer after a case of harassment, and bunged it in there because I didn't know what else to do with it. One of those bonds won 10k, taking my total holdings up to an amount where I win more months than not. I topped up the rest.

It's paid me 6% so far this year.

dollybird · 06/11/2024 13:19

I've had £100 of bonds for nearly 30 years and have won £100 and £25. You never know, might win big before I die 😂

RelativePitch · 06/11/2024 13:19

My dad had £20k in premium bonds for donkeys years and would win on average £500 a year. He died last year and the account is allowed to stay live for a year after. He's won £2k this year despite being dead.
My DS had £100 in PBs when he was born. He's won 2 x £25 in 15 years.

LorettyTen · 06/11/2024 13:21

We win every month, we have the maximum invested. £450 this month

ChocWrapper · 06/11/2024 13:22

I win every month. They can be a very good option if you have a decent holding and have already maxed out your ISA and used any savings interest allowance.

Much less good if you have a smaller amount or have other ways to save tax free.

premierleague · 06/11/2024 13:23

You need at least £10k to win regularly

MissHalloween · 06/11/2024 13:25

I invested 5k 3 months ago, I had two months with no wins and was just about to give up
on my bonds but I won £100 yesterday. I get £20 per month interest on my 5k in Barclays so I’m interested to compare results after one year.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 06/11/2024 13:36

I had the maximum in (had inherited money and was buying a house, so just needed somewhere to keep it with easy access). I started out winning £25 per month, then maybe £100 for a couple of months, then the odd £25 again and for the last six months or so that I had the money in there I won nothing. As though I'd used up all my luck.
