Apologies that the prior thread filled up before I could create this one. Hopefully everyone will find it. Lurkers are of course welcome to unlurk.

Most importantly Prok what kind of cake?

I’ve had a busy but productive half term week so far, one last push through a super busy last 3 days and then back to work on Monday. The playroom redecorating project needs a push as it’s losing impetus (and the furniture is everywhere else in the house)

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 16/02/2023 21:30

Helena An apple-cinnamon-walnut cake

My job used to be building the furniture in our house - I am sending assembly-vibes in your direction.

mathanxiety · 16/02/2023 21:40

I've just added baking an apple cinnamon walnut cake to my list of things to do this weekend. We're having dreary, sleety weather at the moment and I think the scent of apples and cinnamon wafting around the apartment would be a tonic.

I had an unexpected morning off today and caught up on some kitchen decluttering, rearranging, and cleaning of awkward spots. I will send DS out with the bin and recycling later.

MissConductUS · 16/02/2023 22:07

Really warm here today, about 17C. I'm a bit overwhelmed taking over projects that my recently departed colleague was working on.

Despite the oddly warm weather, our propane company came by today to top off our tank. The cats think spring is here.

DS has been going into the city for training instead of working from home. He still wants DH to take him and pick him up to save the $4 parking fee. I see that I have raised a proper thrifty New Englander.

That cake sounds delicious @Prokupatuscrakedatus - perfect for this time of year..

Had a check up at the dentist today ( me and DS) and thankfully we both just needed a cleaning..

HelenaJustina · 17/02/2023 15:33

I don’t actually have to do any assembling Prok which is annoying as that is my job too, we’ve just moved all the furniture out of the room to decorate, and it’s in three other rooms making them look untidy I’ve done more painting today and taken a car load to the tip. But DC starting to complain of boredom now…

cassiatwenty · 17/02/2023 15:51

A bit off here today. Mum is knitting, waiting for her partner, I am next to her. Just had a bit of tea and marzipan. It's nice here, and I just read a book by Riggs Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiat Children.

Dunno why I feel a bit off today, sorry for inconsistency all :/

Silkierabbit · 17/02/2023 16:41

Hope you feel better soon Cassia

Hope redecoration goes well Helena

Thanks so much Half and hope you are better now.

Thanks Math and Prok Glad chemo went well Prok and cake sounds lovely.

I love pancake day too Death

Hope you enjoy Florida MissC Not jealous at all!

Been a bit busy producing a long legal document but got it off yesterday, its me against an expensive barrister so don't rate my chances.

DD is back from her trip to Paris and enjoyed it. DH bought me Valentine's Day chocolates and we went to see DS on Valentine's Day - found a therapy elephant down the toilet, chocolate thrown and rubbish around his bed so we didn't stay long. Our Valentine's meal turned out to be KFC in a retail park, who says romance is dead. 😂Just off to Holiday Inn again to see DS again x 2 and go swimming. Maudsley have sent him an apple watch for 2 days to try, I have warned them its likely to be either thrown or put down toilet, he's so agitated since being on lorazepam. Staff are struggling as every night he's out kicking all the doors all night, throwing half his meals, hitting staff. Goes beserk if sent to social area. He's normally the most gentle creature. Trouble is its a cycle where they increase meds and that increases behaviour. Will go swimming as well and maybe a boat trip tomorrow if we get timings to work.

HelenaJustina · 17/02/2023 19:33

Finished the feature wall and not killed any DC, I’m at demand full up ness point in the half term.

Furniture can go back in tomorrow, between football matches and swim meets.

Silkierabbit · 17/02/2023 22:13

Well done Helena

Just saw DS was quite giggly and settled with us then went swimming now in hotel room.

halfpasteleven · 17/02/2023 23:00

Lovely to hear your DS was so giggly @Silkierabbit..

Sending you strength- hope you enjoy your hotel stay

I'm not a serious folk music lover, but I like all sorts of things and happy music is great. I went to a folk concert tonight in a village hall. A friend suggested it and arranged tickets a few days ago so it felt almost spontaneous. We had chips and then enjoyed the live music. Everyone was full of conviviality and the atmosphere was friendly. The harmonies gave me goose bumps.
It was a fun evening.

MissConductUS · 18/02/2023 01:29

Welcome, @SoCunningYouCanStickATailOnItAndCallItAFox, and thanks for sharing your folk concert news. That sounds like a fabulous night out. There's a strong tradition of folk music in New England as well.

Silkie, I'm sorry your DS is still struggling so much, but glad he had some giggles left in him.

We're back to winter weather tonight. I'm flying to Orlando on Thursday, and the forecast looks good.

Thanks Half and Miss. DS giggles a lot at Floof stories. DH says we need Floof to do something silly every day for a story for DS 😻Tonight he liked that Floof can fly 3 metres through the air when food is mentioned and bangs all the cupboards for tuna. He also liked that Floof was poking dh for tuna with one front paw with claw out then dh said no Floof that hurts. Floof looked puzzled then got his other front paw with claw out and poked dh with that. I said Floof does not have many brain cells. He was laughing so much at that he nearly fell to the floor. DD has messaged that Floof and rabbit are chasing each other around the dining room.

mathanxiety · 18/02/2023 05:20

Glad to hear DS still feels connected to Floof, Silkies.

Dcat is also a cupboard door banger. I have glasscloths draped over all the kitchen cupboard doors to muffle the banging.

The sleet from earlier on Thursday turned into snow overnight and it took ages to scrape the ice off my windshield this morning. It will all melt on Saturday. Getting tired of winter now even though we haven't had much really frigid weather.

IWanderedLonely · 18/02/2023 09:23

Socunning I love your name. Many a Blackadder phrase gets used in our house.
I have just discovered that you can make spaghetti bol in a slow cooker - amazed!

SoCunningYouCanStickATailOnItAndCallItAFox · 18/02/2023 11:57

@IWanderedLonely 😁😁😁
And I live in Wordsworth country so love your user name. 🙌

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 18/02/2023 13:21

The workmate I mentioned, came, we had a lovely few hours (she brought cake as well).
She also decluttered her warderobe and brought clothes for DD to try. DD found three jeans, some summer tops and a dress that exactly fit her. She has an unfashionable and difficult figure, so she was over the moon.

HildaTablet · 18/02/2023 14:45

It warms my heart to hear about DS giggling, Silkie.

I’m having a fun afternoon. Just went to the tip with some bags of garden waste and an old mattress topper (unusable for any other purpose). Put petrol in the car. Bought something for tomorrow’s dinner. Now home and about to move things from one room to another in preparation for (we hope) some renovations so that our ongoing works will creep a little closer to completion. The builder who didn’t turn up a few weeks ago did finally materialise, hurrah.

Prok, the words ‘unfashionable and difficult figure’ made me laugh in complete and rueful sympathy…!

Silkierabbit · 18/02/2023 14:49

Ds has come with us for first home visit😻

Deathraystare · 18/02/2023 14:51

@SoCunningYouCanStickATailOnItAndCallItAFox

Like you I don't like folk music but have heard some lovely songs. I also say I hate Country music BUT Johnny Cash and Dolly Parton are a cut above. There was another guy, sort of alternative country music but he has a number of aliases so I forget his names! He sounded like Nick Cave.

Deathraystare · 18/02/2023 15:00

Antic Clay ! That was the name though his real name is Michael. The name comes from a line in( I think) The Road.

I learn a new thing everyday!!

Lemonsandlemonade · 18/02/2023 15:10

OMG Silkie 🥳🤩 that’s amazing.
