I've started a new one. Please join us and share the boring and mundane things happening in your world. It will be calming for all.

Here is the link to the prior thread:

Apologies that the prior thread filled up before I could create this one. Hopefully everyone will find it. Lurkers are of course welcome to unlurk.

Oh... DD sent me a photo of the spider she and her roommate found in their dorm room. It was enormous. I suggested they just burn the building to the ground...

Silkierabbit · 12/12/2022 20:40

Thanks Hilda Pretty scenery and nice to have some snow too ZZ

I went swimming and in jacuzzi then hotel breakfast then meeting. A bit of an annoying meeting as its holding everything up but done at least.

Then we saw DS and he was so sad when he found out the doctors said he must stay for longer and when I mentioned his birthday he started banging distressed. He had also covered the window, the vents and the mirror with papers, the window apparently is as staff were opening it a lot. Vents maybe thought cctv as on ceiling. They said they had no idea how he got up and he must be spiderman. Mirror was a bit odd and now they are back on he may have psychosis again. But at least at meeting today the hospital seem to want him out and say they don't want to wait and see if he has psychosis, they would prefer to send him home, see there and have him back if needed. The lady who came to see us on Wed announced she has tested positive for covid, really hope we don't get that. They are supposedly making a decision on 23/12 re DS where he goes next but seems to be veering towards home, just hope it is 23/12 and not pushed back. Also they normally release gradually and we are due in France over New Year.

MissConductUS · 13/12/2022 01:18

ZZ, we have more snow coming Thursday evening into Friday, so you may get some too. The spiders in Massachusetts are indeed legendary, but burning the building down would result in a huge dorm damage charge on your next bill.

Hilda it looked similar here this morning.

Silkie, I hope you get a positive decision on the 23rd.

I had a bit of gum surgery this afternoon. It was originally scheduled for Wednesday, but they had a cancelation this afternoon, and I had nothing pressing happening, so I took it. It wasn't good.

Silkies I hope and pray they will just send him home and leave you all in peace. The way this might end is even more mind boggling than the way it all started, with everyone just washing their hands of DS and shrugging. Or am I reading your post right?

We have yet to decorate the tree. I'll have time to get it done during daylight hours tomorrow, with help from DD3 and maybe DD4 too. She has recovered from the worst effects of her fourth covid shot plus flu shot on Sunday afternoon. Her appointment lasted obmver an hour, and while I stood in line with her DS phoned to say his car had been broken into in an attempted theft and he was with a police officer who was dusting it for prints.

He managed to close up the broken window with bin bags and duct tape, and got it towed this morning. After he had left it with a repair shop I picked him up and we went to a diner for some sadness pancakes and scrambled eggs for him and a BLT for me. He's rented a car for the rest of the week, partly paid for by his insurance. He'll be able to get to his rotation an hour and a half away and his supervising senior resident was very understanding about not being able to get there today.

ZZ I'm sure dorms have been burned down for less serious reasons.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 13/12/2022 08:57

Picture of plant covered in Raureif no idea what this is called in English and my tablet decided I am not allowed to google.

RhubarbFairy · 13/12/2022 10:44

Hope you're feeling better today after your surgery Miss.

Silkie I'm sorry to hear that this is all still going on, and I hope that it is finally close to being resolved. Will they release DS on the 23rd immediately if that's the outcome of that meeting?

Loving everyone's frost and snow photos. We've had it too.

I'm ill and laid up in bed. No idea if it's Covid (I fit most of the symptoms) or a general flu-like thing as we don't have any tests left at home. Either way I feel utterly rotten and have done since Friday. It means I'm missing the last week of term at work, which is a twofold shame. One because there's lots of fun and festivities happening, and two, I was told last week that I'm being moved from my current class to another one as their need for me is greater. I'll be just fine in my new class, but I'm so sorry to be leaving my amazing team, so I'm gutted to be missing this last week with them.

My Google translate gives your word as 'hoarfrost', Prok, which I’d agree with.

Rhubarb, sorry to hear you feel so rubbish. Lovely photo though.

Silkie - if after all this they just let DS come home, you and he will of course be overjoyed, but you will be completely justified in being so very angry at the utter incompetence and casual cruelty of their inexcusable blundering.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 13/12/2022 12:03

Hilda Thank you I'll ad this word to my vocabulary.

Lovely pics Hilda and thanks for your kind message. Also snowy here and nice to see. Someone made a snowman at the end of our street.

Hope you feel better soon Rhubarb I have no idea if it gets signed off on 23rd for home when we could get him home but I had a team call today who said they are keyworkers so we don't have to tell your story over and over then oh what is your story 😂and they apparently can liase re discharge. Hospital seem to want him out and are saying its 50-50 if he's in psychosis but they won't be able to tell by keeping him longer so they want to discharge and further assessment in home or asd base. The people today said what is this asd base they talk of and then they said it does not exist for children. But sometimes they talk if 24/7 monitoring, if they need that presume will delay it. I have no idea what they are monitoring 24/7, he is just ipadding all day in there, it would be like diary of a sloth and they have 2.5 months of daily records and counting. Every day is pretty much the same.

Thanks for your kind message Math So sorry to hear about your DSs car. I am not totally sure atm what discharge would look like but he's in a very similar state to at home pre admission but better than after their handcuffing and holding him down by 4 security guards. We are being expected to solve everything when the hospital can't but the community team will work with us for 3 months and it may even be there is someone here 24/7 but I hope not. I was talking through discharge with team today and they said they often do phased but for kids like him who hate transition they can do 2 week trial at home and if OK he stays home, if not readmit and that sounds better of those two.

Thanks MissC hope you feel ok after surgery and lovely picture.

Lovely picture Prok, never heard of that type of frost.

Floof is copying the hoover. We have mince pies here and just had a Chinese. Feeling slightly ill, the lady who came to interview us last week has covid and hoping its not that. Feels too mild atm.

halfpasteleven · 13/12/2022 22:46

Sounds to me like your DS would be happier at home and that he does not need monitoring 24/7.

Surely one of these "experts" will see that in time for the 23rd.

I've been sick all week -like you @RhubarbFairy but it's not Covid as I did a test. I too am missing the final week of term and feel wracked with guilt but I could not go in feeling like this and I know my colleagues wouldn't thank me for it if I did.
Hope you feel better soon.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 14/12/2022 07:35

Woke up to -8 C with wind so it feels like -12.
I am moving workplaces around.

MissConductUS · 14/12/2022 14:12

Best wishes to all who are poorly with viruses. I thought I would catch something on my trip to Philadelphia, but I seem to have emerged unscathed. The area where they did the gum surgery and a bone graft is still sore, but it's tolerable with some ibuprofen.

DS went into the office yesterday for a holiday party and wound up going out to dinner with people and getting home around 11:00 PM. I was asleep at that point, so I have yet to get a report on his night out. I'm glad he's had a chance to socialize with people from work.

My dear brother and lovely SIL have offered to host us for Christmas, as they usually do, so I discussed with DH what we would bring. They insisted that I make the holiday mashed potatoes. 😀

Floof is now curled up in bed with me quite content. At 1.30am he was disgruntled that noone was getting him his first tuna and this little face appeared.

We had the electrician do the eicr check today we need every 5 years for insurance and he said Floof was a very nosy cat, I did not know a non nosy cat existed. 😂

Snowy day here, we are continuing to talk re DS release and had an email from hospital discussing t and Cs and talked of release to home but said it may not be December. It said a care package has to be agreed, there is a date of 23 Dec for report on that and ds needs to be walking out of hospital. They said they will increase his meds.

Hope everyone is feeling better now.

That little face 😍
I keep my bedroom door closed at night because Dcat likes leaping around following car shadows on the walls, and also because breakfast would be moved to the wee small hours if I let her in.

I got the decoration finished this evening, including the mantelpiece Nativity and clearing off the sideboard to make room for the Santa figure Dcat likes to push to the floor.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 15/12/2022 06:36

Fluff looks quite stern. He probably thinks he needs to train you better.

I am off to chemo at 9.
Temp in kitchen 8 c, temp in giant living hall 10 (a total construction failure, but the two young guys who planned it for themselves liked it but never lived here)

Silkierabbit · 15/12/2022 06:55

Well done on finishing the decoration math. I have just been woken by a Floof who came to lie by my side and put his paw on me for a cuddle and his tuna breakfast at around 6.30am.

Hope the chemo goes as well as it can Prok

One of the silkies the white one has a few bald patches and we saw yesterday the older silkie attacking her when she went to get found were the patch was. I think its to do with pecking order. But now need to try and find a solution to silkie bullying. Its avian flu season and rules here so they are not allowed out. We are going to try 3 different food bowls to start with.

Lovely picture, Prok. I hope the treatment goes smoothly.

It hasn’t snowed again here but it’s still very cold indeed and most of the snow is still lying where we are (fringes of countryside). It’s beautifully sunny this morning, but bitter. The sun sparkling off the snow-covered roofs looks like something out of a fairytale.

I’ve had a ridiculously stressful start to the day thanks to a colleague whose last-minute style is the exact opposite to mine - I’m firmly in the get-ahead camp. Unfortunately I didn’t have a choice in this instance, so I had to spend 1.5 hrs last night (after I’d gone to bed), and 2 hours early this morning, getting something ready for an unavoidable deadline today. I’ve been flagging up this deadline since November and waiting for said colleague to sort their part out, which had to be done first before my bit, so I’m not best pleased.

Lemonsandlemonade · 16/12/2022 19:40

Such wonderful pictures.

It’s very very cold here.

Been catching up on the thread. Hope Your Chemo went as ok as it could Prok.

Silkie I hope things continue to move towards getting your DS home.

Had party for children in work today. 20 2/3 year olds. Was glad when we went home.

Have DS’s nursery party tomorrow have been chopping fruit to take with us.

mathanxiety · 16/12/2022 20:08

Hoping your chemo is going OK, Prok.
Berlin looks chilly!

I spent yesterday evening helping DD3 get a postgrad application together. So many word-limited little essays and statements of purpose, so much proofreading - oy vey...

It's now freezing and windy, and snowing sideways, which is the way winter weather should be around the Great Lakes.

IWanderedLonely · 16/12/2022 22:40

Just caught up with the thread, what a busy week! We bought our Christmas tree today, it's set up but needs to settle, it's still very "squashed".
Hope all of you who are ill are soon feeling better. I was only thinking this morning that if I get any bugs now then Christmas Day won't happen in our house, I've still got so much to do.

HelenaJustina · 17/12/2022 07:42

Had our work Christmas party last night, but as I was driving home through -8 and freezing fog, I only drank water so feeling virtuous this morning. One and half more days until we break for the festive season…

HelenaJustina · 17/12/2022 07:58

Back at Saturday morning swim training with DC2. Compared to the -11 we’ve had for 3 mornings this week, it’s a balmy -3 for my run.

I know it’s late but I must make my Christmas cake today.

IWanderedLonely · 17/12/2022 09:23

Helena I miss making Christmas cake. There's only my mum and me who like it & I seem to be on a permanent diet these days so I just buy a small oblong bar. Not the same Sad
