...and tell me where you got it from!

DP and I have decided to get married early next year, which means we need to sort out an engagement ring fairly soon - I know we don't "need" to, but I have never had any nice jewellery and would like a nice shiny ring!

I think I'd like either a diamond or Sapphire ring, open to second hand/vintage. Not keen on a solitaire but clueless apart from that!

We have had a look in a couple of local high street shops and didn't find anything. Thinking of having a weekend away somewhere to look at rings: Birmimgham for the Jewellery Quarter, or London for Hatton Garden? Or somewhere else?!

If anyone has any good suggestions of where to go, let me know, and let us have a nose at your engagement rings and wedding bands : ).

I thought it was far too big for my hand / fingers when I first saw it at the proposal but j love it so much now. It’s just from local high street jewellers apparently he went in and said no real budget just want something really nice. They saw him coming but I am so happy with it. Wedding band from same jewellers and was only about £150. I had to get the ring insured and it was a lot more.

Mine is from Pravins it's a round brilliant 0.50 I believe. Husband chose it by himself and my wedding band is diamond and sapphire. We'd like to add an eternity band as well at some point.

Saw this on another thread and it's my perfect ring. Absolutely stunning.

Thank you! I love these threads and I remember finding a really long one when I was thinking about what I wanted and I found it so helpful.

@HashBrownandBeans My husband I love all things vintage and do re-enactment events so it was the perfect ring for us :) I love Art Deco style so much (and nouveau too!). The fact that my MIL found it just felt like destiny though I do often wonder about the person who lost it.

Yours is beautiful :) I love the uniqueness of antique jewellery and the history they carry.

My wedding dress was from the 50s and my husband's suit was from the 20s. We made a special trip to Stockholm to buy it :)

We spent weeks in Hatton garden, Brighton Lane and other vintage places. After much trekking, I realised I didn’t actually want a diamond. My band is perfect, made bespoke and inlaid on the inside with rubies sourced where we became engaged. My secret. I wear occasionally an inherited diamond eternity ring alongside it.

That's so cool! Love that it's got secret rubies.
I just wear my band 99% of the time but no rubies :p

So many beautiful rings, thank you for sharing! Excited to go shopping in a couple of weeks, been browsing some of the Jewellery quarter shops online and seen a few potential second hand rings 😊.

Love this thread. My engagement ring is from the 20's, belonged to DH's great aunt. Diamond and pearl. Diamond eternity for my 60th.

Hi, Don't rule out buying online. You save money on petrol and you can see shops from all over the country without leaving your home. The first thing you should sort out is the ring size needed for the finger you want to buy for -- this goes for all types of rings, not just engagement rings. Check out this guide on how to measure your ring size (cjwuk.shop/pages/ring-sizes-1).

Ring Sizes

Each country has developed a different standard for expressing ring sizes. The EU has a standard but there are also national standards for each EU member state in operation simultaneously. Canada and the USA use the same standard. In this review, we wi...
