DP and I have decided to get married early next year, which means we need to sort out an engagement ring fairly soon - I know we don't "need" to, but I have never had any nice jewellery and would like a nice shiny ring!

I think I'd like either a diamond or Sapphire ring, open to second hand/vintage. Not keen on a solitaire but clueless apart from that!

We have had a look in a couple of local high street shops and didn't find anything. Thinking of having a weekend away somewhere to look at rings: Birmimgham for the Jewellery Quarter, or London for Hatton Garden? Or somewhere else?!

If anyone has any good suggestions of where to go, let me know, and let us have a nose at your engagement rings and wedding bands : ).

We had a lovely day out at the Birmingham Jewellery Quarter and paid less than half my local jewellers (SE) wanted for a similar style ring with lower quality diamond. It is one of my favourite memories- drove to Birmingham, had a nice brunch, designed the ring together and he picked it up a few weeks later in time for Xmas.

it’s a 0.8 pear diamond with a halo that makes it up to 1ct. Decided to keep the bands plain as I wanted traditional but also for the pear shape to stand out.

Engagement ring was from the jewellery Quarter in Birmingham. I wanted something a little different for my wedding band so I ordered it from etsy. Its hand made in Israel, rose gold with alternating diamond and lab opals x

Love the idea of having a nice day out and picking out our wedding rings at the same time. I thought it would be more expensive than a high street shop, but Googling it tonight it seems that you get better value for money at the jewellery quarter.

Mines a bit different, we got married while in holiday in Las Vegas, I wanted a band and a stoned ring!
This was on one of the jewellers on the strip, and bought about 4 hours before we got married

We used Mitchel & Co.

A couple of the shops were a bit more commercialised- they had the bands there, you chose the diamond stood at the desk with queues of people behind you, they pop it in the band and away we go. It wasn’t quite the romantic experience we were looking for but we turned the corner, wandered into Mitchel & Co, who ushered us to a private desk in their quiet store, offerer us fancy coffees or champagne and walked us through the design from scratch. And it came in about half of what we planned to spend, AND they service it every year for my lifetime for free- can’t recommend them enough!

I LOVE the opal wedding band also!

Here’s mine - it’s old diamonds in an Art Deco setting but the jeweller reset it as the original was broken.

I can recommend purely diamonds - they are just around the corner from Hatton gardens, I have something similar to this.

Definitely go to either Hatton garden or Birmingham jewellery quarter. I got my engagement ring in Hatton Garden and we got our wedding bands there too. Very competitive prices and a great array of choice and customisation which we just found you couldn't get from a high street jeweller. We found generally you got much more for your money in Hatton Garden.

It's vintage, from Adamas in Birmingham Jewellery quarter. I loved it for around a year before we got officially engaged and was lucky it was still waiting for an owner. It's so sparkly in person. I love it so much.

It's an emerald with 16 diamonds on the shoulders

Forgot to say, if you are specifically looking for antique/second hand. Adamas only sell those so they have an amazing collection. Check their Instagram, their website is great too

Consensus was it is and I did get a jeweller to have a quick look and he confirmed it. You've just reminded me to look into getting it cleaned and serviced

I hope you find the one! I’m still holding on to hope I’ll find my old one too one day, even though it was much cheaper and the claws were a nightmare it holds a lot of sentimental value.

If you can make it to London/Hatton Garden, I highly recommend A R Ullmann. The shop is a literal treasure trove of antique jewellery! My engagement ring came from there and we had my wedding band made to match by Coo jewellers.

I went to jewelry quarter in Birmingham 18 years ago. I saw a ring I liked in first shop on corner but it was half a carat and I wanted a carat one. We spent half a day looking in every shop on both sides of road. Then went back to first shop. I got a 1 carat solitaire in a triangle shape. I chose design then they bought me the stone and made it for me. We collected it 2 weeks later.

This is eternity ring.

Mine is from Point no Point. Cannot recommend them enough. I won't post a pic because it's very unusual and outing. My wedding band was shaped and cast in the Jewellery Quarter, the jewellers is called Newey's.
