DP and I have decided to get married early next year, which means we need to sort out an engagement ring fairly soon - I know we don't "need" to, but I have never had any nice jewellery and would like a nice shiny ring!

I think I'd like either a diamond or Sapphire ring, open to second hand/vintage. Not keen on a solitaire but clueless apart from that!

We have had a look in a couple of local high street shops and didn't find anything. Thinking of having a weekend away somewhere to look at rings: Birmimgham for the Jewellery Quarter, or London for Hatton Garden? Or somewhere else?!

If anyone has any good suggestions of where to go, let me know, and let us have a nose at your engagement rings and wedding bands : ).

I have a vintage style sapphire ring from MacGowans in Glasgow’s Argyll Arcade. Loads of jewellers there so it’s great to spend a day window shopping to get an idea of what you like

This 'was' mine before my eyes opened and realised I deserved better than a cheating, gaslighting, narcissist who never actually wanted to marry me, it was all a big game to him. Anyway, got a ring, ended the relationship and sold the ring. Did love it though, just couldn't bare what it was associated with. Abuse and hurt.

Mine was a surprise, no idea he was planning to propose and he picked the ring himself.. I'm actually quite proud of him cause I love it so much, I'm indecisive af so chances are if it was left to me to choose I'd never make up my mind 😅

Engagement ring from Warren James, I chose it before we got it engaged. Told dh that was what I wanted, was £360 and because we were on a tight budget for all things wedding my wedding ring was from argos, I made sure it kinda matched

I have two sets: original on wedding finger was made for me by Joy Everley. The wedding band uses stones from my Gran's engagement ring and the solitaire is a diamond I bought second hand from eBay and had re set.

The second set are my commitment rings - we prefer to celebrate the month we met rather than our wedding day. They are platinum diamond vintage rings, bought separately secondhand from eBay.

I hardly buy anything new and I have never been able to afford jewellery shop rings anyway.

I love them all - the platinum daisy ring has huge significance to me. I have had three babies and three miscarriages and they are all together on that ring.

Thank you for sharing all of your beautiful rings, we've booked a hotel in Birmingham in a couple of weeks to go ring shopping. I ended up browsing the Adamas website last night and saw loads of lovely vintage ones 😍

Got it in Antwerp . Sapphire surrounded by diamonds. Will go back for an eternity style wedding band to fit.

We spent weeks in Hatton garden, Brighton Lane and other vintage places. After much trekking, I realised I didn’t actually want a diamond. My band is perfect, made bespoke and inlaid on the inside with rubies sourced where we became engaged. My secret. I wear occasionally an inherited diamond eternity ring alongside it.

Mine is from Ingle & Rhodes just off Oxford st. It’s sapphire and diamond and they focus on higher ethical standards. I love it!

I tend to wear mine on a chain these days.

Mine is a Tiffany emerald soleste with matching diamond band. Love it.

Someone mentioned AJ Ullman upthread which is where this second hand ruby ring came from which was a fortieth present, I love it. I also bought this goldsmiths aquamarine one for myself off eBay for a couple of hundred pounds, would prob have this as an engagement ring but nobody has ever asked me!
