Posh hotels in the UK (dreaming)

My lovely DH has a landmark birthday next year and I've been idly dreaming of somewhere posh I could whisk him away for a couple of nights.

Obviohave no idea if I'll be able to afford anything by the time it rolls around, but it's nice to daydream regardless! So if anyone has stayed anywhere fancy and rated it, and especially places which do fab food, I'd be really grateful to hear them 😊

One from me to start, we have stayed at The Gilpin in the Lakes many years ago - that was amazing! Food, room, service, the whole shebang!!

I like the Pig hotels. Not outrageously expensive either.

In London, I really like the langham, especially the palm court brasserie for dinner.

Claridge's is the best. (It's not "posh", but it is smart & also, somehow, homely. Immaculate service).

FlipperSkipper · 05/11/2022 11:42

Northcote

Le Manoir

TheDogsMother · 05/11/2022 11:42

Came on to say Limewood too.

Kfjsjdbd · 05/11/2022 11:43

Limewood is my favourite hotel

Penmaenuchaf near the stunning Mawddach estuary is beautiful-gorgeous gardens and wonderfully relaxing. Like staying in someone’s country house. So no spa, or amazing facilities but lovely food, drink and you get well looked after. Very reasonable compared to the very well known hotels. And area similar to Lakes but not as busy.

ReedOfFate · 05/11/2022 11:45

Cliveden

PearlclutchersInc · 05/11/2022 11:45

Cromlix in Perthshire for that tweedy country vibe especially in the autumn/winter.

whoisbruno · 05/11/2022 11:46

Chewton Glen is lovely.

It's interesting a few people mention the Pig hotels - I know of the one near Brockenhurst but think they have others now? Some good ideas here, thanks!!

We stayed in the Astor suite for our first anniversary, the hotel gave us champagne and a card. The indoor pool was heaven. The food was fabulous.

Emmalou0607 · 05/11/2022 16:53

Chewton glen, I stayed in one of the treehouses a few days for my 30th and it was incredible. Not cheep but worth every penny in my opinion.

Beezknees · 05/11/2022 16:57

I stayed at the Shangri-la at the Shard last year. Lovely views.

cathyandclare · 05/11/2022 16:58

Claridge's, Le Manoir and we also liked Seaham Hall and The Royal Crescent in Bath ( that was many years ago though.)

I consider the biggest extravangance of our wedding to have been the hotel I spend the night before at (paid myself) and DH and I spent our wedding night at (my mum paid for that night) - Barnsley House in Gloucestershire www.barnsleyhouse.com/

You can tell it's super upper crust because as DH and I ate breakfast the morning and the ladies next to us were talking about the benefits of private jets.

Stunning gardens and amazing breakfast - great service, as you'd expect at the price. We want to book it again on a special anniversary; I looked about 6 months before our 10th but it was already booked up. Maybe in another 5 years for our 20th!

SeasonFinale · 05/11/2022 17:10

Le Manoir hands down
