Posh hotels in the UK (dreaming)

My lovely DH has a landmark birthday next year and I've been idly dreaming of somewhere posh I could whisk him away for a couple of nights.

Obviohave no idea if I'll be able to afford anything by the time it rolls around, but it's nice to daydream regardless! So if anyone has stayed anywhere fancy and rated it, and especially places which do fab food, I'd be really grateful to hear them 😊

One from me to start, we have stayed at The Gilpin in the Lakes many years ago - that was amazing! Food, room, service, the whole shebang!!

Le Manoir
Claridges
The Savoy
Waterside Inn

All absolutely amazing.

That said, if you’re thinking of going to London, you could consider staying somewhere not quite so pricey, but still really nice, and you’ll have more of a budget for drinks and dinner. So maybe stay at One Aldwych, The Mayfair or The Athenaeum Hotel, and have cocktails at The American Bar and dinner at The Savoy Grill (both in The Savoy) or dinner at The Ivy?

I love Rick Steins in Padstow.
Gorgeous food, lovely rooms, still has an air of coziness

That’s sad to hear. What has changed?

Huffle · 05/11/2022 20:11

Grantley Hall, North Yorkshire

FlipperSkipper · 05/11/2022 20:14

Another one, Ynysir Hall in wales. Not as grand as some mentioned but a lovely feel to the place and amazing restaurant.

Kitesk · 05/11/2022 20:15

It's not really posh but I'm voting Moxy it's spotless, new and cosy. Dog friendly too!

Yellowdahlia12 · 05/11/2022 20:22

Another vote for Rudding Park.
Dean Court in York is pretty good too.

Burgh island

Yes! 😍

One Aldwych not pricey?

It’s our favourite hotel, but it’s a fortune. How the hell much does it cost to stay at Le Manoir?!

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 05/11/2022 21:16

Le Manoir

Mommabear20 · 05/11/2022 21:20

The Coniston Hotel

Lozzybear · 05/11/2022 21:25

Has no one mentioned Coworth Park?! DH took me there for a special birthday and it’s the only hotel that I’ve been to with his and hers baths!

Shangri la at the Shard and the Berkeley in London are also great. Want to try the Peninsula when it opens.

The Samling, Lake District. Amazing rooms, really relaxed atmosphere, very discreet.

Throughabushbackwards · 05/11/2022 21:35

It's not super posh or even that expensive, but Stratton's Hotel in Norfolk is pretty special. Particularly the Red Room which is enormous with an open fireplace and a private courtyard. The food is exceptional.

Chrisinthemorning · 05/11/2022 21:38

Swinton Estate near Masham

gogohmm · 05/11/2022 21:38

PrancingPalomino · 05/11/2022 21:41

Another vote for Rudding Park. Beautiful place and the bed was amazing!

Readinginthesun · 05/11/2022 21:41

The Balmoral in Edinburgh
Gleneagles ( surprised at people suggesting it’s not posh?)
Cromlix

In London, I really like the langham, especially the palm court brasserie for dinner.

As a treat, my partner and I stayed at the Langham a few Saturdays ago. (We ate at Quo Vadis.) We live in the Square Mile, so it felt very decadent to stay in a hotel in the West End!

TheOtherBoleynGirls · 05/11/2022 22:10

Just go for a blow out and try and book l’Enclume because it’s the best meal you’ll ever eat, and the rooms and village are gorgeous.

One Aldwych not pricey?

It’s our favourite hotel, but it’s a fortune. How the hell much does it cost to stay at Le Manoir?!

Depends on the size of the room you book? One night at Le Manoir with a basic double room, dinner, and breakfast is at least £1600 minimum. One Aldwych have rooms that are around £700+, and you can eat wherever you want in London, so it will be a lot cheaper.

FeralWitch · 05/11/2022 22:12

Oof.

£1700?

It’s another world.
