The Italian Job
Ghostbusters
Tequila Sunrise

These were in the days I still went to the cinema. Years ago. I didn't get the appeal of any of the foregoing. Is it just me ?

I agree with Love Actually - I don't mind an easy/comfy/feel-good cheesy film, especially at Christmas, but I just think it's so bad, and massively overrated. The Keira Knightly bit makes me want to commit murder.

Also agree with The Greatest Showman - fur coat no knickers.

Forrest Gump is awful too.

SimonandGarfunkel · 04/11/2022 15:24

LaLa Land - couldn't even be bothered to watch until the end.

Phantom Thread - was so looking forward to this and my god it was weird and boring.

Elf - just no. Can't hold a candle to Muppet Christmas Carol.

Manchester by the Sea
Three Billboards etc.
1917
Get Out

I am definitely different from most people who seem to really rate these films and I just didn't get the hype at all.

I loved Manchester by the Sea and 3 Billboards 😀

I agree about the Shawshank Redemption. I felt obliged to sit all the way through it a few years ago but it went on way too long and the escape was predictable from the start. Never again.

It's just daft and soppy and now I know Morgan Freeman is a perve I hate it even more!

cassiatwenty · 04/11/2022 15:25

Parasite (2019), I just didn't enjoy any of the characters or found them sympathetic

Twinstudy · 04/11/2022 15:32

The Greatest Showman, I thought it was rubbish and it's the kind of thing I'd normally enjoy!

If I'd been at home I think I'd have turned it off after half an hour but it wasn't that bad that I'd walk out of the cinema. But so many people seem to love it, makes me wonder if I went to see the wrong film 😁

@SimonandGarfunkel Ryan Gosling had such bad energy in that film 🎱

SpookyWookyBoo · 04/11/2022 15:38

American Hustle.
It should have been amazing with that cast.
But it was so boring and one dimensional.
Apart from Amy Adams and Jennifer Lawrence they saved that film.

cassiatwenty · 04/11/2022 15:40

@Grumpyoldpersonwithcats omg they just kept going on and on and on "this nordic plane will shift into quantum energy film reversing thru time loop created 3 fields in oslo"

Funkyslippers · 04/11/2022 15:41

Yes Love Actually - nearly all of the storylines are so amateur and unfunny and just plain irritating - particularly Keira Knightley, Martin Freeman, Laura Linney - their storylines are just the worst

psycho2 · 04/11/2022 15:44

I find horror films now are only made for endless sequels

it's being like that since the early 80s though, the horror genre is a general embarrassment so it's rare to get a decent one.

psycho2 · 04/11/2022 15:46

Meet Joe Black

this was never a bit hit though, it flopped at the box office and got razzie awards. Even the reviews weren't glowing nor is it a fan favourite.

Purpleavocado · 04/11/2022 15:48

I love a lot of the films named here, except for Titanic. The bit with the boat sinking was fairly interesting, but I hated pretty much every single character and it was so long.

Jaffacats · 04/11/2022 15:49

Mamma Mia - I lasted 10 mins and I was looking forward to it. The first Harry Potter film - 15 mins and I’d had enough; the CGI put me off.

I loved Manchester by the Sea and 3 Billboards 😀

@addictedtolipstick yes, most people do. I was told Manchester by the Sea was a real sobfest and I normally cry at anything but it left me cold. I couldn't relate to Casey Affleck's character at all.

Three Billboards I was just bored!

I know, I'm a weirdo! 😂😂😂

Blossomandbee · 04/11/2022 15:53

Love Actually
Notting Hill
Dirty Dancing

strugglebug22 · 04/11/2022 15:56

Dirty dancing
Grease - horrible message
All of the shrek films

HideousKinky · 04/11/2022 15:57

La La Land

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 04/11/2022 15:58

It’s a Wonderful Life gets on my wick too.

PonyPatter44 · 04/11/2022 15:59

La La Land - I couldn't get into this at all, it was so DULL.

Mamma Mia - how did that young girl who had grown up on that Greek island have NO Greek friends? Racist tart.

Elf - just no. Can't hold a candle to Muppet Christmas Carol.

I haven’t seen Elf but agree with your other two choices. I love Mark Rylance which is why I saw this and it was so disappointing. Like you, I couldn’t be bothered to watch all of LaLa Land.

Mary Poppins 2 - hated the character and the songs
The Birdman - awful and self-indulgent yet the critics were raving about it
The Holiday - plastic characters and plastic story
Meet the Fockers - Hugh, how could you?!
Bridget Jones’ Baby - so much wrong with this, and I’d loved the first one
Three Billboards - overlong and the woman gave me a headache, but the critics loved it

I loved Revenant which I’d resisted seeing because of all the criticisms by the public. I ADORE Shawshank Redemption, I saw it on rerelease at our local Vue and was blown away by it even more

DisforDarkChocolate · 04/11/2022 16:24

ET. Feck this film is dull, I fell asleep so I've never managed to see the whole thing.

CathyorClaire · 04/11/2022 16:28

Midsommar.

I wanted to see it so much I actually bought the DVD when it came out. So much promised but so much drear delivered 😖

Fortunately I was able to palm it off on eBay for not much less than I paid 🤑

AllOfThemWitches · 04/11/2022 16:31

Inception

More recently, Smile. Why on earth is everyone raving about it? It's been done before.

RovenderKitt · 04/11/2022 16:46

Gravity - bloody hell, just kill her off!
lost in Translation
Se7en
LA Confidential
Is it The Thin Red Line where all the young male soldiers look the same? I couldn’t tell who was who and so none of it made sense
Titanic
