Just thought you should know that they finally have someone in custody for the murder of the two little girls in Dephi, Indiana.

Fox News are apparently reporting that the interview was incorrectly filed in 2017 by a civilian clerk.

So they had him all along. But didn't check their own records.

Oh man. Imagine how you would feel if that was your mistake 😬 He could have taken many more children’s lives over the past 5.5 years (if he is indeed the killer, of course).

CamillasToe · 01/12/2022 18:39

I read the affidavit. I found it interesting that the police didn't release the fact the girls had said he had a gun on their recording, or the fact an unspent bullet had been found at the murder scene. So I assume by keeping this info back, the murderer didn't realise they knew about the gun and so didn't get rid of it.

However I'm not sure how an unspent bullet proves anything really? Surely the defence would argue it is circumstantial evidence and not linked to the murder.

I also can't believe it's taken them this long to arrest him considering he said he was on the trail, wearing those clothes, and other people saw him back in 2017. Seems incompetent?!

CamillasToe · 01/12/2022 18:40

Oh shit just read @SparklySparky message above! Oh my god!

MadeForThis · 01/12/2022 19:22

It was an unspent cartridge that was found. This means it was a live round that was ejected from his gun, like he racked it to scare the girls and the round in the chamber was ejected. This left marks on the cartridge that match his gun.

MadeForThis · 01/12/2022 19:23

The girls were found on private land. When interviewed he said that he had never been on that property and he had never let anyone else use his gun.

SparklySparky · 01/12/2022 20:18

It’s so chilling. Now there are more details available it’s easier to get an idea of what happened and what they must have gone through, it’s just horrendous. I hope they have a few really compelling bits of evidence up their sleeve to go with the bullet.

mathanxiety · 02/12/2022 18:14

The forensic team that examined the cartridge and his gun were certain that minute striations on the cartridge could only have come from his gun. Each gun leaves its own signature on cartridges that are put into it.

It's likely they kept the gun details to themselves if they thought the cartridge had been lost by accident. The suspect was up front about his gun and the fact that he never let anyone borrow it. He may have thought the police suspected someone else when he heard the question about loaning it out.

Worth a watch -

LegendsBeyond · 20/09/2023 20:54

Has anyone else read the latest update on this case. The defence lawyers have issued a statement describing the crime scene, which is gruesome. They claim the killings were part of a secular pagan ritual by Odinites. There were signs written in blood on nearby trees & branches placed in specific positions on the bodies. Those poor girls.

MadeForThis · 20/09/2023 21:29

I saw they suggested a new suspect. Abby's older boyfriends dad.

But it also seems he has an alibi and doesn't match the video of bridge guy as he had a beard.

Law enforcement missed the symbols as they thought they were just branches covering the bodies.

Is it enough to cast reasonable doubt?

LegendsBeyond · 20/09/2023 21:45

It’s hard to believe one man could have done what’s described at the crime scene. It seems more likely there were 2 or more perpetrators. The whole thing is so weird and creepy. I really feel for the families hearing about what happened.

AutumnColours9 · 21/09/2023 00:25

I've been following it and it's so horrible. Those poor girls and families. I don't know what to think re RA. I know at the press conference they seemed certain they had BG and families were posting that today was actually the day. I'm thinking they must have more? And RA has confessed although they could say under duress or mental decline. I hope there is justice soon, the whole thing is horrific.

Tambatamba · 21/09/2023 01:00

The only reason the defence team has come up with this is to try to stop items linking Richard Allen because they were found in his house to the crime scene, being brought up in court.

Is anyone keeping up with the trial?

AutumnColours9 · 27/10/2024 01:40

Hi yes I am. It's terribly sad. Those poor girls. I feel that if that volunteer lady hadn't refound that tip naming RA then they may never have arrested anyone! Also the families had to wait so much longer.. they seem to have messed a few things up!

coxesorangepippin · 27/10/2024 01:12

Not sure what's going on but neither the DM or Independent links work

tobee · 27/10/2024 01:55

I've seen it before of course, but that photo of the bridge is so chilling and tp think of the crime as well.

Those poor girls and their ruined families.

I agree. They messed this up, really. And because of the length of time that has gone by, if Richard Allen is responsible there is every possibility that he could walk free because commentators don't feel the case against him is necessarily strong enough beyond reasonable doubt.

Yes that is my worry too. I was hoping they would have some more evidence up their sleeve. Things like not even testing the hair, collecting the sticks etc seems bizarre in such a big case.

WhatsInTheRug · 28/10/2024 19:24

So no DnA so far to place RA there

Nothing to support they have the right person in custody so far

Quite surprised

AutumnColours9 · 29/10/2024 01:03

Yes it is worrying. Perhaps some of the supposed confessions may give some answers? There seems to be a lot that has been missed/poorly investigated.

AutumnColours9 · 04/11/2024 00:30

Anyone up to date on the trial?

Anon778833 · 04/11/2024 02:45

I think the confessions are going to be the prosecution's main asset, personally. Also coupled with the not insignificant circumstantial evidence - he admitted he was there at the time of the murders and his bullet just happened to fall near the bodies? In one confession, he told a psychologist that he had intended to rape the girls but that he was disturbed by the white van. But that's a bit confusing because he still would have to have been at the scene a long time committing the murders.

I think he's probably guilty. But whether the evidence against him is enough...
