Heed my warning (about crisps)

I’m recovering from covid and I’ve been quite ill. I’ve actually gone an entire week without eating anything. I have fresubin to make up the calories but still.

Anhway, I really danced some pickled onion monster munch. So I got some. And I could taste it. Just.

So I had another. And another.

In the end, I had five packets. I felt good. I ate something!!

Then I realised my mistake. I have a sore now on my bottom left gum. Another one on the bottom right gum. And the skin has peeled away on my tongue.

Damn those crisps. Still have 4 left but I will eat those in moderation and scoff bags of cheesy balls instead.

Sorry I meant MM pickled onions!

I’ve definitely lost a few layers of mouth skin to Pringles s&v. Monster munch s&v are hardcore, I’m impressed with your efforts OP!

My fave pastime is marvelling at Home Bargains crisp isle, it’s a thing of beauty. Long forgotten crisps are there in all their glory!

Transformer-a-snack
Scampi Nik Naks
worcestershire sauce Seabrooks

I know where I’ll be tomorrow 🐷

Hallelujah I've found my people!

Years ago some friends and I had a crisp night. We all scoured the shops for weird and wonderful flavours and got together to sample. It was glorious. Unlike the poster above I'm a massive fan of scampi and lemon nik naks, also scampi fries and any shrimp/squid flavour foreign crisps (popular in Thailand).

I sat in the car the other day waiting for my son and scoffed a party bag of fake skips (Sainsbury's is the only shop that do own brand skips)

Once I had a bag of Worcester sauce flavour French fries but half the bag was the dust you normally get at the very bottom. Obviously some sort of machine malfunction but I honestly felt like I’d won the lottery that day. Fond memories…

nestofvipers · 28/10/2022 23:25

Shhh. Don’t tell them, they will all want them and that will be my supply scuppered.

My husband introduced me to the co op version first and I used to send him there to buy supplies on the way home from work, but one glorious day (on a mundane nappy buying trip) I discovered the Aldi version and my crisp eating life hasn’t been the same since.

My husband said that these are the best crisps he’s ever had! They are rather good and only a quid for a big bag!

BitOutOfPractice · 29/10/2022 00:42

It is for this sort of wisdom that I come to MN. I mean that 100% seriously.

I wish your mouth better op.

PyongyangKipperbang · 29/10/2022 00:43

I once tripped over and landed in a Xmas sized bag of dry roasted peanuts. The dust (the only bit worth having, I see eating the peanuts as the price to pay for getting to the dust) was glorious. I was dipping in my finger and sucking it up with glee. I managed to give myself a finger tip love bite/blood blister.

Worth it.

If you eat 6 packets you actually summon a demon, you have had a lucky escape!

🤣

goldfinchonthelawn · 28/10/2022 21:51

You might want to avoid Cofresh chilli and lemon potato grills. A single bag on a good day will clean the skin from your mouth.

These are so good

LeMoo · 29/10/2022 01:23

/sigh/
I have summoned many demons.

For some reason, eating too many s&v makes my face sweat...those damned demons.

Tigofigo · 29/10/2022 01:24

I bloody love Skips and reckon I could eat more of them than anyone else can of any other crisp style snack. Anyone fancy a challenge?

ArcheryAnnie · 29/10/2022 02:00

There used to be a restaurant in Soho that only served homemade crisps and nothing else. I thought it was a ridiculous concept, but once it closed I really regretted not trying it at least once.

@SpideyCraw phew. Anyone that could do 6 packets of Flaming Hots I would worry about 😂

Hello 👋🏼

I'm Mexican-American and the "flaming hot" flavor you find in Takis, Cheetos and now (weirdly) Monster Munch have been around for as long as I remember. I'm 52 now and I have a mouth and a stomach of steel from eating those since I was four-years-old.

The only one that challenges my mouth, my stomach, my blood pressure and my willpower are "Sabritones" from Mexico. They are puffed wheat snacks laced in chile powder with lime and salt. When I was a child, they were sold with sachets of hot sauce and you'd always squeeze more lime over the top. They're so good but not for the faint of mouth!
www.mexgrocer.co.uk sells them if you dare.

I have recently discovered Sainsbury's salt and vinegar chickpeas.

I know that doesn't sound right, but try them.

SquitMcJit · 28/10/2022 22:47

@TheGirlWhoLived

Yes! Where have the ready salted chipsticks (in the red packets) gone? I still look for them in a forlorn fashion in random shops - hoping one day they will be there.

I miss those, and I regret not appreciating them whilst they existed - who would have thought they would disappear!

JohnsShirt · 29/10/2022 03:17

The pain is worth it.

I ate a multipack of wheat crunchies 2 days ago. Pretty sure i will never eat them
Again

You won't need to - the flavour will be with you forever now!

Tesco and m&s also do big bags of own brand skips. Polished off many a bag!

Clarefromwork · 29/10/2022 04:56

I’m loving crisp sandwiches at the moment. Cheese, mayonnaise and pretty much any crisps.

Monster munch could work 🤔

MorrisseyGladioli · 29/10/2022 05:06

Lidl used to make a big bag of what looked and had the texture of wotsits, but they were peanut flavour!!

I can't really manage the strong vinegar taste anymore, though I will when I've eaten all the others in a multi pack.

InsertPunHere · 29/10/2022 05:36

Damn, I want some Frazzles.

MorrisseyGladioli · 29/10/2022 05:39

I like Ringos.
Any crisps at all, really.

Even prawn cocktail, at a push.

SpideyCraw · 29/10/2022 00:10

Wait, I forgot the pickled onion fish and chips crisps, the burton’s ones. So tangy they seem to infect the air around your face and erode your eyeballs as well as your tongue, but totally worth it

I remember fish n chips in a bag made to look like newspaper. Not sure whether they were Burtons back then. I loved them. They're still in our local shop.

Every now and then I buy a pack of pork crunch and eat the whole bag and end up feeling sick. I think it's because in the 80s I worked in a porky scratchings factory in the summer hols and something makes me crave those days. The best thing about that job was that you could eat as many packs of reject crisps as you could stomach. The American Quarterbacks were by far the best . The factory closed down years ago and moved to the West Midlands somewhere. You can't find American Quarterbacks any more but they will be my gone but not forgotten crisp of all times.

Waveacrossabay · 29/10/2022 06:24

Does anyone remember when these were real? Swear the 90s were peak weird crisps.

The jalopeno ones are 🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵😍

I miss crazy hot pop chips 💔 They were under 400 cals for the giant bag and really hot
