Heed my warning (about crisps)

I’m recovering from covid and I’ve been quite ill. I’ve actually gone an entire week without eating anything. I have fresubin to make up the calories but still.

Anhway, I really danced some pickled onion monster munch. So I got some. And I could taste it. Just.

So I had another. And another.

In the end, I had five packets. I felt good. I ate something!!

Then I realised my mistake. I have a sore now on my bottom left gum. Another one on the bottom right gum. And the skin has peeled away on my tongue.

Damn those crisps. Still have 4 left but I will eat those in moderation and scoff bags of cheesy balls instead.

@Pearbear

I apologise profusely. It’s the reason I found their bastard website - looking for Lamb and Mint. And now I’ve passed on the pain.

Sorry. Would it help a bit that Yorkshire Crisps do a Lamb and Mint flavour? ( it’s not as good)

Soubriquet · 29/10/2022 12:30

When I was pregnant with dd, so 10 years ago, I had a horrible craving for those 10p packets of cheesy nibbles.

No where sold them apart from B and M.

We bought their entire stock and luckily by the time I ran out, my craving finished. Which is lucky cos they have long since been discontinued. My god they were addictive

What is the deal with Canadian ham? Is that a thing?

It’s a bit more smoky bacon-y, hard to explain!

I will get to Morrisons forthwith @SquitMcJit , they are an exclave of Yorkshire and thus a fifth column in the historic crisp ears of the roses.

Iamthewombat · 29/10/2022 16:30

WARS. Not ears!

Do you remember Brannigans? Beef and Horesradish, ham and mustard. They were fabulous with a pint of larger.

@WhatTheHellIsAQuasar I think m&s might have stopped making their Skips... I can't find them in any of my local m&s shops and I'm DEVASTATED.

Branningans were banging. Proper thick crisps with heat from the mustard.

M&S combo mix is god tier crisp snackage too.

They really are.

Absolutely packed with MSG. But worth it.

The real mystery is what became of spring onion crisps. They were everywhere and then they disappeared in the late 80s. I’m not that upset, however, because they were crap. Always tasted a bit sweet.

Other crisp flavours that vanished:

Sausage and tomato (they really existed)

Non-monster munch pickled onion

The two best Seabrooks flavours: Canadian ham and Indian tandoori.

Golden Wonder still make Sausage and Tomato, i have a six pack in my cupboard.

@Tigofigo M&S combo mix are excellent although i've only had the sour cream and jalapeno ones. They looks suspiciously like the Waitrose salt and black pepper mix.

They come in a big bag so you need to finish them quickly or they go soggy, which is unfortunate.

Cheesy balls in excess will hurt eventually too!

Not if you can learn to walk bow legged.

wentworthinmate · 29/10/2022 18:20

Certain crisps make my tongue peel too, I’ve wondered why.

ReneBumsWombats · 29/10/2022 18:22

Maybe the tongue peeling is an allergy to something?

Oxborn · 29/10/2022 18:35

Soubriquet · 28/10/2022 19:57

Not feet! Turn them around and they are a monster

Omg 😱 they aren’t feet

Trudij123 · 29/10/2022 19:03

Family size bag of tangfastics has a similar effect, the burn is incredible.

worth it

girlmeetsboy · 29/10/2022 19:04

I loooovvveeee giant wotsits with cheese on top and microwaved, they go all chewy from the molton cheese!

Angrywife · 29/10/2022 19:04

The only thing I wanted after a few days of gastroenteritis was salt and vinegar walkers crisps.
They tasted devine. . . . On the way down.
Not as nice when they came back up again 😆🤢

I get little ulcers on my tongue if I eat too much cheese!

Commit to the process. After a lifetime of frequent monster munch binges, my gums have toughened up and I can do a 6 pack no problem!

I'm working towards this - good to know.

Highlandtiger · 29/10/2022 19:35

Definitely sounds like an intolerance to at least one of the ingredients. I had to stop having a lot of processed food when they started putting Rapeseed oil in it that is solvent extracted. Really missing crisps, as not found any without the refined oils in them. Butter, Extra virgin olive oil or coconut oil works well in most recipes though.

Adelyra · 29/10/2022 19:41

Jokes aside, Covid gave me awful mouth ulcers. Hope you feel better soon.
