Inspired by the Come From Away thread, thought it would be nice to have a thread about musicals in general.

Favourites? Least favourites?

OP posts:
ShowOfHands · 26/10/2022 19:58

Les Miserables and Hamilton are my favourites and I have a real nostalgic love of Starlight Express and the Albert Finney Scrooge musical.

TeenDivided · 26/10/2022 19:59

Les Mis.
I'm quite a fan of Gilbert and Sullivan too, do they count? I've got a little list somewhere, and I'm never ever sick at sea

WeAreTheHeroes · 26/10/2022 19:59

Love Les Mis and have seen it several times. Never stopped laughing watching The Book of Mormon. Bizarrely, I had Spring, Spring, Spring from Seven Brides for Seven Brothers in my head earlier in the week.

Hated Les Mis - loved Evita.

JorisBonson · 26/10/2022 20:00

Miss Saigon by an absolute country mile.

Thorilicious · 26/10/2022 20:01

Hamilton and Tick, Tick Boom are my current favourites

GlitchStitch · 26/10/2022 20:02

West Side Story and Miss Saigon are my faves and the soundtracks I never tire of listening to.

Meredusoleil · 26/10/2022 20:03

Love love love musicals. Went to 7 or 8 just this year alone!

Favourites are The Lion King, Mamma Mia and We will rock you. Also loved Six, Matilda and Wicked.

Didn't like Phantom of the Opera or Les Miserables.

First ever musical was Starlight Express. Also, cried so much during Blood Brothers.

Others I have seen are Sister Act, Frozen, Cinderella, Grease, Saturday Night Fever, The Bodyguard, Cats.

merryhouse · 26/10/2022 20:04

teen what, never?

(my first internet handle was ingenious paradox)

Whizzi24 · 26/10/2022 20:04

Les Mis is my favourite.

Six and &Juliet were great to see with my tween/pre-teen.

Meredusoleil · 26/10/2022 20:06

Oh yes, we went to see & Juliet too. Was a bit disappointed with the shambolic start, but the soundtrack and story were good.

WeAreTheHeroes · 26/10/2022 20:06

Yes - I love West Side Story and Evita too. The Alan Parker film of Evita is the best film Madonna has done by a long way. Antonio Banderas as Che is great.

threegoodthings · 26/10/2022 20:06

Billy Elliot was my favourite actually seeing on the stage, have seen it 3 times. Hamilton also fantastic and my favourite for listening to.

drunkenflamingo2 · 26/10/2022 20:07

Moulin Rouge is fab!

chipsandpeas · 26/10/2022 20:13

rocky horror is the best

Doidontimmm · 26/10/2022 20:18

Hated Miss Saigon, almost fell asleep.

Favourites are school of rock & phantom

Essexgirlupnorth · 26/10/2022 20:18

Love Les Miserables have seen it about five times.

Wasn't keen on love never dies not as good as phantom. The plot of aspects of love hasn't aged well went to see a production in Manchester and the male characters were full of red flags.

dementedma · 26/10/2022 20:23

DS plays bass in the pit in Musical Theatre so he has introduced me to lots of shows which I didnt know before. Through him have enjoyed Addams Family, Betty Blue Eyes and Priscilla Queen of the Desert.

Old favourites are JCS, Les Mis,Evita and enjoyed Moulin Rouge this year

bigbadbarry · 26/10/2022 20:24

Hamilton, Les Mis are favourites. Billy Elliot and Wicked also great.
Did anybody else see the hunting of the snark, briefly in the west end in the 90s? Loved that.
My least favourites that I’ve seen on stage were Aspects of Love (yawn) and Bat Out of Hell (great songs, great singing, dreadful choreography and couldn’t make head nor tale of the plot)

LeafHunter · 26/10/2022 20:25

Hamilton, come from away and six are my favourites.

Le Mis and phantom are my worst!

Cluckycluck · 26/10/2022 20:26

Blood Brothers is my absolute favourite.
Hamilton, Book of Mormon and Les Mis are all favourite too. Joseph and Jesus Christ Superstar too. Frozen was a big surprise for me, I wasn't expecting much but I thought it was great.

Beauty and the Beast was bloody awful though. Terrible. I genuinely didn't think I could sit through the second half

In the next month I should be seeing Moulin Rouge and Caberet.

Bbq1 · 26/10/2022 20:29

I love musicals and have seen probably around 50+ over the years so i couldn't choose. Six however is my current fave.

neerg · 26/10/2022 20:32

I always seem to love the latest musical that I have seen. Re watching a musical alway disappoints!
Any, I recently saw Even Hansonand loved the music. My favourite is Hamilton though.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 26/10/2022 20:32

Carousel! And Hamilton.

That's interesting to hear about Beauty and the Beast! I really wanted to see that before it finished in the West End, but just couldn't get the tickets. Went to see Frozen instead and was pleasantly surprised at how good it was ❄️
