Inspired by the Come From Away thread, thought it would be nice to have a thread about musicals in general.

Favourites? Least favourites?

Jesus Christ Superstar, West Side Story and Miss Saigon are my favourites, I love so many musicals though and would happily watch them over and over again.

ofwarren · 26/10/2022 20:34

Les mis best, Cats worst

Bbq1 · 26/10/2022 20:34

Les Mis - awful.

I love musicals!

Waitress was one of my favourites, would love to see it again. Also love Come from Away. I really enjoyed Frozen and hadn’t expected too.

Had a couple of disappointments- Prince of Egypt and Phantom. Also wasn’t keen on Wicked and after looking forward to The Lion King for years felt it didn’t live up to expectations.

I have tickets for Bake off the musical next year and am looking forward that.

ElizabethBest · 26/10/2022 20:39

I love Avenue Q, The Producers, Matilda, and Beautiful. I do not love a through sung musical as a rule, but I do like Phantom and Les Mis, and I have a massive soft spot for Joseph!

SunburstsOrMarbleHalls · 26/10/2022 20:42

Les Mis and Hamilton are my favourite.
Have a soft spot for Blood Brothers as it was the first musical I ever watched and have seen it about 5 times.
Did not like The Book of Mormon

liveforsummer · 26/10/2022 20:44

I'm glad people have said Six because I have bought tickets for DD's birthday and am so excited. Agree re beauty and the beast being awful although I'm not a huge fan of the story anyway. I so wanted to love Annie and the first half was great but the second rather dull unfortunately.

Flamingmentalcats · 26/10/2022 20:50

Loved Six and going again in a few weeks. Also love Joseph, Priscilla, Rock of Ages, The Wedding Singer and many more.
Was disappointed with Starlight, Fame was terrible and Footloose was ok.
Can't beat theatre

showgirl63 · 26/10/2022 20:54

Six is also my favourite but I just saw Lea Michelle in Funny Girl on Broadway and if that comes to West End I'd recommend grabbing tickets.

Over the years I've also loved La cage aux Falles, Lion King, West side story and A Chorus Line (like a bit of good dance with my musicals)

ChimneyPot · 26/10/2022 20:55

I loved Heathers, Hamilton and Six

Thought Blood Brothers and &Juilet were just ok.

I agree with the PP who hadn’t a clue what was happening in Bat out of Hell but great songs and singing.

FlirtyMelons · 26/10/2022 20:56

I also love A Chorus Line, the music is great and anything with lots of dancing in is good for me. 42nd Street is brilliant also.

WeAreTheHeroes · 26/10/2022 20:06

Yes - I love West Side Story and Evita too. The Alan Parker film of Evita is the best film Madonna has done by a long way. Antonio Banderas as Che is great.

Couldn't agree more, they were both amazing in it.

FlirtyMelons · 26/10/2022 20:57

Some of the old musicals are fabulous, South Pacific, The King and I in particular, they always have me in tears when I watch the films.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 26/10/2022 21:00

Love:
Joseph
Waitress
Book of Mormon

Love musicals!!! I really enjoyed Spring Awakening. Wicked never disappoints. I also loved Rent.

flowerycurtain · 26/10/2022 21:04

Current fav is Six. Just love it.

Dh made me go and watch Only fools and Horses a few weeks ago and it was surprisingly good.

Oogabooga123 · 26/10/2022 21:05

Le mis and phantom of the opera are my least favourites.

not sure I can pick a favourite out of Hamilton, six, Matilda and fiddler on the roof.

This.

Oogabooga123 · 26/10/2022 21:06

Omg how did I forget Rent! Saw it on broadway in New York on holiday when I was 13 and listened to nothing else other than th soundtrack for months - can still sing la vie boheme word for word!

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 26/10/2022 21:08

Love loads. I went to see Miss Saigon and the male lead was disappointing so it did change my impression. I loved Sunset Boulevard but mainly because I had a crush on John Barrowman at the time (I know!). Loved Les Mis, Whistle down the wind, and saw We will Rock you quite a few times.

I sing a bit myself so it is my style and I can do quite a good on my own from Les
Mis and Memory from Elvira. Also Phantom how could I forget! I have watched quite a few live performances over the years.

sourcreampringle · 26/10/2022 21:14

I’ve loved Hamilton, Come from Away, Book Of Mormon, The Lion King (although that was 20 years ago when I was a kid), Cabaret at the Kit Kat klub, Hairspray, Back to the Future

Liked & Juliet, ALWs Cinderella, Wicked, Mamma Mia, Jersey Boys, Billy Elliot, Sister Act

Didn’t like Dear Evan Hansen, love the music so can’t quite put my finger on why I disliked the actual show so much

Havent seen but desperately want to:
Matilda, Frozen, In the Heights, Moulin Rouge (the theatre decor alone looks amazing 😻), Six, Jagged Little Pill, Rent, Heathers
