What are your honest thoughts on Fireworks?

Last night, we had fireworks going off all night. Last year, ddog was a puppy, and was fine inside. Last night, he was cowering and shaking with fear. He spent the majority of the evening on my lap (not easy as he thinks he's a lap dog, despite his size 😊)
I'm all for organised fireworks events, but allowing people to set them off into the early hours is wrong in my opinion. I think they should be banned for personal use.

It's been a nightmare so far this year. They go on until the early hours of the morning, and this has been going on for days now.

And before someone tells me it's Diwali, yes I know. Still, some consideration won't hurt. Setting them off at all times of the night for weeks is not on.

Cigarettesaftersex1 · 25/10/2022 08:02

All these problems would be solved if they just made silent ones

Tootsey11 · 25/10/2022 08:02

Hate them

LovelyBitOfSquirrel69 · 25/10/2022 08:02

Fucking hate them. See my post in the doghouse. I have a scared puppy.

Whizzi24 · 25/10/2022 08:02

I like fireworks, but only at organised displays. The ones you get for home are pretty rubbish anyway.

PortiasBiscuit · 25/10/2022 08:03

I love a good display with a few sparklers, but most garden ones are shite.
Its all horrible for the environment and I could live without ever seeing a firework again.

OhmygodDont · 25/10/2022 08:03

Love them. Pretty much fireworks going off every day around here. A wedding, a party, religious festival etc.

We live not far from avenue that hosts weddings nearly every day we even get drums first then fireworks. Only had one day where it was a big silly and it started setting off car alarms and what not.

Poa · 25/10/2022 08:03

I fucking hate them, should be organised shows only a start and finish time.
I now live somewhere rural where they aren't a problem but before that I'd often be having a meltdown and not coping with the sudden and prolonged fireworks from strangers/neighbours at this time of year

Smidge001 · 25/10/2022 08:03

Honestly, I absolutely love them. I still find them exciting, and love going out in the garden and seeing local people set them off.

I also find thunder storms and lightening exciting too, so I'm sure it must be a similar thing.

Lcb123 · 25/10/2022 08:03

I like them but think they should only be at planned displays. In our area in south London, teenagers let them off right by houses and put them in letterboxes!

BitOutOfPractice · 25/10/2022 08:04

Sorry but I love them. Having said that I’d love them just as much if they were silent.

KatherineJaneway · 25/10/2022 08:04

Fine for organised displays, should be banned for home use.

TimeForNowt · 25/10/2022 08:04

Hate them for pets, kids, and anyone with ptsd. They don't bother me overmuch personally, but I'm not the only person in the world.

They are also dangerous for the loons setting them off in their postage stamp yards around here, so I also hate them on behalf of overstretched NHS staff having to treat them.

LovelyBitOfSquirrel69 · 25/10/2022 08:02

You can work with your dog on this... try fireworks for dogs on YouTube throughout the year! It does work.

(Totally missing the point!)

parietal · 25/10/2022 08:04

Love them.

WarblingEttie · 25/10/2022 08:05

Hate them. The distress they cause for so many animals is awful to witness. Just make them silent!

Violashift · 25/10/2022 08:05

I like them but not every night randomly for about a month. Maybe the 4th and 5th only or the weekend of would be more acceptable.

Mouthfulofquiz · 25/10/2022 08:06

Sorry to say that I love them. We live quite high up so can see them being set off all over the town where we live. But we have no pets - I can see why people feel strongly against them. Safety wise - I’m not sure that garden displays are the best idea. I don’t do those but I enjoy other people’s.

PAFMO · 25/10/2022 08:06

They look nice.
They terrify animals.
I'd ban them if possible unless they make silent ones.

midgetastic · 25/10/2022 08:06

Love the colours
Hate the noise

Noimaginationforaun · 25/10/2022 08:07

I used to love them but now I wish they were only available for organised displays. It wouldn’t be so bad if it was limited to the night of special occasions (Diwali, Bonfire night, new year) but they’ll be going off for the next few weeks now and I find them really annoying!

I know I’m probably really miserable and people will disagree!

DisforDarkChocolate · 25/10/2022 08:08

I love them but people shouldn't be able to buy them and displays should be licensed and limited to certain days etc.

BeetFeet · 25/10/2022 08:08

Beautiful, especially at a good, organised display.

I played firework noises (and other sounds) to my dogs as puppies. They don't fret. I've never known so many scared dogs, when I was a kid all the dogs in the neighbourhood were out.

Threadkillacilla · 25/10/2022 08:09

Used to like them but they're too powerful now.
organised and licenced displays only for me.

EasyLifer · 25/10/2022 08:09

Organised displays only on Diwali and Nov 5th with strict time limits, eg 6-8pm.
Where I live we seem to have fireworks constantly from mid Oct to mid Nov.
