My favourite is May...I love it, weather is warming up but not too hot, longer evenings, it's full of promise.

Least favourite is December, dark evenings, too much to do and expensive..I'm not a huge fan of Christmas, only bother for the children.

How about you?

Don't have a favourite month, but my least favourite is January, it just seems to drag.

October is the best. Smoky, slightly chilly and all the excitement, dark evenings and the winter ahead of us. Worst is May because the summer and brightness and hot weather is all to come and seems to stretch out endlessly. I am so depressed throughout the spring and summer.

That's so interesting. I can't imagine finding the bright, warm weather depressing. Quite the opposite. I hate the thought of winter stretching out before us...it's not exciting, it feels miserable.

I’ve been working hard on overcoming my natural antipathy for January and February. I struggle with the damp cold which gives me a lot of pain, and I don’t enjoy the sleeping months of the year if I’m honest. But writing off 1/6 of my life is unhealthy, so I’ve spent time looking for positive things to enjoy in the deep winter.
I can now say I have things to look forward to in every month.

Comedycook · 19/10/2022 22:35

I don't actually mind the cold so much...for me it's the dark I hate.

Favourite- July. It's sunny and my birthday
Least favourite- January. I'm skint after Christmas, my house is a mess with toys, it's cold and dark

ALongHardWinter · 19/10/2022 22:40

I hate August, because it's usually when a heat wave hits us. Basically,I dislike any month where the temperature is over 24 degrees! I love October, because I love autumn in general, and because it's the month of my birthday.

Riverlee · 19/10/2022 22:43

Favourite - April - winter is past, spring flowers are out, and better weather is around the corner.

least favourite - another vote for January ( and February, and March).

Icecreamandapplepie · 19/10/2022 22:46

Fave- May and October

Least fave- July and August

Rosewaterblossom · 19/10/2022 22:50

January and February, purely because they are the coldest months of the year, you have to put your heating on and let's face it, a lot of people won't this winter, it's dark and nothing to look forward to in those months. People who crave those months where they "sit under a blanket, cosy with hot chocolate and a fire" clearly aren't the same people going to and from work in the dark, having to de-ice the car windscreen at silly o'clock in the morning, cleaning condensation/mould from their house windows. The former can afford heating (even before the price hike), have the time and energy to cook "cosy" roasts and "hearty" casseroles. There's a clear divide in this country, those rich enough to experience the romance of "cosy" and those who just experience the dredge of being not well off.

dayswithaY · 19/10/2022 22:52

I love November as it dark and cosy. We’ve just had gorgeous October with autumn leaves and Christmas is round the corner, so much to look forward to. November is like a bridge between the two.

I hate June, it’s so boring and bland. It’s not summer yet and it’s too far away from winter. It’s like a big, blank, waste of time.

Comedycook · 19/10/2022 22:54

Really good point. I hadn't thought of it like that but you're totally right.

April is my favourite.... one because it’s my birthday month, 2 - a lot of the time Easter is in April which also happens to fall around my birthday many times.
also it’s spring which is my fave season, because it’s my kind of Temp.

least favourite - January & November
always seems to go super slow. I spend the whole of November counting down the days for Christmas. January I’m usually poor after Christmas and DS birthday, despite saving for a whole year for Christmas. I also have 6 other family birthdays around the same time.

Hbh17 · 19/10/2022 22:56

Favourite - May/June/July - light nights, sunshine, holidays, grass court tennis
Least favourite - December - dark, cold, wet, and most of all because of f*ing Christmas. At least January comes as a relief.

Olivetreebutter · 19/10/2022 23:00

I hate February. Which seems mean as it's the shortest, but I think it's right in the depths of winter when everything feels like it's never going to improve.

I love September. Schools have gone back, we often have a last flourish of summer and I've got a few months of sunshine behind me.

catsonahottinroof · 19/10/2022 23:01

When I was younger, I loved autumn so my favourite month would probably have been September. Now, I appreciate spring and summer more so anytime between May and July (maybe June as a compromise so best of summer yet to come).
The worst month is January. No sign of the spring to come like in February, and a long uneventful month with all the depressing aftermath of Christmas.

ShesThunderstorms · 19/10/2022 23:03

I often wonder if I have reverse SAD if there's such a thing. I absolutely love the autumn/winter months and look forward to them all through summer.
I really really dislike summer. The heat, the need to wear less clothes, people expecting me to be more sociable haha!
I love when it gets dark early, twinkly lights in December, cosy clothes. My birthday and the majority of my families birthdays are in autumn/winter so there's always an air of excitement. The leaves turning beautiful colours, Halloween, bonfire night, the whole lead up to Christmas. It just fills me with excitement!

lakeswimmer · 19/10/2022 23:04

Least favourite - November, it's rainy and getting darker everyday. It has no redeeming features apart from Bonfire Night.

I don't mind January and February because its gradually getting lighter and there's the possibility of crisp winter days.

Favourite - Late May/June. Lots of light, all the plants are flourishing and there's still the prospect of a half decent summer ahead.

MountainDweller · 19/10/2022 23:05

I like May too. Full of promise, lots of flowers coming out, planting stuff in the garden, often lots of sunny days but not too hot. I quite like September too because it's often a really pleasant temperature after the heat of July and August.

Worst is a toss up between November - clocks have gone back, it's cold, rainy and often foggy - and January, which just seems to go on for ever, although we're more likely to have cold, bright days and/or snow, which is better than rain and fog. My birthday is early February and I feel the year turns a corner after that - snowdrops are out and the days start to get longer faster.

As you may have guessed I'm not in the U.K. (any more) but my choices are entirely weather/season related Blush

StapFooterin · 19/10/2022 23:14

I love April. The weather is just warming up. Evenings becoming noticeably brighter. Birds chirping. Lawns needing cut.

I really dislike August. I'm in NI and the summer holidays start at the beginning of July, so August just feels tired and droopy. I also hate that mouldy smell of wilting vegetation that happens towards the end of the month.

Page394 · 19/10/2022 23:15

Favourite - love the “ber” months and the build up to Christmas. If I had to choose just one, then December.

Dislike August. Often it rains and the heat from June and July disappears and it’s just a washout. My birthday is September and that’s generally a much nicer month weather-wise than August.

afterdropshock · 19/10/2022 23:16

April - lighter days, promise of Spring and Summer, Easter holidays. Then in this order
October - autumn colours, mild weather
May
June
July
August
September
December because of Christmas
January - new year, new start
March
Feb least favourite

Once I wrote this I realised what a misery I sounded! I guess I'm just feeling the misery of dark cold months looming with defrosting the car in the dark to go to work rather than breezing through the crunchy leaves and going home to heating and hot chocolate. More like going home to a freezing house eating beans on toast as I can't afford the heating and don't want to put the oven on to cook a meal 🙂

flowerpotmike · 19/10/2022 23:23

Love October through to December. Love the Autumn and the build up to Christmas. I even love the damp and gloom. Also Love May and June because they are fresh and light. So I have contrasting loves.
Hate July because it is too hot and August because it is usually really crap weather. Also not keen on March, it is a weird inbetween kind of month.

Floomobal · 19/10/2022 23:23

Love August, hate February

PlacidPenelope · 19/10/2022 23:24

Like a lot of others on here January is my least favourite month I can find a positive in every other month but none for January - dark and depressing not even Christmas lights to alleviate the gloom and it seems to go on for ever!

Can't pick a single absolute favourite month my favourites are May, June, July and August love the summer and the lead into it, the long light nights.
