Tesco is out of stock for everything - we’re doomed!

Logged onto the Tesco site this morning to book a slot for early November. Everything is showing out of stock! Perhaps they know something we don’t…
Apparently they only have one type of red wine to sell (Malbec) and that’s out of stock, too. Gonna be a long and hard winter.🙁

Lidl, Aldi, Sainsburys and Tesco are nicely stocked where I am!

So it must be regional 😊 (I'm in the SW!)

  1. I don't recall @Nowisthesummerofourdiscontent saying anything about panic.
  2. All of you who haven't noticed any shortages - bully for you. Are you assuming everyone else is lying?
  3. Obviously Ukraine / whoever are keeping all my Muller rice for themselves as Tesco haven't had any for weeks???

Website glitch

My first thought, I mean WHY post it on here. Loo roll, petrol, we’re all clearly suckers for panic buying 🤦🏻‍♀️

ImissyouBR1 · 16/10/2022 09:53

and courgettes in abundance

AnybodyAnywhere · 16/10/2022 09:54

I got my full online shop with no subs from Asda a few days ago. Some things missing in store but I just get whatever’s there.
People do seem to be doing a lot of ‘stocking up’ though which isn’t really helping. Quite a few items limited to 3 per customer.

RedToothBrush · 16/10/2022 09:54

PriamFarrl · 16/10/2022 09:31

I couldn’t get any on Ocado last week so I went to Aldi, who had none and neither did the Co-Op next door.

My courgettes pretty much failed this year. I normally get a local veg box and get fed up of courgettes by end of October. I think I've only had them a couple of times this year. There is definitely a local problem, but yields across the country have been down (and not been helped by shortages in labour to pick those that have grown).

Other countries have also had massive crop failures due to the excessive heat this summer. And thats on top of Ukraine.

The UK imports most courgettes from Southern Spain but there has recently been an increase in the amount we get from Morocco.

I'm not terribly surprised with courgette shortages for that reason.

Like what?

1% milk. Where has that gone?

maeveiscurious · 16/10/2022 09:55

Fine near us

LemonPledge555 · 16/10/2022 09:56

That’s not how it works. Your shop may have had a late delivery (most big shops stock tbe big departments overnight) so stock this morning may well be showing as “low”. Annoyingly you can’t add anything to your basket that is showing as currently out of stock. It’s not a prediction for what they expect in 2/3 weeks. It also doesn’t let basic items be picked too much for online shopping, so there is often plenty on the shelves still.

LickThis · 16/10/2022 09:56

I don't think the problem at Dover has helped either. Alot of drivers don't want to come back incase they get stuck again

shinynewapple22 · 16/10/2022 09:56

I can see that a couple of things in your basket are baby potatoes - is this just a seasonal thing where baby potatoes are more early summer ?

whynotwhatknot · 16/10/2022 09:57

this is the first online shop ive had with no subs this week

ImAvingOops · 16/10/2022 09:57

Shops here in South Wales seem fine, bar availability of stick deodorant and wood pellet cat litter!
Who wants courgettes anyway? I'm saving my panic for when the Toblerone runs out!

PoundShopPrincess · 16/10/2022 09:59

Meh just go to the Co-op. Their shelves are full.

Tbh i have been noticing shortages for 2 years and have adjusted the way I shop accordingly.

I buy things I use regularly in bulk frequently. And I freeze a lot.

I often have weeks I don't buy any meat at all, and other weeks most of my shopping is meat.

I rotate around the supermarketsbor deliberately go to a supermarket located next to another supermarket so if there are short on something I pop next door.

Shopping this way, keeps my spending really low and means I'm not short on things / have to use a more expensive substitute.

I think I'm more jaded by the hyperbole on shortages now than anything. It's normal, Tesco seems to be particularly dreadful for just about everything and their new loyalty scheme is the most hateful thing ever. I stopped using them regularly as they were so dreadful.

Useitorloseit · 16/10/2022 08:54

Haven't been able to get a courgette from them for weeks!

Courgettes are free where I live!

It must have been a bumper year for them, so many people round my way have got loads of them outside their houses with signs saying "help yourself".

Bizarre that Tesco can't get any.

Stravaig · 16/10/2022 10:01

It's not just the out of stock items. Tesco has cut a whole tranche of products in the past fortnight. Sugar snaps, banana shallots, organic lamb steaks, organic red onions, organic courgettes all marked as 'no longer available' and their shelf space removed. Can't remember when I last saw kalettes or organic butternut squash. Those are just the things I noticed. Regular weekly/fortnightly purchases, now vanished, and having to look elsewhere. (Sainsbury's has sugar snaps and organic butternut, but not the rest.)

Meantime Sainsbury's has cut their own brand SO butter beans, but is still stocking all the other varieties. And Seeds for Change Korma sauce seems to have vanished everywhere, yet emailing HQ asking why has it vanished and has it been discontinued got me a moronic response pointing me to their stockists page 🤷‍♀️

I can't understand why supermarkets, suppliers, manufacturers don't just communicate what is going on, preferably before we're facing empty spaces on the shelves. Maybe even some consultation with their customers.

RedToothBrush · 16/10/2022 10:01

I still can't get sun dried tomato puree. It used to be stocked in a number of stores locally but I've not seen any in over 18 months now. I resorted to tracking down a bulk pack at a reasonable price last year but I'm just about to run out on my 12 month supply. Thanks for reminding me I need to do a reorder.

If every single item is out of stock, I think they've got a problem with their IT system rather than a stock issue! It'll get fixed soon

Blinky21 · 16/10/2022 10:02

I use 3 supermarkets on average a week and all have had issues with various products for months. I had to explain to my brother who lives abroad, when he visited that you can't just assume you can go into a shop and find something anymore, like we could 5 or 10 years ago. It's amazing how we've got used to this since Brexit

Fromthedarkside · 16/10/2022 10:04

@Numbat2022 I think Brexit might be more relevant than Covid for this.

When all else fails, blame Brexit.

That was 2016.

Yawn.

😴

Sago1 · 16/10/2022 10:04

I rarely use Tesco but called in to one of their gigantic hyper markets on Thursday and all their systems had crashed.
I wonder if they’ve had a cyber attack.

JFDIYOLO · 16/10/2022 10:06

Local Aldi's pretty good for everything at the mo.

Not seen issues in store and I've been to a lot of super markets lately for non shopping reasons
Stop trying to cause panic.

This. Doomed ffs. Posts like this should be banned

Babyroobs · 16/10/2022 10:08

Our local Lidl didn't even have one bottle of washing up liquid last week !
