Tesco is out of stock for everything - we’re doomed!

Logged onto the Tesco site this morning to book a slot for early November. Everything is showing out of stock! Perhaps they know something we don’t…
Apparently they only have one type of red wine to sell (Malbec) and that’s out of stock, too. Gonna be a long and hard winter.🙁

I had a mystery marrow donor a few years ago. I'd come home and find a marrow on my door step.
I like a marrow. A MARROW. Not 10s of the fuckers!

MrsLargeEmbodied · 19/10/2022 16:00

i think i was gifted an overgrown courgette - but i stand corrected that it may have been a stunted marrow
but only one this year
just one!

GnomeDePlume · 19/10/2022 16:07

In other years our courgettes have sometimes reached comedy size. Not this year though.

Genuine courgettes not marrows.

courgette is just a baby marrow.

ILeclercreturn · 19/10/2022 16:34

All this talk of courgettes is mildly concerning. Almost pointless vegetable really unless you add garlic or other stuff to give it some taste. I could understand excitement over chocolate.

myfaceismyown · 19/10/2022 16:42

@ILeclercreturn we were given a load of courgettes by a friend with an allotment last month. I made soup, curry, vegetti spirals, stuck them in stir fries and made up a courgette fritter recipe with egg, spoonful of peanut butter, some plain flour and a pinch of curry powder. Delicious! Not sure it would work as well with chocolate.... damn stuff is too melty!

It's a bit more complicated than that - see Wiki

C. pepo var. cylindrica = courgette
C. pepo var. fastigata = marrow

But as with the vast majority of taxonomic issues, you're unlikely to get 100% agreement.

myfaceismyown · 19/10/2022 16:51

@TheOrigRights pepo var. fastigata is the spaghetti marrow. Don't believe everything you read on wiki. ;)

I can’t believe this thread on the parlous state of stock shortages has morphed into a homage to courgettes

MrsLargeEmbodied · 19/10/2022 17:34

following a suggestion upthread - my courgette and carrot soup is very disappointing.

Try adding cumin and coriander...

MrsLargeEmbodied · 19/10/2022 22:18

I have, it is just a bit thin @Snippysocks

grannyjacob · 19/10/2022 23:23

Lots of beautiful, good sized cauliflowers in M&S this afternoon. Didn’t see any courgettes.

Nope can't find it elsewhere. I have looked for items at 4 supermarkets before giving up.
Nobody has said we will starve. But I do expect to be able to buy fairly ordinary food items.

That's just it though we have been used to having what we want when we want it at the click of our fingers for years.

So when we can't get it then there's panic. People are struggling to even keep they're families fed right now. There are important things for the majority of us to worry about than being able to buy red wine on demand.

antelopevalley · 20/10/2022 00:24

God your expectations are so low.

Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you got 'til it's gone 🎶

ifIwerenotanandroid · 20/10/2022 01:09

There's no emoji for a courgette, so here's the 🍆Tesco sub'd.

Do you predict that the shortages/supply problems will be a magic cure for all the alcoholics out there too?

eell, if it’s fresh fruit & veggie low in stock with cheap biscuits triumphantly spilling from the shelves, obesity will remain
