I'm binging on ER... favourite episodes?

When Carter and Lucy get stabbed. Especially when Benton comes storming down the stairs. So arrogant but deep down cares so fiercely.

When Mark gets attacked in the toilets. Brutal.

Sally Field as Abby's bipolar mother. She played the role phenomenally.

The chemical spill when everyone randomly starts passing out and Carter takes charge. The first time Benton really started taking him seriously.

Love's Labour Lost. Heartbreaking and Mark was amazing.

...but the very best masterpiece of all - when Doug Ross saves Ben from the storm drain. Seriously gripping stuff.

I'm on Season 7 so I'm looking forward to Susan reappearing and meeting Pratt, who I know nothing about. I am NOT looking forward to a certain character's death 💔👓

But I loved that it was so progressive. It tackled a lot of LGBTQIA+ issues, as well as HIV and addiction

Er provided the vast majority of "material" for debates in humanities 😳 it tackled everything pretty well i thought. Not preachy like in greys. One i remember well was the 2 old ladies that had been together for over 20 years but weaver had to call a brother she hadn't spoken to in a decade to make the decision re placing on a ventilator. Luka and weaver were arguing even though they agreed witg eachother. But the law said otherwise.

And of course the custody battle for Henry.

It was covering this stuff way befire it was popular to do so.

Yep. I really liked the way it dealt with issues. Not preachy but looked at real issues and how the affected people at the time.

I only started watching it quite late on, but the episode where Carter is in the Congo looking for Kovac was just incredible. I had no idea who any of them were but was so invested in him finding him.

PoorMegHopkins · 15/10/2022 14:40

I loved ER and have rewatched a couple of times. I had such a crush on Carter. And I so wanted Mark and Susan to be together.
might have to watch again now.

I've started watching again due to this thread.
It really is the best thing on TV, even now.

swedex · 15/10/2022 18:08

I restarted it a couple of years ago and had to stop when it got to the storyline with weaver and her having to go through her wife dying and their son being taken by thei grandparents I couldn't cope seeing those episodes I was completely heartbroken for her!

Now up to the episode when neela discovers rays girlfriend is 14 😱

Mary46 · 15/10/2022 18:13

Loved ER too. I got into the Resident during lockdown also v good like ER

Latenightreader · 15/10/2022 18:28

A few years ago I watched St Elsewhere on one of the random free view channels and I thoroughly recommend it. 1980s, terrific cast, tackles big issues. It ran so ER could fly!

caroleanboneparte · 15/10/2022 21:03

I took it from the early c section one that the mum had stabbed herself as a diy abortion.

I think it was a bit of social commentary on abortion rights in USA.

What I appreciated in the early seasons is that it was based on Michael Crichton's real experiences as a ER resident in Boston in the 70s. (The hospital has now closed)

The story of the bargain with Spielberg to do Jurassic Park is [wow]

He was such a great writer and died too young :-(

Later on the writers just didn't come across as people with real medical experience.

The DEC and Darfur episodes were groundbreaking. I learned more from ER than the news.

Has anyone seen what happened to Nurse Wendy? And the comments she made about GC? I'm uncomfortable watching episodes with them now.

I find the burn victims stomach churning. Raoul and the man with the chemical burns who wanted to see his estranged DD before he died.

I always wanted to know what happened to Loretta, the prostitute Mark treated a few times. She really deserved a happy ending.

Also Charlie, Kirsten Dunst's character. She could have returned for a follow up.

The Ewan McGregor episode I've only seen twice as it's the only one that actually makes me cry.

Lilylovetulips · 15/10/2022 21:08

Oh my goodness I love ER. Can't even tell you how many times I've watched all tye series back to back.

Mark dying gets me everytime 😭

Go to categories, then drama x

Latenightreader · 16/10/2022 00:02

I really didn’t like the episodes set in Africa…. I’ll be picking up my ER rewatch once I’ve finished my run through of the West Wing so it will be interesting to see what I make of them this time round.

stillvicarinatutu · 16/10/2022 01:37

Still
Can't find it ! I
Have sky - been on demand - more 4 - just isn't there ?

sashh · 16/10/2022 05:18

I can't find it on my TV, but I did find it here www.channel4.com/tv-guide, as a PP said, go to Categories' and 'Drama'

Gilm0reGirl · 16/10/2022 08:36

@stillvicarinatutu so you have to go into the more4 app on your tv, you can't get to it from the sky box unfortunately. I loaded up the apps on the tv, went to more4 and just searched ER in the search bar as it's the quicker way.

It's on All 4 not More 4 - I think it's a different channel

StrawberryPot · 16/10/2022 17:23

I watch it on my iPad via the channel 4 app. And pay £3.99 pcm for ad free.

Oh there’s a thought can you just pay as you go or is there a minimum year commitment. Reckon I could binge the lot in two months

Frazzled2207 · 16/10/2022 18:58

Agree it’s all4 not more4

Soulstirring · 16/10/2022 19:05

The Don Cheadle episodes. Heartbreaking and heroic

greenbirdsong · 16/10/2022 19:15

I remember watching it the first time round. It was when I was about 14 and was allowed to stay up till 10pm watching tv.
I re-watched it about 10 years ago but must do it again if it's on All4.
The Mark Green episode in Hawaii still sticks with me after all these years. Very emotional and expertly portrayed.

Can anyone tell me if Greys Anatomy is similar and worth a watch?

StrawberryPot · 16/10/2022 19:27

@Frazzled2207 - you get a 14 day free trial for ad free, then £3.99 pcm, cancel any time.

Makes such a difference. I've been rewatching The Good Wife and it's great not to have the constant ad breaks.

totally agree! Also ER’s “competition” Chicago Hope, another great hospital drama, but very different to ER.

i find it interesting to watch all the effective “remakes” on other hospital dramas. Looking at you Grey’s anatomy.

TrashyPanda · 16/10/2022 21:45

I adored St Elsewheres

Ballcactus · 16/10/2022 21:47
