I'm binging on ER... favourite episodes?

When Carter and Lucy get stabbed. Especially when Benton comes storming down the stairs. So arrogant but deep down cares so fiercely.

When Mark gets attacked in the toilets. Brutal.

Sally Field as Abby's bipolar mother. She played the role phenomenally.

The chemical spill when everyone randomly starts passing out and Carter takes charge. The first time Benton really started taking him seriously.

Love's Labour Lost. Heartbreaking and Mark was amazing.

...but the very best masterpiece of all - when Doug Ross saves Ben from the storm drain. Seriously gripping stuff.

I'm on Season 7 so I'm looking forward to Susan reappearing and meeting Pratt, who I know nothing about. I am NOT looking forward to a certain character's death 💔👓

I've never seen it, is it like Greys anatomy because I loved that? (early series anyway)

Nothing like Grey's Anatomy in that ER was brilliant all the way through, from Season 1 to Season 15

blusteryshowersaway · 14/10/2022 14:27

I also vaguely remember a scene with the two guys who worked in the reception/desk area. Jerry was one. Can't remember the name of the other but did his son die?

DisforDarkChocolate · 14/10/2022 14:27

Nothing can beat the storm drain episode. I feel anxious just thing about it. Its probably one of the best episodes of any drama never mind ER.

OMG I have found my people. I LOVED ER. No other medical drama comes close.

caroleanboneparte · 14/10/2022 14:41

The question is who would you want as your doctor if you rolled in to A&E?

I'd pick Romano every time.

As far as I can remember he's the only one who's never killed or injured any of his patients. Most of the rest made awful fatal mistakes at one time or another!

He may have been a nightmare to work for but he was the best doctor and left his money to the hospital when he died.

Whatwouldscullydo · 14/10/2022 15:07

Definately gates and kovac! I mean if I'm gonna get hurt bad enough to need a&e id at least like to enjoy what I can

HeathenPlayingHouse · 14/10/2022 15:35

I somehow started watching ER after Clooney left, so most of my favourites are later. In addition to what's already been mentioned, I would add:

Valerie's LVAD surgery and failed heart transplant- Romano really showed his human side to Lucy.

Human Shield- that poor little girl, Abby was devastated. Such a sad case that brought Abby and Luka back together.

The episode where Morris has the patient with DID, and no one believes him. You could really see how he'd matured from the spoiled, lazy stoner he'd been when he was first introduced to a competent doctor. Plus I think Shawn Hatosy, who played the patient, is a really underrated actor.

Alan Alda as Dr Lawrence who had Alzheimer's and Don Cheadle as the medical student with Parkinson's were both so emotional.

I really wish John Leguizamo had a longer run as Dr Clemente, I thought he was great.

Yes, if I were going to die on an ER table I'd like Luka Kovac's face to be the last thing I saw Grin

Whatwouldscullydo · 14/10/2022 16:01

I can think if worse ways to go 🤣

tigger1001 · 14/10/2022 16:17

I'm already back binge watching west wing due to a thread on here, now considering adding e.r. To my watch list - so many good episodes to watch

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 14/10/2022 16:19

NOT the episode that has a 5 second segment where a guy's eyeball pops out of his head and Abby pops it back in using a paperclip.

It's been years and I'm still shook.

itsnotdeep · 14/10/2022 16:21

Yes the Mark one that other pp refer to. I always remember that one.

The storm drain one with George Clooney too.

EllieQ · 14/10/2022 16:54

Does anyone remember an episode in one of the earlier seasons where a heavily pregnant woman refuses to have a C-Section and the baby dies? I remember there was a psych assessment done, which concluded that the mother was “sane” and therefore could not be forced into a c-section as she needed to consent to it.

There is a season 12 episode where a surrogate mother refuses a C-section and the baby may be brain-damaged, but this was definitely earlier as Jorja Fox was the doctor dealing with the patient, and Google tells me she was in the series from 1995-99.

AllotmentTime · 14/10/2022 17:03

OMG the name tag wall. Is it Haleh who has kept them? Trying to picture that bit in my head but struggling.

Loved Sally Fields as Abby’s mum. I always found myself willing her to relapse because waiting for her to relapse felt like watching a balloon about to pop. Maura Tierney (Abby) was so great.

Also I love all the extras. So many times watching something else “where the fuck have I seen them before” and when I eventually cave and IMDB its always ER 😆

There were 2. One was " nobody's baby" where the woman was a surrogate and she refused a c section for a breech baby. Barnett kept having a go at her.

Then there was another where young girl was stabbed akd she was giving police a description except luka thought she stabbed herself and then refused a c section for a placental abruption.

I adore er!!! Gants death, the Lucy and Carter Episode and Mark greene always hung heavy with me.

But I loved that it was so progressive. It tackled a lot of LGBTQIA+ issues, as well as HIV and addiction. Look at friends that was out at exactly the same time making jokes about male nannies and Chandlers trans dad!

Thanks @Whatwouldscullydo - I’m glad someone else remembers this one. Turns out it’s the last episode of season 6:

Season 6 finale

sashh · 15/10/2022 03:10

I've just remembered Bob the cleaner doing surgery.

stillvicarinatutu · 15/10/2022 05:57

Where can I find it ? Searching more 4 and can't see it ?

pinkfondu · 15/10/2022 06:00

Has anyone mentioned the helicopter yet? Can still see it falling towards me 🙈

stillvicarinatutu · 15/10/2022 06:02

I mentioned Romanos arm ....helicopter related

Can't fine er anywhere

Have however just found the handmaids tale !

Er provided the vast majority of "material" for debates in humanities 😳 it tackled everything pretty well i thought. Not preachy like in greys. One i remember well was the 2 old ladies that had been together for over 20 years but weaver had to call a brother she hadn't spoken to in a decade to make the decision re placing on a ventilator. Luka and weaver were arguing even though they agreed witg eachother. But the law said otherwise.

And of course the custody battle for Henry.

It was covering this stuff way befire it was popular to do so.

JacquelineCarlyle · 15/10/2022 13:43

It absolutely was @Whatwouldscullydo & you're right, not in a preachy way either.

mamabear715 · 15/10/2022 13:55

Love's Labors Lost.
Kinda mimicked my labour, but my twins & I survived.
Doug punching the abusive father. :-)
Hell, ALL of it, apart from the Tarantino episode. Bloody hated that.
