Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko supported Russia's attacks against Ukraine, adding that his country began the process of creating a joint regional military command with Moscow. [sounds like a step towards Russia absorbing Byelorus to me]

‼️Russians fired on a convoy of civilian cars in the Kherson region from an airplane: at least 5 people were killed

πŸ—£Prime Minister of Estonia Kaja Kallas believes that due to "war fatigue" and "obvious internal problems", the EU finds it increasingly difficult to remain united on sanctions against Russia

By the winter of 2023, up to 15,000 military personnel from Ukraine will be trained in the EU
To organize the training mission, the EU will deploy two operational headquarters: one in Poland and one in Germany.

πŸ–‡ Germany is forming an additional aid package for Ukraine in the amount of 11 million euros, which will include various winter equipment, writes Der Spiegel
In particular, we are talking about 100 thousand warm jackets and other winter clothes, 100 heated commander's tents, hundreds of mobile power generators and food rations.

I'm very surprised that any nuclear threat wasn't even mentioned atall to be honest.

Coming to the suspicion that he talks about nuclear bombs when actually there isn't any real likelihood that the US will take it super seriously and start taking action, because this isn't the first time that a so-called Red Line has been crossed.

I suspect Putin carefully stays short of imminent nuclear action and simply blusters about it to scare the West.

Which he succeeds in.

These stoic engineers. And all the background people who dig through the rubble and fix the holes in the roads and get the water running again. Hats off.

They’ve hit the German Consulate in Kyiv!

Oh dear, that was stupid of them. However much I'd love Germany to blow the fuck out of the bridge, the Kremlin, a few oligarchs yachts. I really hope cool heads prevail. Perhaps stronger sanctions on Russia?

L1ttledrummergirl · 10/10/2022 12:31

Fair play to those engineers. Gutsy people.

No they’ve confirmed in a Tweet that their staff have been based elsewhere since the start of the war. Still not great optics!

Hancox432 · 10/10/2022 13:05

By the looks of it, it was a very large high rise building that contained the visa office of the consulate. Think embassy staff are based elsewhere.

Igotjelly · 10/10/2022 13:12

Don’t think we can overstate the significance of Moldovan airspace being used to attack Ukraine. If nothing else surely it’s putting civil aviation at substantial risk?

The problem for Putin now is if he gets into a conversation about nuke, the conversation inevitably gets to 'well what IS the red line'.

If he ignores it and doesn't get drawn he can make threats without commitment.

Very true. If an attack on his prized bridge wasn't enough for him to use one on Ukraine, short of an attack on Moscow which I dont see possible I just can't see where his line would be.

Belarus will be interesting, I can imagine they will just sit on the border. Luchenko knows it's the end of him if he gets involved.

Im so angry about what is happening that my instinct is bomb the hell out of the Kremlin , see how they like it up 'em. I know it wont happen and wouldnt be a good idea, but by 'eck they so deserve it

Substantial - not really.

Sub-sonic cruise missiles that are surface or sub launched might pop up briefly to low altitude, a few hundred metres perhaps, on launch, depends on the system, but they then generally quickly settle down to trundle along at very low level, maybe/probably below 100 metres. That's well below the levels used by the vast majority of civil aviation traffic except for take off and landing.

That would mean they'd only be a substantial threat to civil aviation if they were routed over active airports and airfields.

miceonabranch · 10/10/2022 14:15

I'd be happy to see the Kremlin flattened and Russia carved up as a country. They've been threatening Europe with nukes for over 50 years now.

MagicFox · 10/10/2022 14:20

Seems like they're just going to flatten everything ala Grozny. Fuat reporting that Germany are going to send anti aircraft defence system...

@faytuks Medvedev: "The Ukrainian state in its current configuration with the Nazi political regime will pose a constant, direct and clear threat to Russia...the goal of our future action should be a complete dismantling of the political regime of Ukraine"

@maxseddon Russia's defense ministry posted this video of a ship launching missiles on Ukraine and said it hit "all the assigned targets."

Guess that must include the children's playground, park, sidewalks, cars, and pedestrian bridges they bombed today

This is so frightening for Ukraine, I hope the other nations step up.

miceonabranch · 10/10/2022 14:40

What are other nations allowed to do without actually taking to killing the enemy? There must be some way of curtailing the Russians.

Fladdermus · 10/10/2022 15:11

Has anyone else noticed a massive increase in pro-Russia, Ukraine just as bad, EU/NATO/the west to blame posts on social media platforms and news articles today? There's always been a few but it's gone nuts.

Yes.
I really need to stay off Twitter as I have been stewing all day over a tweet I saw earlier that had a photo of a young couple who supposedly died in the Kerch Bridge explosion. The hypocrisy of blaming Ukraine for that death has made me furious.

Then there is all kinds of spurious stuff about Zaluzhnyi being a Nazi.
