Human remains found on Saddleworth Moor

Human remains, believed to be part of a child’s skull have been found on Saddleworth Moor. Please god let this be Keith Bennett. That poor child can hopefully finally be laid to rest in eternal peace with his mother.

He is an utter cunt. How dare he speak about Alan this way? I found these comments by him genuinely upsetting to read so I can only imagine the rage Keith's family must feel.

“He'll [Alan] be negative with absolutely anybody trying to find his brother for him. I've spent seven years doing this, it isn't as if I've just taken a spade, gone to the moors and found Keith.”

And the arrogance of the quote about his special 'ability'. God what a horrible, nasty, self important twat.

“I’ve been doing this for seven years, I wanted to be sure... basically it's just about being able to see what other people can't see. I've just got the ability to do that."

I hope he faces some sort of punishment for wasting police time and also that any media outlets that published as fact that remains were found by the police (which some did before changing the copy when GMP explained this wasn't true) have to issue retractions. Not that retractions are ever suitably done. They should be the size of the piece being retracted IMO.

I really, really think this man is a nasty piece of work.

OneFrenchEgg · 03/10/2022 19:21

Well I'm not sure the article is favourable to him. He sounds like a chancer and clearly not doing it for the family.

diddl · 03/10/2022 19:29

“He'll [Alan] be negative with absolutely anybody trying to find his brother for him.

Tbh I should think he probably is after all this time.

He may have accepted it in a way that their mother never could.

PriamFarrl · 03/10/2022 22:41

I’m just glad Keith’s poor mother isn’t alive to see this carry on. Utter shit, just attention seeking.

Why would supposedly reputable news sources run it without anything to back it up though?

The initial actual real news reports said human remains had been found and were being tested.

I wonder what else got 'hidden' in the news that day 🤔

The report I read was in the Mail and, to be fair, it never really surprises me when what they print turns out to be a pack of lies.

hugefanofcheese · 04/10/2022 00:02

Read the article. If I understand it correctly then good lord, this man isn't right in the head. How dare he talk about Alan Bennett with such little respect and empathy when he must've endured countless false claims about his brother's whereabouts almost his whole life. And why the hell would he not report his findings ASAP? Is he saying he re-buried the alleged bones and is now leaving the police to find them, crowing that he has proof that will make them look bad if they don't produce human remains?

hugefanofcheese · 04/10/2022 00:03

I mean I read the article. That wasn't telling anyone else to do so.

NewMinouMinou · 04/10/2022 00:05

Absolute shithouse. I hope GMP has a stern word with him and he's never allowed back on those moors.

milkyaqua · 04/10/2022 01:44

So much reprimanding of the author as if he is responsible for a full skeleton immediately appearing.

On Sunday, senior investigating officer Cheryl Hughes from Greater Manchester police said: “We have not found any identifiable human remains but work to excavate the site is continuing and will do so for the foreseeable time.”

The archeologist who sighted photograph of the bone remains and identified them as human has said that the forensic team’s progress is likely to be “painstakingly slow”.

What part of this is not clear?

OneFrenchEgg · 04/10/2022 06:37

So much reprimanding of the author as if he is responsible for a full skeleton immediately appearing.

Had he limited himself to quietly informing police of his theory and findings rather than crowing on social media that he'd 'found Keith Bennett 😀😀😀' maybe you would have a point?

WeAreTheHeroes · 04/10/2022 06:43

Not sure you can set any store by that Manchester Mill article. Why would GMP tell them how far down they'd dug when they haven't released any details as far as I can see? Actually having read what Russell Edwards has said, it was the person he showed his photo to who spotted what looked like a human jaw on the photo when he hadn't noticed it in real life though he did think he had found signs of a buried body.

I can only assume that you missed his self congratulatory and inappropriate tweet praising himself for finding Keith (which isn't even the case) with smiley emojis...

It was disgraceful.

hugefanofcheese · 04/10/2022 10:02

It's how he's gone about things and his attitude. It's extremely important to be sensitive in a situation like this. Also he should have reported what he found immediately and didn't. Doesn't suggest he had anyone's interests at heart other than his own.

BorisByCandlelight · 04/10/2022 12:52

It's really sad because if he has found Keith he's sort of made it into a circus, he should have really kept it to himself whilst the police looked into it. I try to think the best of people and think maybe he's happy he's found the boy and didn't think it through but I think it is really unfair to the family, too many ups and downs for them and all through the media too. I hope they are okay.

UrsulaPandress · 04/10/2022 13:56

Just driven past. Tents still there but it’s a very bleak day on the moors.

That's appalling!

Only a self-serving narcissist would do this - or even claim to have done it.

The family must be in a dreadful state, what with raised hopes, lies, obfuscation, and newspapers printing all sorts of inaccurate rubbish.

The bloke must have a screw loose to think this is appropriate behaviour - and to brag about it! What is the matter with him, for heaven's sake? It's just sickening.

Just a bloody narcissist.

Words fail me.

#UPDATE | GMP's specialist officers and staff continue to search Saddleworth Moor

A meticulous examination of an initial area began last Friday (30 September 2022), after a member of the public researching the murder of Keith Bennett reported possible human remains.

Keith was 12-years-old when he went missing in 1964. He was one of five victims of Ian Brady and Myra Hindley – three of whom were found buried on Saddleworth Moor.

Samples obtained by the member of the public have been sent by GMP to accredited experts for analysis, which is ongoing.

I’ve got a horrible feeling the whole thing is a hoax. The ‘author’s’ post on Twitter was awful. He is either a complete liar or a total idiot (for not reporting his ‘discovery’ sooner)… I think he’s lying.

@Emotionalsupportviper Prosecuted for what crime?

Fake/false news, misinformation, wasting police time, lying to the police?
I’m sure he’ll be charged with something if it is found to be a hoax.

Have human remains been found or not?

No

The police are carrying on their excavation in the specific area to be sure they're as thorough as possible.
