Human remains found on Saddleworth Moor

Human remains, believed to be part of a child’s skull have been found on Saddleworth Moor. Please god let this be Keith Bennett. That poor child can hopefully finally be laid to rest in eternal peace with his mother.

I think they were just lucky finding the exact spot the other bodies were found.

They weren't just lucky, they had photographs taken by Brady of Hindley at some of the spots with recognizable landmarks.

Oh gosh that’s shocking onefrenchegg, just awful.

It is isn't it. But it fits with his hideous game playing. Like the letter that he apparently wrote and destroyed for after his death.

thegruffalosbum · 03/10/2022 06:29

What I'm confused about is that the police have put out a statement saying No physical evidence of a jaw bone or skull has been examined.
What does this actually mean? They haven't seen it? It's in their care but havent forensically examined it yet? To me, it suggests they haven't got it. And if not, why not? Why wouldn't it have been handed over?

LadyTwinkle · 03/10/2022 08:51

"Would he have remembered the exact spot though ?
I have nothing but contemporary for both Hindley and Brady but the Moor looks is huge I think they were just lucky finding the exact spot the other bodies were found."

If I'm remembering correctly. They only found the body of Lesley Ann Downey because a policeman had nipped of to relieve himself and then spotted something protruding from the ground on his way back.

I think one of Russell Edwards alleged 'experts' spotted the 'jawbone' on a photo he had taken. He didn't actually see it at the time. But, none of this adds up. How can there have been traces of human remains in the soil samples and the smell of decomposition. And what about this blue striped fabric? But the police find nothing after investigating? So many things about this whole scenario don't make sense.

If this Russell Edwards has been lying or planting evidence to try and get the police to investigate his 'swastika theory' he needs arresting for wasting police time. He can't be messing with the hopes of emotions of Keith's family like that. As I keep saying Keith was a very real person, with a very future that was stolen from him and this chap seems to be acting like he's found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

OneFrenchEgg · 03/10/2022 09:17

Well it's very telling he has removed his bloody awful social media posts. I think a op has it - he 'nudged' the police to check his theory which is why 'he put everything back'.

Hopefully this author is going to get a good lesson in how the internet is forever. He can delete what he likes. The guys a charlatan.

I feel so much for Keith's brother. He must be seething. To have his hopes raised and then realise it's some amateur sleuth who's treating it all like a big game.

This is just what Keith's brother initially thought, that the ''Finder'' is a charlatan.
Is it all an elaborate scam?
IF 'Human remains' were found, surely the place would be exactly marked by the finder, and there would be evidence.

Allegedly, there was just a photo of an upper part of a human skull with teeth present, belonging to a child of about 12.

If this is just an attention seeker, he needs punishment for absolutely wasting police time.

oakleaffy · 03/10/2022 09:31

Jojoe29 · 01/10/2022 19:17

Ahhhhh.. of course. Poor love.. 58 years of decomposition.
There wouldn’t be a ‘smell’.

That was my exact thought.
A mammalian body surely would be clean bone in 58 years?
Seems like this bloke who 'Found' the supposed remains is just a hoaxer and time waster.

WeAreTheHeroes · 03/10/2022 09:51

We don't know - GMP will make a fuller statement in due course. I mentioned it upthread: the soil is peat-based and peat preserves things in way although soils don't so we can't just dismiss what this guy has said.

Namechangedforthisonetoday · 03/10/2022 09:52

So many things about this aren’t adding up, which leads me to believe he’s told a pack of lies. One of the ‘experts’ web pages is ‘under construction’. Could be a coincidence, or her employer have removed her details while they find out what part she played in this.

If he found something that looked even vaguely like bones, why on earth wouldn't he have preserved it very carefully indeed?

If I found something that looked like bones I'd be on the phone to the police, not handing them over to 'experts' I conveniently happen to know. Archaeological excavations have to report findings of any human bones to the police and stop work until the bones are forensically checked. It sounds to me very much like some glory hunter has sent the police on a fool's errand to grab publicity for himself and I really hope it backfires on him.

Why would supposedly reputable news sources run it without anything to back it up though?

The initial actual real news reports said human remains had been found and were being tested.

I wonder what else got 'hidden' in the news that day 🤔

This.

I'd contact police. Wait near the site but far enough away not to contaminate it any more than I had by initially disturbing it, and then just describe to the police how I'd come across it, and go home and never want to think about it again.

It it was the body of a child in particular, I would hope that finding them helped the family gain some peace - and if it was foul play, bring the killer to justice - but I wouldn't go shouting to all and sundry, even if I had a hundred books to sell.

I think he should be prosecuted. Even if he'd been right and there had been human remains, his behaviour led to so much speculation (and probably rubber-necking using drones etc) that the police's job must have been made more difficult - and the family were put through hell.

Isn't the area peat? I'm sure peatlands are better at preservation than a standard soil so not beyond the realms of possibility.

That said, I also think this bloke is a self congratulatory dreamer and time waster who's only served to upset a lot of people. Still, doesn't stop his dedicated followers patting him on the back over on Twitter.

I get the feeling he's one of the 'amateur investigators' who pride themselves on having the answers to long-standing famous mysteries that baffle everyone else so they can get a book and publicity out of it.

BorisByCandlelight · 03/10/2022 17:43

He didn't hand anything to experts did he aside from a soil sample, the alleged jaw bone was spotted on a photograph after. That's what I read anyway. Hope Keith's family are bearing up okay.

BorisByCandlelight · 03/10/2022 17:45

@Emotionalsupportviper Prosecuted for what crime?

bruce43mydog · 03/10/2022 18:20

I know some one who worked at the mortuary in Oldham Mancheter 1987, where Pauline Reade was taken after being found, apperently she was more or less perfectly preserved because of the peat.
Pauline was on the moors 1963-1987 thats 24 years.

I really hope that they have found poor Keith Bennett

LiesDoNotBecomeUs · 03/10/2022 18:30

It is possible to find the wrecks of ancient ships under the seabed (and fathoms of water). It sounds a less difficult task to search for human remains on a moor... but I guess that it isn't.

I hope that they find him.

Wasting police time.

badbaduncle · 03/10/2022 18:44

He has been interviewed by the Manchester Mill Newspaper: manchestermill.co.uk/p/no-human-remains-on-saddleworth-moor?utm_source=email

Emotionalsupportviper · 03/10/2022 18:54

(On why he didn't go immediately to the police)
“I’ve been doing this for seven years, I wanted to be sure,”

Very thoughtful of him.

I'd have been more impressed if he hadn't been crowing all over twitter about his success.

DeadButDelicious · 03/10/2022 18:59

He's a piece of work this Edwards...

He'll [Alan] be negative with absolutely anybody trying to find his brother for him.

Alan is Keith's family. The poor bugger has spent most of his life living with the shadow of these awful events and putting up with cranks like Edwards trying to act like they are doing the family some sort of favour.

No one has actually seen this jaw bone, they think something on a photo may be one. There is a huge difference.
