whilst I really enjoyed watching JRM getting heckled his ‘right to protest’ bs was irritating.

Roussette · 02/10/2022 19:51

I'm just sorry that Laura K didn't open with that footage of Rishi Sunak telling her that her policies were crazy. Back in August.
The silence would have been even longer

Roussette · 02/10/2022 21:44

Truss is sooooo robotic with the huge pauses. Talk about out of her depth

the80sweregreat · 02/10/2022 22:00

I feel a bit sorry for her sometimes, but mostly because politics is such a nasty business and she is only human. She looks ill already and it can't be easy.
It's the policies and her party I don't like , but I appreciate some people might think it will work
I just wished they could work for the people for a change.

the80sweregreat · 02/10/2022 22:02

BBC news Just now , Grant Shapps is now saying that the policies are wrong.

Lonelycrab · 02/10/2022 22:05

I feel a bit sorry for her sometimes

🍿yeah me too.

TokyoSushi · 02/10/2022 22:06

Yes just heard that too @the80sweregreat along with Gove not really hiding that he won't vote for the finance bill either. I wonder what happens if it doesn't go through as that's effectively a VONC. I wonder if they'll take the opportunity to get her out pretty quickly if they can, but who
will replace her. I wonder if she might also sack KK to try to save her own skin. I'm fascinated about what's going to happen this week.

the80sweregreat · 02/10/2022 22:09

No, honestly I do because social media is brutal
I don't care if she loses her job, but anyone in the public eye get a rough deal I think.
However, it's her own party turning on her now
It's not good for anyone really :(

Blossomtoes · 02/10/2022 22:12

I reckon they’ll get shot of her as quickly as they can. What have they got to lose? They know they haven’t got a hope of winning the next election.

the80sweregreat · 02/10/2022 22:15

It feels like the writing is on the wall now !
The conservatives are ruthless.
Damage limitation
My only worry is who will we get next ?

the80sweregreat · 02/10/2022 22:24

How can Liz truss make a speech on Wednesday now ?
Will she go ahead I wonder ?

TokyoSushi · 02/10/2022 22:31

I think she'll go ahead and plough on until removed. I'm not sure how she's going to be removed yet, but I expect the 'big beasts' (I hate that phrase) like the ex cabinet, Gove, Raab, Sunak, Shapps and even quietly Johnson are busily getting on with teeing it up behind the scenes. They've all been around the block and will know how to do it. I don't think a 'come back Boris all is forgiven' is completely out of the question.

We really just need a GE at the earliest possible opportunity.

TokyoSushi · 02/10/2022 22:34

I wouldn't even be surprised at this stage if Johnson did return, called a GE, and bloody won!

the80sweregreat · 02/10/2022 22:40

Raab has been quite lately.
Who knows, but Gove has lit the fuse

the80sweregreat · 02/10/2022 22:41

Boris Johnson, the return !!
Blimey , that would make for some mega news

the80sweregreat · 02/10/2022 22:45

Actually , Boris Johnson coming back would be bad news for Labour.

Notonthestairs · 02/10/2022 22:49

I have no patience with Truss or Kwarteng.

They proposed uncosted policies, deliberately avoided getting an OBR report, cost BoE £65 billion pounds. They've speeded up rising mortgage rates. Imports are more expensive. Appear to not understand rudimentary ethics. And then blamed it on Communications failure and people overreacting.

The word most closely linked to this week's budget was Gamble. You don't gamble with our futures.

They galloped in to this mess full tilt.

Johnson will definitely be angling to be brought back. No doubt posters will start popping up to say again and again he was a victim of dastardly social media (whilst posting on sm).

But who knows, a 4 day conference is a long time in Politics.

the80sweregreat · 02/10/2022 22:40

Yes, it felt like Gove was starting something this morning. If this week is a shitshow (which it could well be) I think they'll move pretty quickly. We saw with the end of Johnson they can shift when they really want to, they also know that under Truss they're likely to lose their jobs at the next GE, and they really don't want that...

Lonelycrab · 02/10/2022 22:52

No Johnson can’t come back, it won’t wash with most people. Plus he’ll make more money elsewhere. And everything’s a bit fucked now isn’t it😐 so he’ll take the lazy option and bugger off. Hopefully

TokyoSushi · 02/10/2022 22:53

Let's hope so @Lonelycrab!

Who would people choose instead?

Notonthestairs · 02/10/2022 22:53

"A cabinet minister has told Sky News Political Editor Beth Rigby that Liz Truss is to delay the vote on cutting the 45p rate of tax for higher earners."

So she'll push it to the Soring & avoid a showdown. Canny but weak.

DowningStreetParty · 02/10/2022 22:58

Excellent little clip if you scroll down of Rachel Reeves talking about the 2.5% per year growth in the economy that we had under Labour. And the paltry growth since, under the Tories..

Ground should have been laid for tax cuts, admits Liz Truss
