"He says that any Tory MPs who vote against the budget would lose the whip"

Did he say Budget? So it wasn't a fiscal event after all.

The problem is that there isn't a single bill, it's a number of individual ones. I don't know whether that will make it easier or harder to get through Parliament.

Harder in part.
Because it isn't a budget, it is easier for backbenchers to vote against parts of it.

Notonthestairs · 02/10/2022 10:47

I wonder if, at this stage, they might feel better to lose the Whip. If there are sufficient numbers the Government would struggle to hold it together.

Notonthestairs · 02/10/2022 10:49

One of @BorisJohnson faults was that he could sometimes be too loyal and he got that. However, there is a balance and throwing your Chancellor under a bus on the first day of conference really isn’t it. 🤞 things improve and settle down from now.

Fault lines emerging.

I just wish these Tories would be reminded of who have been in power for the last 12 years.

Yes! I was waiting for LK to say this when Liz Truss said we haven't had any growth ..
whose been in charge then ?
It's farcical isn't it?

the80sweregreat · 02/10/2022 11:11

The daily Mail have finally made their headlines about the spilts in the party over this fiscal event quoting Michael Gove.
I do wonder how the new chancellor feels too, he has been slung under the bus as well even though she has admitted now they didn't consult anyone before doing any of this.
It's not a great start. People will question this smash and grab on the economy, that's how I feel about it anyway.
(That's if they have time after working two jobs to pay their bills, of course )

tobee · 02/10/2022 11:14

I thought Dorries and Rees Mogg had been Truss's first 2 public backers?

Notonthestairs · 02/10/2022 11:16

Yes they were early backers. I thought it was a signal to certain parts of the party to get behind Truss.

the80sweregreat · 02/10/2022 11:27

Nadine Dorries praised the PM for wearing cheap earrings. Woman of the people! As if

Totally agree.

It's a fact they either seem to have forgotten or hope they general public have forgotten when they word it as if they haven't!

Spamming slightly because I really like this placard.

Sorry to read about your sibling L1ttledrummergirl. I hope they can make a good recovery. Hospital environments can be very stressful- especially when you are already vulnerable.

An elderly relative spent over a day in A&E last weekend before they were able to find them a bed. Absolutely exhausting for my relative but with a system under so much pressure it was t surprising.

itsgettingweird · 02/10/2022 15:32

Oh no your poor sister that's horrendous.

I hope she's comfortable now.

I think the government are running out of using covid as an excuse. I've no doubt it's still relevant in many ways and does take up beds etc but it's no way how it was. This is the result of years of underfunding - the pandemic just highlighted it quicker.

GinFlowers to you all

Cornettoninja · 02/10/2022 15:33

That’s rough @L1ttledrummergirl, I hope your sibling rallies soon. It’s frightening being vulnerable and needing NHS care these days. I don’t think anyone truly gets it till they experience exactly how awful it is.

Piggywaspushed · 02/10/2022 15:38

Oh ,everything is so depressing. Great placard.

Sorry to hear your newsOP.

the80sweregreat · 02/10/2022 15:42

I'm sorry , the NHs is broken and waiting all those hours is soul destroying especially when it's our loved ones.
I hope they will be ok. I agree that things are bad for the health service and it's only autumn
It's not something I've heard our new PM address yet. I'm not hopeful they will do much , but someone needs to get a grip of it soon :(
Let us know how its going

L1ttledrummergirl · 02/10/2022 16:04

Thanks all. They've been stabilised and the cause found so I'm sure that they will recover well. Thanks to the dedication and expertise of the people involved.

No thanks to the tories though.

Ive asked for a post to be deleted as I'm a nitwit who left some potentially identifying information.

Long story short, 41 hours spent in a&e before being transferred to a ward. Staff amazing but understaffed. Patients on trolleys in corridors similar to the early 90s.

Government destroyed economy, nhs etc busy having a weekend party to congratulate themselves and shirk work.

They were bad even in July when FIL died of sepsis after waiting several hours for an ambulance and then queuing outside A&E. When I commented to a nurse about the 10 ambulances waiting outside as we arrived to see him she said "actually it's relatively quiet today".

DuncinToffee · 02/10/2022 17:59

Flowers L1ttledrummergirl

The government hasn't even finished yet with destroying the public services Angry
