@Cornettoninja You have a way with words , thank you for making me smile!
Seriously, how do we, the long suffering UK public force a GE? How is the GE petition doing?

I knew about Johnson's lack of truth, integrity and morals but this is
unbelievable , except it would seem to be 100% the truth.

Notonthestairs · 01/10/2022 21:27

LibDem's have proposed that we need an inquiry in to Kwarteng's attendance at the cocktail party.

the80sweregreat · 01/10/2022 21:39

Go Lib Dems !
He needs to go ( if it's all true of course )
Which seems likely.

L1ttledrummergirl · 02/10/2022 00:00

You'd have thought they would have learned by now that parties are a seriously bad idea. It seems the conservatives are incapable of learning from mistakes so are doomed to repeat them.

I forgot, the rest of the country figured that out years ago.

At least the new chancellor had a legal cocktail party this time around. It's a shame nobody taped it all because it'll always be speculation as to what was said or hinted at for the hedge managers to make a fast buck.
They will deny it all.

the80sweregreat · 02/10/2022 08:54

Liz: I'm keeping the triple lock on pensions.
So keeping my older conservative voters happy.

the80sweregreat · 02/10/2022 09:09

Blimey, Michael Gove is putting the boot in.
Liz came across badly but Laura K isn't the best interviewer either. She isn't one of the heavy weights.

itsgettingweird · 02/10/2022 09:20

I've always had a hatred for Gove since he fucked up education.

But something about him always confuses me. Despite being one of those and despite being off with the nasal fairies and despite having dodgy morals - every now and again he says or does something that surprises me (in a good way!)

the80sweregreat · 02/10/2022 09:22

Michael Gove is an enigma.
He backed Rishi Sunak too.
Laura K is annoying me , much harder on Reeves than Truss.

Gove at least pays attention to his brief and knows what he is talking about.

itsgettingweird · 02/10/2022 09:53

Yes jwg I think that's it.

itsgettingweird · 02/10/2022 09:54

Or Jgw even!

the80sweregreat · 02/10/2022 09:55

I didn't have Michael Gove down as someone interested in much apart from himself.
Unless his just reading the room a lot more than his colleagues are ?
Plus his man lost too.

itsgettingweird · 02/10/2022 09:56

Enigma sums him up perfectly.

jgw1 · 02/10/2022 09:56

itsgettingweird · 02/10/2022 09:54

Or Jgw even!

I don't have to agree with him, but at least he gives the impression of wanting to do a good job for what he says as everyone's benefit.

itsgettingweird · 02/10/2022 09:59

Yes that's the impression I get too. But what we know of him from past decisions makes me wonder (as 80's said) if he's just better at reading a room.

Which is why enigma is a great word to describe him.

Notonthestairs · 02/10/2022 10:11

You really don't need to be an especially talented politician to see that proposing unfunded tax's cuts for the wealthy whilst cutting public services is not a good look.

That said he'd be a far better proposition than Truss.

Laura K is an unreconstructed Tory fan girl, even now her crush Johnson isn’t in power. She’s biased, lightweight and despicable.

Notonthestairs · 02/10/2022 10:15

"Laura K is an unreconstructed Tory fan girl, even now her crush Johnson isn’t in power. She’s biased, lightweight and despicable."

I don't necessarily disagree. But I don't know how much is Laura K and how much is the BBC trying to keep the Government onside.

We've seen already how unpopular Governments focus on BBC & Ch 4 when they are in crisis and the Tories are definitely in crisis right now.

Notonthestairs · 02/10/2022 10:17

"Conservative chair Jake Berry: People know when they get their bills, they can either cut their consumption or get higher salaries or higher wages and go out there and get that new job"

twitter.com/lisaocarroll/status/1576479726696550400?s=46&t=vQAcgXHpmrSvR7R22d0LGQ

It's not true (people can be limited by childcare, caring responsibility, transport, ill health etc) but will find favour with certain MNers!

DuncinToffee · 02/10/2022 10:23

Jake Berry is very vague on the after party on Sophy Ridge

He is very 'understanding' Hmm

He says that any Tory MPs who vote against the budget would lose the whip

the80sweregreat · 02/10/2022 10:23

Most people in the public services can't earn more though , if your a teacher your already doing a long week.
They really do not live in the real world do they ?

DuncinToffee · 02/10/2022 10:34

'Just cut your usage and find a better paid job'

jgw1 · 02/10/2022 10:35

DuncinToffee · 02/10/2022 10:34

'Just cut your usage and find a better paid job'

Well if only people were as clever as Jake Berry he wouldn't even need to be giving out this common sense advice.

Notonthestairs · 02/10/2022 10:35

An irrelevant blast from the recent past. But i doubt it's an accident that Dorries interview - trumpeting Johnson - is published this weekend. She remains enthralled by "one of the worlds great leaders" and cross with Emily Maitlis!

“If you sat in Boris Johnsonn_’s cabinet, it felt like you had his protective wings around you,” she says. “To say I am disappointed . . . isn’t a strong enough word for what happened to him, and I didn’t feel I had it in me to give what I had just given over the past year.
