You know it is bad in Tory HQ when their representative on newsnight is DKLemon. Who proudly states at the bottom of his House of Commons head paper that he is the Prime Minister's envoy to Mongolia (I kid you not).

I despise the Tories and their current leadership. But I don’t see what’s wrong with this.

Did you see his performance last night?

borntobequiet · 30/09/2022 08:24

No but I don’t see the problem with being proud of being an envoy.

borntobequiet · 30/09/2022 08:25

To anywhere.

eveoha · 30/09/2022 08:57

Hello Mrs DKLemon 👍🏿 Aka Borntobequiet🙄

ClaudineClare · 30/09/2022 09:01

I see the gruesome twosome are meeting with the OBR today. What a shambles.

DuncinToffee · 30/09/2022 09:09

No need for that eveoha

I see Andrew Griffith is sent out to defend the indefensible, no answer whatsoever on if benefits will rise with inflation other than 'wait and see'

the80sweregreat · 30/09/2022 09:29

Early Halloween meeting for the OBI then
Nightmare at number 10.
If they go after the triple lock / pensions maybe it will sink in to a few more people that they are not on their side at all
Would they dare do this ?
Alienate even more people ?

DuncinToffee · 30/09/2022 09:30

And some less bad news

As PM meets OBR, £ is back up to USD levels during mini budget..

UK is not currently in a technical recession - growth for the second quarter has been revised upwards to +0.2%

the80sweregreat · 30/09/2022 09:37

That's good duncin
Maybe the markets will settle down now a bit

the80sweregreat · 30/09/2022 09:38

I think that the energy bills will still be a shocker despite the money etc
It's still going to be a tough winter

the80sweregreat · 30/09/2022 09:57

I had to wiki the OBR and the first name up was George Osborn! I wonder if his a fan or not of this new government?

Notonthestairs · 30/09/2022 09:59

"As PM meets OBR, £ is back up to USD levels during mini budget.."

But it's cost £65 billion to shore that up and tanked our Governments credibility.

the80sweregreat · 30/09/2022 10:06

65 billion ..
If this was a Starmer government it would be top of the daily Mail headlines every single day and not about 20 pages on Harry and Meghan or some other frivolous trivia.

DuncinToffee · 30/09/2022 10:16

According to the ONS, the UK economy is the only G7 economy not to have recovered to pre-pandemic levels"

mibbelucieachwell · 30/09/2022 11:09

Does the OBR often revise its calculations? It feels odd.

The current and recent governments have made me suspicious of so much now.

Then again, in the event of the next financial quarter showing negative growth after this revised estimate of a small amount of growth during this quarter that will reflect even more badly on KK and LT's policies.

the80sweregreat · 30/09/2022 11:12

Seeing George Osborn's name come up on wiki this morning .The OBR cant be that impartial then?
I've no idea though

and is a short term prop..

the80sweregreat · 30/09/2022 11:42

A caller on lbc today , he was explaining it all and he agreed it's a short term prop too
He sounded genuine.

ClaudineClare · 30/09/2022 12:01

The OBR meeting lasted 48 minutes. Wonder what that means?

I don't think George Osborne is part of the OBR? Happy to be corrected!

He was very credible wasn’t he. What was the date he gave? 11th Oct? That’s when the BoE will stop shoring up pensions.

Notonthestairs · 30/09/2022 12:12

Osborne proposed the OBR in 2009 when he was Shadow Chancellor to provide analysis & improve transparency.
It's independent but still connected the Treasury I think.
Not perfect but very much worth having.

Notonthestairs · 30/09/2022 12:13

So we've got a fortnight before that BoE reviews things? Or changes policy?

I did not know that, thanks.
