When are you turning the heating on?

Assuming that you will turn it on at some point, is there a date or a temperature you're waiting for?

It's only 16 degrees inside my house right now and my hands are freezing! But somehow it feels wrong to put the heating on before October.

Have done so about 6 days ago

Loopyloooooo · 26/09/2022 11:03

I was thinking about it yesterday but haven't yet.

Iggyp · 26/09/2022 11:03

I will leave it as long as possible.

Currently sat on couch with a hoodie, dressing gown and blanket.

Flopisfatteningbingforchristmas · 26/09/2022 11:03

Last week or so. It’s timed to come on for an hour in the mornings for now. I put the fire on last night too and I think I’ve only had the heating on one afternoon.

BrownOrangeRed · 26/09/2022 11:05

Probably once it starts dropping below freezing

ponygirlcurtis · 26/09/2022 11:07

I leave my heating on timer all year but just turn my thermostat down in about April. This morning the heating came on because the house was so cold, probably about 14 degrees. I have been trying to wait till October as well but have been thinking about putting it back up anyway, it's really gotten cold over the last few days.

Drysner · 26/09/2022 11:07

Not everyday but it's been on at least a couple of times in the past few weeks and on again this morning for a couple of hours, it's 7c outside, cold, windy and pissing down so needed that heat bump.

Pascha · 26/09/2022 11:08

When putting a jumper on doesn't help. My house is running at about 19° right now so no need. The stat is set to 18° so once the daytime temp indoors drops consistently below I will switch it on and off here and there.
I reckon by mid October we will have it permanently running, set for 18° in the day and 14° at night. It almost never gets that low though so I don't see it coming on more than early morning for a good while.

PinkHeadphones · 26/09/2022 11:11

I would put it on if the house was 16 degrees! It is 19.5 at the moment

YumYummy · 26/09/2022 11:11

About 10 days ago, today is the first day I’ve had on it on during the day.
I like my house to be about 18 during the day and 19 in the evenings. Any warmer and I fall asleep watching TV.

Cheeselog · 26/09/2022 11:12

When it’s cold. Windows open here at the moment!

ChessieFL · 26/09/2022 11:13

Once we’ve all got as many additional layers on as is practical and we’re still cold.

35965a · 26/09/2022 11:14

When it’s cold. Luckily house stays reasonably warm through autumn. If I’m in a jumper and socks and still cold then I’ll put it on. The kids will happily lounge around in their undies so they’re fine at the moment.

7Worfs · 26/09/2022 11:15

Started putting it on two nights ago - on for most of the night.
No need yet during the day - downstairs is so warm we are still in t-shirts.

Mochudubh · 26/09/2022 11:16

I've literally just turned mine on for the one hour boost, just to "test" that it works. Sixteen degrees in my living room just now.

transformandriseup · 26/09/2022 11:17

When it drops below 18 indoors. It's still 19.5 at the moment going up to 21 on warm days. It will probably be on in a couple of weeks.

MintJulia · 26/09/2022 11:18

Not yet. It's 14 in my bit of Hampshire today, and 18 in my kitchen.

I've moved on from summer clothes, now added socks, and a thin lambs wool sweater. I'm comfortable.

When the evenings get chilly, I'll fire up the log burner - so probably within a week or two. I won't use the gas heating until we get a frost, to boost the temperature in the house in the morning. But I'll stick with the log burner for as long as possible.

vodkaredbullgirl · 26/09/2022 11:18

My house is still at 20.5.

This, pretty much. As we do every year. We each have blankets on the beds, & on each chair. Not likely to happen any time soon though, as we've still got the windows open. We're going to have the thermostat a couple of degrees lower this winter though.

Blocked · 26/09/2022 11:20

We are just moving into jumpers/dressing gowns and fleece pyjamas territory. Be a few weeks yet at least before the heating goes on.

Misandre · 26/09/2022 11:21

Not yet because it hasn't gone below 17.5 in the daytime, but if it were 16 today I'd have turned it on already.

I can't be doing with going by the calendar. If it's too cold, it's too cold.

Normally we would have been giving it a bit of a boost in the evening by now, but I'm trying to get used to 18 this year.

DevaleraSpawnOfSatan · 26/09/2022 11:21

It went on yesterday for two hours, I cracked when I thought I was coming down with a virus of some sort, my legs were like lead, I went to have a shower and hey presto I was just cold as I was fine after a shower. So on the heating went.

whoruntheworldgirls · 26/09/2022 11:22

It's been on about a week after the thermostat was reading 17 degrees, we've set it to 19, it comes on first thing and generally stays at 19 all day after that.
We'll go up to 20 in a few weeks as it gets colder

YumYummy · 26/09/2022 11:22

The same thing happened to me, I thought oh no I’m I’ll!

LindaEllen · 26/09/2022 11:23

When we're actually miserable because we're cold, and a jumper/blanket doesn't help.

We've had it on twice for a short period of time over the last fortnight.

Not on today at the moment.
