OK, another woo thread but I can't resist them so decided to post my experience of seeing a 'ghost '.

Years ago before I married, I stayed at DH's flat before I went on a business trip.

I couldn't sleep and was tossing and turning for a good few hours. I am pretty certain I was definitely wide awake as I was thinking about the press trip the next day and I was wondering how I was going to survive it if I'd not slept.

My DH was asleep on the sofa in the living room as he snores really loudly so I was in his room in his double bed. I remember turning over from facing the window to face the empty side of the bed. I then saw a woman who was actually sleeping under the duvet, eyes closed, as clear as I could see anything else in the room.

She was youngish, wearing what I can only describe as somd 1920s flapper headband, and was literally tucked in under the duvet.

I have thought about this many times but I am convinced that I was definitely not dreaming or half asleep. I actually sat up in bed and looked at her in total horror and fright. At the point where I wondered if I should prod her to see if she was real, a few minutes had gone by. I was literally so terrified that I had to hide under the duvet and then when I emerged after what seemed an age, she was gone.

I've never seen or experienced anything quire as scary since and I'm certain that I was hallucinating or dreaming. It's definitely made me think about whether ghosts genuinely exist 🤔

Day my step dad died -mum came back from hospital where he’d died and she came into my living room and I was so cold, shivering. When she left I immediately warmed up.
few of days later I was sleeping on the sofa/ then when I was in bed I woke up both times because my right hand (on the outside of my duvet) was freezing cold for a few minutes.

and numerous times since he died in 2011, I smelt really strong cigarette smoke in the bath room like you’re standing next to someone smoking. No one in house smokes.

But since mum died in 2020 there’s be no smoke/smell of smoke in the bathroom

FannyAintMeAunt · 25/09/2022 21:34

I have cats and they are not in the bedrooms at night but twice I’ve been in bed, duvet over me and it feels as if one is in the bedroom getting the duvet comfy with their paws like they do before settling down - that freaked me out

SO224350 · 25/09/2022 21:42

I was cleaning the bathroom and out of the corner of my eye,saw my daughter in the reflection of the shower screen running past the bathroom, in her nightie into her room. I popped my head in she turned out to be downstairs not wearing a nightie!

My other daughter was sitting in her pushchair waiting to go out and pointed to a bare wall laughing her head off

I used to work in a hospital built during the war and on a night shift you could hear somebody running down the corridor only all the patients were immobile. I was told it was the old pipe work in the roof void but it was very spooky. There was also a side ward , single room , that’s was always cold where as none of the others were.

dudsville · 25/09/2022 21:54

I always say this; i don't believe in ghost but I've had two experiences. Once when i was 13 i was walking down a hall with some folded laundry the hall also opened up to a view of the living room. It was midday. I saw a small family in the living room. That was a new build.

The other occurance was in a 130 yr old home. This was a dream, i saw a small gathering around a hearth, the next day i tore down a fake wall and unconvered The Hearth.

KangarooKenny · 25/09/2022 21:57

I spoke to one in a hospital at night what I was walking back to the ward alone. It still terrifies me now.

minticecreamisjustok · 25/09/2022 22:02

@KangarooKenny tell us more, what did they say? Look like?

Pumpkinpatchlookinggood · 25/09/2022 22:02

Several in fact. As a teen I was lying on the floor trying to fix my friend's video machine. Her df appeared in the reflection of the off TV.. He had died recently.
Early 20's an old man in a suit sat in the bottom of my bed..
Years later a small boy a few times - always from the back. Heard him laughing and playing with dc's toys.
Saw the ghost of my recently murdered friend the night before I moved from the Street we had both lived in..

NooNooHead1981 · 25/09/2022 22:03

@KangarooKenny that's really scary! If I'd spoken to the ghost I'd seen, I would have jumped out of the bed in fright!

My former partner is very seriously ill, and he has mentioned twice he keeps seeing a little girl dressed in old fashioned clothes, in his peripheral vision. She looks happy, skipping around, but when he turns his head to look properly, she disappears.

No but can we have a trigger warning saying Don't read if you're alone in bed under the duvet 😂😂😂😂.

Great thread btw.

Qisk · 25/09/2022 22:57

Ghosts exist. Just not in the way Hollywood likes to portray them. Ghosts do not have capacity or consciousness. They lack agency of any kind. What you see, hear or feel are impressions left in time. Like ridges scratched into vinyl or electrons organised into pixels, they playback under natural conditions as if they are real. They are a recording, nothing more or less.

YorkieTheRabbit · 25/09/2022 23:05

I don’t believe in ghosts, I did however once see something that I can’t explain.
id have been around thirteen at the time and was sat at the dining table with the whole family, dad step mum, sister and two step brothers. I definitely saw a man walk from left to right behind where I was sitting, I did a double take as I’d assumed it was my dad but he was still sat in his chair. I didn’t see the face as I was sat down and I’m sure he was wearing smart clothes where as my dad was in casuals. My stepmum’s first husband had died in the house several years previously but I haven’t a clue if that was anything to do with what I saw 🤷‍♀️

Whenever I see a post about ghosts it's always very interesting to see how many people's experiences occur either when they're trying to get to sleep, just woken up or it's dark

This thread is exactly the same

Porridgeaddiction · 25/09/2022 23:09

I really shouldn't have read this thread just as I'd gotten into bed.

I've seen several ghosts.

I lived in a house and very often I'd wake to see a shadow standing at the end of my bed. There was also a few weird goings on in the house like taps switching themselves on and off and lightbulbs shattering even if the lights weren't on. The next family that moved in asked me if the house was haunted as their daughter (who slept in the room that was my bedroom) kept mentioning a man who came into her room at night.

There is a ghost cat in my mum's house, often seen walking into and through walls

I saw my deceased dad and grandparents stood next to me as I was giving birth, like they were there to watch the birth. I only had gas and air towards the end, so it wasn't hallucinations from opiates!

I'm sure that there's some other spooky goings on.

I'm not going to be able to sleep now, so watching the thread to hear other people's stories!

Your mum was a secret smoker or started after your dad died because she liked the smell.

Saw what my 8/9 year old self thought was God. Very old man with long grey hair and beard dressed in black rone's. He appeared near the bathroom door and came along the landing to my bedroom door. He wasn't scary.
Found out many years later that the lane at the back of the house was originally the road to a monastery so maybe it was a monk I saw.

Ive seen things in the middle of the day, when no sleep was involved!
But then lots of strange stuff happened in that house... I used to say to my mum and she'd say oh don't be silly, you're imagining it! It was only years after we moved out and when I was an adult that she admitted that yes, lots of weird things happened in that house.

When pregnant with dd I was driving to work one frosty morning. Driving over a bridge there was a man standing outside his parked car as I drove past, he looked at me and with his outstretched arm moving up and down, he was telling me to slow down. When I looked in my rear view mirror when I had driven past him he and the car disappeared. I did slow down. A few minutes after this I hit a patch of black ice, the car went out of control and crashed into a ditch. Had I been going faster then outcome would not have been so good.

Loving all the things people have been posting! I've definitely seen what I'd describe as waking hallucinations (I can't remember the name of them), and seen people, mainly Chinese men, appear briefly and then disappear after a few seconds. The woman I saw in my DH's bed was most definitely something that didn't disappear and she laid there for ages. Yes, I guess that I was pretty tired and could have been dreaming but considering that I actually sat up and she was under the duvet made me think she wasn't going to be a figment of my imagination.

Middle of the day I walked into the school cloakroom a place I was not supposed to be in saw a cleaner cleaning the pipes (victorian school pipe heating was fantastic great way to dry shoes and socks) I said sorry backed away she vanished into the pipes just leaned forward and poof gone!

Luredbyapomegranate · 25/09/2022 23:37

Not to be snarky OP, but which is more likely - a ghost from the 20s got into bed with you, or you were dreaming?

onemorerose · 25/09/2022 23:39

I’ve never seen anything that I could say was a ghost but I definitely get the feeling they are around. Sometimes I smell my late mother in laws perfume in my home, I love that though.
