OK, another woo thread but I can't resist them so decided to post my experience of seeing a 'ghost '.

Years ago before I married, I stayed at DH's flat before I went on a business trip.

I couldn't sleep and was tossing and turning for a good few hours. I am pretty certain I was definitely wide awake as I was thinking about the press trip the next day and I was wondering how I was going to survive it if I'd not slept.

My DH was asleep on the sofa in the living room as he snores really loudly so I was in his room in his double bed. I remember turning over from facing the window to face the empty side of the bed. I then saw a woman who was actually sleeping under the duvet, eyes closed, as clear as I could see anything else in the room.

She was youngish, wearing what I can only describe as somd 1920s flapper headband, and was literally tucked in under the duvet.

I have thought about this many times but I am convinced that I was definitely not dreaming or half asleep. I actually sat up in bed and looked at her in total horror and fright. At the point where I wondered if I should prod her to see if she was real, a few minutes had gone by. I was literally so terrified that I had to hide under the duvet and then when I emerged after what seemed an age, she was gone.

I've never seen or experienced anything quire as scary since and I'm certain that I was hallucinating or dreaming. It's definitely made me think about whether ghosts genuinely exist 🤔

I used to work in a kid's hospital, and on the weekend, the outpatients department was shut.... all dark, no one there.
One weekend, I saw a little boy run across one of the corridors in the outpatients department. I followed, and could not find anyone. I described him to my colleagues and got laughed at, but a couple also described him too. It matched the description I gave.
The body store was attached to the outpatients department. I do wonder if I saw a ghost... I don't particularly believe in it, and I think it would be a miserable afterlife for a little boy to be stuck in outpatients for all of eternity.

No. Nobody has.

🙄

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 29/09/2022 19:52

You don’t know that, @Qisk - it’s just a possible theory.

Twice, my dd saw her 8-10 month old babies - in her arms at the time, and both in exactly the same place - smiling and waving at someone who wasn’t there. There was no mirror or reflection to account for it.

Shortly before they bought the house one of the previous owners had died - a 60-something mother of 3. The house had always had a lovely warm and happy feel, so while mildly spooked by the thought of her possibly hanging around, dd wasn’t at all freaked out.

Similarly, a younger sister of 3 at the time, used to say that ‘a lady’ was sitting on the end of her bed and smiling at her.
We had not long moved into the house, and one of the former owners - a relatively young woman, had died in childbirth - her first - shortly after we moved in.

Of course I do not know. Anything about ghosts nobody knows. Like so many things it is a theory.

Your story is not proven either. It could be the impressions and natural phenomena that I wrote upthread.

If you put some music on for your grandkids are they listening to Ariana Grande? Or are they listening to sounds that recompose Ariane Grande through an arrangement of particles and electrons all of which exist in nature. Humans who create these things are also part of nature. Nature creates humans and if it can create humans who arrange lithium, silicon and other natural elements then I find it hard to deny that nature cannot by chance arrange things too.. Nothing wrong with this theory by the way. Not proven, but then neither are ghosts having some form of consciousness or agency.

Years ago,a frenemy (i though she was my mate at the time) lost a baby (i didn’t know this at the time)
about a year later I was at hers, sat on the sofa having a chat with her
suddenly I saw a little boy, aged about 4/5 in her doorway (as solid as a ‘normal’ child) and the name ‘Sam’ popped into my head
i told her this-the little boy would have been about 4,they called him sam and they often saw him peeping round her other sons bedroom door
fast forward 13 years, she’s long since out of my life, and I find out she’s had another baby (she popped up on my sm)
the child was about 3-ish and the image of the child I saw in her doorway

Tealpoppy · 29/09/2022 22:04

Just remembered another one

I’m going back 15+ years and my ex was married to another lady

they wanted a baby together (she had two,and he didn’t have any)

anyway, they tried and tried-no luck at all-and for some reason he went to see a psychic

she told him she could see an older lady-and this lady was holding a baby in a blue blanket-she wasn’t ready to hand him over just yet,but she would one day

she also said this baby would be his last, but his wife would have two more kids

he laughed-they’d been trying for 6 years and where no closer to having one and where happily married

about a year later, she started to feel a bit sick and did a test-postive

they went on to have a baby boy and counted their blessings

5 years or so slid past, when their son was playing on the floor-he suddenly looked up and said ‘I loved being with great granny-i love her,but I love being with you too dad,I’m glad she handed me over’

he was stunned to say the least

his marriage broke up not long after-and his ex went on to have two more dc

Another time, then, @Qisk , don’t state your own opinions as if they were facts.

OldTinHat · 29/09/2022 22:10

I could tell dozens of experiences! Here's a couple, think I've shared them here before though...

A castle in East Sussex when my DC were pre schoolers, we visited with exH. We'd went in just as they opened and a staff member shut the door and then let DS1 turn the key and let us through the keep. He loved that! DC were with their dad in the central part and I'd just wandered off into one of the towers and was looking up, admiring the architecture. DS2 ran up to me and tugged at my hand, held it, tugged for attention, I said something along the lines of 'isn't this amazing DS' as I was still gawping upwards, he tugged on my hand again, I looked down. There was no DS, he was with his brother and dad in the courtyard.

A castle built by Henry VIII in Cornwall. Again with DC but they were teenagers but we were visiting with friends. Never been to the castle before, didn't have a guide book, knew nothing about it. We were all mooching about, went down into one room and I felt absolutely awful, like I would die if I didn't get out. Yelled at DC to get out, randomly shouted there would be an explosion, we all fell out and out friends looked at me like I was a lunatic. Caught out breath outside just as a tour guide came round the corner with a group of people - '...and this used to be a munitions store in WWII but there was a terrible accident when it exploded and one man died...'. Friends gawped at me, DC just rolled their eyes and said, yeah, mum is odd like that!

But so, so many things I can't explain. It's fascinating though. Like others have said, time overlaps maybe or just picking up on recordings, past emotions. Who knows!

OldTinHat · 29/09/2022 22:13

Oooh terrible grammar there! You know what I mean though!

Now you are getting silly. Read your post above. One could say you presented your three main paragraphs as facts. But I did not read them that way and I am sure nobody else on this thread did.

There are 8 billion (*) people on this planet and each of us are the same and yet different. We all have different experiences and they are all right at the same time. Factual? Who is to say.

(*) - I have not counted every one of them, just a figure I got of the internet. I could be wrong of course.

Whylurkwhenicanjoinin · 30/09/2022 10:31

I’ve posted this before on here but for those who missed it.
My DS and her DH’s family home is one of a row of terraced cottages, old farm worker cottages, from the early 1800s and when he lived at home her eldest DC saw an old lady walking up the stairs on a number of occasions. He only ever saw her as a reflection in the mirror on the landing as he was coming out of his bedroom and she wouldn’t be visible when he looked over the bannister. As well as this, all the family had experienced voices, being touched, cupboards being opened etc but nothing that worried them unduly.
A few years later, both DC’s had moved out and got married, I called in to see her briefly and had a friend with me who came in with me rather than sit in the car (the reason she was with me is convoluted and not really relevant and she and my DS didn’t even know each other existed until this time) and while I was in the kitchen and my DS had popped to her garage to get something, my friend said hello to an old lady walking across the lounge toward the stairs…..she didn’t reply, just kept on walking until she disappeared up the stairs! I came out of the kitchen to be asked if my grandmother lived with my DS. I said no, so she said “oh is it her DH’s grandmother then?” and went on to tell me about the old lady she’d just seen. Freaked us right out, she was as solid as you or I apparently and refused to believe she wasn’t real! This was in the middle of the afternoon.
There is also a man that sometimes visits the bedroom in the cellar but that’s for another time.

lilroo87 · 30/09/2022 10:36

Not me but people around me.

When I was a kid my brother said he saw a figure walk into my bedroom. At first he thought it was me but when he called my name the figure didn't respond and he said it thought it actually looked like a little boy.

About a month ago my DP woke on the night and said he saw an old woman holding a baby standing over our DD's cot looking in. When he sat up she was gone but it freaked him out and he panicked about our DD but she was asleep in her cot

You were definitely asleep, or in that drowsy state between sleep and awake. I get hallucinations/dreams like this when I take sleeping tablets. Scary but not real.

SirCharlesRainier · 30/09/2022 10:47

Depends on how you intend the question.

If it's as in "have YOU seen a ghost" - then no.

If it's as in "has ANYONE ever seen a ghost" - also no.

KangFang · 30/09/2022 10:48

Yes, I have unfortunately.
It has made me question a lot of things since.

BrinaT · 30/09/2022 10:56

No, but I know people who have.

Whylurkwhenicanjoinin · 30/09/2022 10:58

To add to my post above, as a PP said earlier, I believe the old lady that's been seen is a recording. It would appear that the image of her is walking across the lounge and up the stairs is somehow connected to the fabric of the house.

I stayed at a friend's house a few years ago and a cat got up onto the spare bed with me and snugged down in the crook of my knee, got up and switched on the light and I was alone. Id love to think our pets are still around.

Kiktikat · 30/09/2022 10:58

In answer to your question no, no one has seen a ghost, because they don’t exist

Kumri · 30/09/2022 11:06

I’m not sure. In general I don’t believe in ghosts, not spirits that wander the world for decades chatting to people, anyway. But Buddists believe that after someone dies, their soul can hang around familiar places and people, disorientated for a while, before it goes where it’s going, and I do wonder if there’s something to that, because…

I was on holiday, DH was at home with dog. Walking through a room thinking about something else, out of the corner of my eye I saw my dog curled up on the floor, snoozing. Carried on walking out the room then thought whaaaaaaast and dashed back to look. No sign of dog, obviously.

Phone then rang, was DH to say the dog has just died. I said erm yeah I know, I just saw her on her way out.

It was kinda nice, I didn’t feel very sad as the dog didn’t feel dead, just gone elsewhere after a quick ‘thanks for all the food, bye’.

LadybirdsAreNeverHappy · 30/09/2022 11:12

Shortly after we moved into our house, I got up one morning with my toddler and dh stayed in bed. In the downstairs bathroom I was washing my hands with the door open and I thought my dh had gotten up after all because I could have sworn he walked by the bathroom door. I was looking at my hands but in my peripheral vision I saw a man pass by in the mirror above the sink. I heard footsteps and felt a slight breeze same as if it was real. It turned out he was still in bed, hadn’t gotten up. It was really creepy but what I think happened was my brain played a trick on me, I thought I heard someone coming and my mind filled in all the blanks with what it anticipated would happen. I was extremely sleep deprived. I’ve never had such a strong impression of something happening that didn’t so basically it was an hallucination. It was not a nice feeling anyway.

I find it interesting when people say they’ve seen a ghost and are able to describe their clothes. OP, you said the flapper woman was sleeping in a headband which nobody would normally do. Do you think ghosts wear the same clothes every time they appear in every situation regardless of what they’re doing?

Creepywoo22 · 30/09/2022 12:38

When I was young in my childhood home you'd often see shadow figures. I once heard footsteps same time as my mum when nobody was there going up the stairs. My mum, sister and I all saw one of the previous occupants a few times, an old man in braces.

I also had a creepy workplace as a cleaner, a school. Never saw anything but heard a few stories and definitely felt watched from certain areas.

I think one of my most favourite stories on here was the user who when a teen was home alone petting the cat on the stairs and a bloke walked up the stairs right past her. She rightfully was petrified 😖

sparklecement · 30/09/2022 12:50

Not outright but I am aware of someone/shadows in my living room at home. DH has sensed it too.

mistyc · 30/09/2022 13:06

I've name changed to post. Most experienced I read about on here over the years can be explained, in my opinion. My favourite are the time 'slips' I think.

I visited ruins of an abbey and heard monastic chants and a strong smell of lavender. I put that one down to a vivid imagination and daydreaming!

The only other experience is on rare occasions (night hikes) seeing a will o' the wisp. Unsettling for people seeing one for the first time.

NooNooHead1981 · 30/09/2022 13:09

@NoOnKnows but I know that I wasn't asleep when I saw her. I had been trying to get to sleep and was feeling pretty anxious, more in a state of fight or flight than relaxed.

OP posts:
blockpavingismynightmare · 30/09/2022 13:14

I have worked in lots of old people's homes where there were supposedly ghosts which had been seen by staff. These were always really old buildings and spooky on the landings at night and yet I never saw a thing or felt anything ever.
I also cleaned in some houses that were built from old farm buildings and the residents told me they had seen or felt things. I was in these places alone and never ever felt uncomfortable in any way.

When our house was having work done we moved out and rented as the place was like a building site.
One day I went home with my daughter to have a look at the work when she saw our next door neighbour on the landing and it scared her. She was about 14.
He had died a year or two before and someone else had bought his house.
I never saw a thing.

She is not the sort of person to make things up or get silly like that. She did not say anything until later and would not have told me if I had not asked her to come with me again later to see how the work was progressing.
When the work was completed and we moved back she was uncomfortable being there alone and relieved when we eventually sold the place.
