The Queens funeral

This is a real good guide for all the timings for tomorrow - www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-60617519

The bit at the end with the Lord Chamberlain will be the hardest to watch I think, signaling the end of his service to her, as will the act of separating her from her crown.

I know everyone isn't a royalist but today will be such a sad occasion.

MN is so depressing sometimes. What should be a nice respectful thread descending in to the usual bickering. Do we need to be discussing diversity targets for a funeral? And making personal comments about grieving relatives is so distasteful

Well said.

Regarding Edinburgh, I thought there would be many 'Operations' eg, one for Wales (another mainland one), One for NI (involving flight) and many overseas ones.

There were - or should I say are, as they’ll now relate to the King instead

Harry and Meghan could have had the children flown over to them if they were missing them though couldn’t they.

Yeah, you're so right. Clearly can't be missing them at all Hmm

littlbrowndog · 19/09/2022 11:46

Love divine. Beautiful

MrsLargeEmbodied · 19/09/2022 11:46

I read Megan mother was bringing them

stillherenow · 19/09/2022 11:46

They've picked nice hymns

Anyone else notice how incredibly white it all is? Of all the sailors round her coffin only one wasn’t shiny white, one adult in the choir, one boy, head church honcho; shiny white. Thank goodness for the baroness, fabulous speaking voice.
The irony of all the commonwealth representatives , the former colonies, seeing that when it gets to the top, shiny white prevails.
As a white Brit, I find it embarrassing.

Well given that we have all been well educated in recent years about how Britain was built on slavery and colonialism, then I'd imagine it would be difficult to serve a family whose ancestors had enslaved yours.

LondonWolf · 19/09/2022 11:46

Are you noticing that 14% are among the great and the good, the armed forces and the clergy?

Why would you expect to see them in the clergy? Wouldn't it be likely many would have their own religions and customs? Why would you want them to adhere to ours? Remember we used to do that - force other cultures to conform to ours, and it didn't end well.

Agree, any negative comments are disrespectful on this thread today.

I'm not a massive royalist but I don't like how some people love an argument even in such circumstances.

XXV · 19/09/2022 11:47

@KermitlovesKeyLimePie I like it - I think it's more personal. I reckon that's why they've done it, even though the pink clashes, and white would have been more 'classy' (for want of a better word). I feel she would have liked it.

HeidiWhole · 19/09/2022 11:47

The little chorister with the red curls is adorable

FuzzyPuffling · 19/09/2022 11:47

I think some of the roses in the wreath are "Queen Elizabeth" and others are "Platinum Jubilee". I do hope so.

(My own "Queen Elizabeth" rose has unexpectedly thrown up a new flower bud this week)

KosherDill · 19/09/2022 11:47

Surely this isn't the end?

I agree

anotherscroller · 19/09/2022 11:47

I find it awe-inspiring how hardly anyone is crying. I only saw Prince Edward cry.
I’m a Republican and I cried just because of the music and the solemnity.

Thinking about the cheers before, will there be cheers or applause when the coffin goes past the crowd?

Will it be a respectful silence or applause for her service?

Flowersintheattic57 · 19/09/2022 11:47

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 19/09/2022 11:45

I don’t see why it’s any different to commenting on outfits, paper on the floor, spiders, slightly stale looking wreath, enough hankies, number of children etc.

Why is it a stupid hat on Charlotte. She looks super smart

Absolutely. She probably chose it herself. She looks lovely.

ApolloandDaphne · 19/09/2022 11:48

KermitlovesKeyLimePie · 19/09/2022 11:44

Probably just me, but I'm not a fan of that wreath.

The bits of Scottish (presumably) spruce/pine whatever looks threadbare like they've got it off last year's Christmas tree with half the needles missing.

I love it. It is exactly the kind of flowers I like. Simple garden flowers. Beautiful.

Sunbird24 · 19/09/2022 11:48

I read somewhere that The Queen planned the service and she was adamant it shouldn’t be too long or boring

I hope people will have the decency to not cheer.

HeidiWhole · 19/09/2022 11:48

Will they have to carry her all the way back down that long aisle? I wish they would find a shorter route, I'm not sure my nerves can take it again!

Bouledeneige · 19/09/2022 11:49

I think the wreath is beautiful
