The Queens funeral

This is a real good guide for all the timings for tomorrow - www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-60617519

The bit at the end with the Lord Chamberlain will be the hardest to watch I think, signaling the end of his service to her, as will the act of separating her from her crown.

I know everyone isn't a royalist but today will be such a sad occasion.

@KenAdams that’s good thanks for the info

I think The Queen saw Boris out intentionally

I thought this too.

I actually feel sorry for H&M, they flew over to do one thing then HMQ died meaning everything’s gone to pot, they’ve not seen their DC in over a wee. Meghan looks out of place a bit. Beatrice looks very upset bless her mascara running must be awkward for them both

Then she shouldn't be wearing mascara, should she?

Rainbunny · 19/09/2022 11:41

Not sure what "shiny white" is supposed to mean but somehow it really doesn't sound like a compliment, in fact it sounds like a put-down. Rather than focusing on (and sneering at) the immutable characteristics of people on this solemn occasion, why not focus on the excellent performance of duties by all the people involved, which is why I suspect they were chosen for their various roles.

She's the Secretary General of the Commonwealth of Nations. She was the first black woman to be appointed Queen's Counsel. I met her at a college dinner shortly afterwards in the early 90s. I don't think she cared for the "first" label, judging by our conversation. Hugely impressive woman.

Yes, very impressive!

Why would you be embarrassed, we are a majority white country by a huge margin 86% of the population is white.

Are you noticing that 14% are among the great and the good, the armed forces and the clergy?

My apologies to those (like me) who are watching the funeral in awe but I can’t let this comment by a poster go….

They just need to act better……….

so, white working class boys need to just work harder and they too will be successful and get better grades at school eh?

anyway, back to the touching funeral……..

Surely that was sarcasm?!

MrsLargeEmbodied · 19/09/2022 11:42

thank you @Zosime google didnt tell me that

Hollyhead · 19/09/2022 11:42

Harry and Meghan could have had the children flown over to them if they were missing them though couldn’t they.

Shoot me down but Boris would have done a great reading.

As much as it pains me to say it… I totally agree with you

LIZS · 19/09/2022 11:42

TugboatAnnie · 19/09/2022 11:39

On the other hand, women are prominent in the service.

Was just thinking the same. Clergy and in senior political roles.

JustLyra · 19/09/2022 11:42

I just keep thinking about the security aspect.

all our royals. Kings & Queens from so many places. World leaders. Most of our government.

Its amazing

Newpuppymummy · 19/09/2022 11:42

I wonder what would have happened if she died in peak covid days

GyozaGuiting · 19/09/2022 11:43

@bellac11 that’s true, when I was in the armed forces I did work with a very diverse work force, especially when we were overseas! It’s a great social mobility tool as well. But yes there will be a lot of diversity amongst them all.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 19/09/2022 11:43

yes, thank goodness that didnt happen @Newpuppymummy

elizaregina · 19/09/2022 11:44

Just Lyra, thanks.

littlbrowndog · 19/09/2022 11:44

That was a lovely reading

She was an amazing speaker.
Haven’t been able to focus on anyone else since her.

ShirleyPhallus · 19/09/2022 11:44

MN is so depressing sometimes. What should be a nice respectful thread descending in to the usual bickering. Do we need to be discussing diversity targets for a funeral? And making personal comments about grieving relatives is so distasteful

TugboatAnnie · 19/09/2022 11:44

Regarding Edinburgh, I thought there would be many 'Operations' eg, one for Wales (another mainland one), One for NI (involving flight) and many overseas ones.

KermitlovesKeyLimePie · 19/09/2022 11:44

Probably just me, but I'm not a fan of that wreath.

The bits of Scottish (presumably) spruce/pine whatever looks threadbare like they've got it off last year's Christmas tree with half the needles missing.

It truly is.
I'm in awe of the organisation and security, the pomp, the spectacle.
Nobody does it like the British. Truly special.
I'm not British.

QuebecBagnet · 19/09/2022 11:44

Is there guidance on male attire? Some of the ex prime ministers were in “tails” and some in ordinary suits.

BlueEyedcat · 19/09/2022 11:45

LemonsOnSaleAgain · 19/09/2022 11:41

I thought this too.

I agree, I have often heard that people will wait till they have done everything they feel they need to. I think she wanted to wait till Boris had gone and H and M were here
