This is a real good guide for all the timings for tomorrow - www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-60617519

The bit at the end with the Lord Chamberlain will be the hardest to watch I think, signaling the end of his service to her, as will the act of separating her from her crown.

I know everyone isn't a royalist but today will be such a sad occasion.

I've not found any of it especially emotional but the moment of silence when they "loaded" (sorry that's a clumsy word for it) the coffin on the gun carriage in total silence bar the bell toll, and then the pipers starting and the navy started marching, was the moment that got me

The coffin bearers looked so calm. I can hardly look when they do stairs!

As an aside, anyone know how the crown and orb stay in place? I got especially stressed out when I saw they were going along what looked like cobbled Street!

hamstersarse · 19/09/2022 11:49

I think the service men and women are doing a marvellous job. So fantastic to see young people performing such duty.

mind you, I have boys of similar age to the pallbearers and if I was a parent of one of them I would have to be sedated because of the fear of them dropping the coffin. Ewwwww imagine.

I love those flowers.

Sunbird24 · 19/09/2022 11:49

Oh, we’re getting close to the Last Post…

LetMeSpeak · 19/09/2022 11:49

One of my friends asked if the little ginger boy in the choir was Archie 😂

ElectedOnThursday · 19/09/2022 11:49

Can you imagine behind the scenes? The polishing of the shoes, the cars, the sweeping of paths, the cleaning of facades, the practice runs for marching, the service rehearsals. The haircuts! I swear every rating had a fresh buzz cut.

NashvilleQueen · 19/09/2022 11:50

The choir has been simply outstanding.

Bouledeneige · 19/09/2022 11:50

Also I thought the sprigs in the wreath were rosemary not pine.

Camilla looks like she’s dozing off to sleep.

I think she was trying to hold it together actually. She looks very upset.

I find it awe-inspiring how hardly anyone is crying. I only saw Prince Edward cry.
I’m a Republican and I cried just because of the music and the solemnity.

I think Beatrice also had her hanky out at one point

My apologies to those (like me) who are watching the funeral in awe but I can’t let this comment by a poster go….

They just need to act better……….

so, white working class boys need to just work harder and they too will be successful and get better grades at school eh?

anyway, back to the touching funeral……..

To just address this comment, yes is the answer

There is a huge issue with white working class boys and the cultural rhetoric in some families that education isnt important or too cool for school type of views. Hence there are poor outcomes in education for that demographic, its a big problem

MrsFezziwig · 19/09/2022 11:50

I sing in a choir and was hoping to join in some of the singing (don’t worry, I live alone!) but can’t get the words out 😥

Planning for the bbc. Although it was part of the plan, the bbc had it as a less likely scenario and therefore weren't as prepared and it meant they had to do more outside broadcasts, outside London. Just getting their people there made in more difficult (they have to get in from around the country as the London crews were busy too). Plus there's stuff like giving footage to international broadcasters. The logistics the entire week has been insane. Some staff have not had a day off and have been doing insanely long hours.

Not exactly what the BBC needed in a Eurovision year, though they will get some money from international broadcasters for the feed. The cost is something they can ill afford.

But yes, whilst I know some of you are critical, what they have pulled off is nothing short of heroic at times.

We do have the BBC in Scotland you know? And you know what’s they also broadcast live too.

There is also an airport about 20/25 minutes from St Giles Cathedral.

MinglingFlamingo · 19/09/2022 11:50

KosherDill not quite still have 2 hymns a blessing and the national anthem to go get.

For anyone who's interested the order of service is on the bbc website

It's embarrassing that some people can't even show respect during a funeral to not comment crap like that.

Noooo! That sets me off every year at the Remembrance parades!

"Love divine. Beautiful"

Great choice, what a lovely hymn. Comforting somehow

The Orb is fixed to the coffin, I think? It looks like there is a stand for it.

I thought the same, she looks as though she is struggling very mych

I don’t see why it’s any different to commenting on outfits, paper on the floor, spiders, slightly stale looking wreath, enough hankies, number of children etc.

Really? Well that is clearly the difference between you and I. Knowing when to cease and desist is the key.

BruceAndNosh · 19/09/2022 11:51

Everyone leaving the Abbey is going to take forever.
It was nice to see some of many women doing readings

Me too. I just can't see how they do it. As soon I get even the slightest welling up, my nose pours and everything.

I wonder if Xanax or something can take the edge off it, just enough to help you cope better with it. I'd want to be able to pay attention to the service and so on without constantly crying. I don't mean bottling it up and not expressing emotion at all, but just getting it back to normal levels. Maybe there is something that helps.

And I'd need boxes of tissues not just a little hanky

Regarding Edinburgh, I thought there would be many 'Operations' eg, one for Wales (another mainland one), One for NI (involving flight) and many overseas ones.

No, operation Unicorn for Scotland. London Bridge for England and Wales. Operation Overstudy for death overseas.

Not sure about NI whether it would be treated as overseas due to the need for a flight or London Bridge as it is part of the UK.
