The Queens funeral

This is a real good guide for all the timings for tomorrow - www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-60617519

The bit at the end with the Lord Chamberlain will be the hardest to watch I think, signaling the end of his service to her, as will the act of separating her from her crown.

I know everyone isn't a royalist but today will be such a sad occasion.

Anyone else notice how incredibly white it all is? Of all the sailors round her coffin only one wasn’t shiny white, one adult in the choir, one boy, head church honcho; shiny white. Thank goodness for the baroness, fabulous speaking voice.
The irony of all the commonwealth representatives , the former colonies, seeing that when it gets to the top, shiny white prevails.
As a white Brit, I find it embarrassing.

No. Stop being divisive on such a day.

It's rather frustrating that the quote marks on this thread aren't working. Just me or is anyone else having the same issue

Yep - same issue here on app

sweetkitty · 19/09/2022 11:39

I actually feel sorry for H&M, they flew over to do one thing then HMQ died meaning everything’s gone to pot, they’ve not seen their DC in over a wee. Meghan looks out of place a bit. Beatrice looks very upset bless her mascara running must be awkward for them both

mostlydrinkstea · 19/09/2022 11:37

@HeidiWhole the Archbishop is wearing a black cope. It may be new but you would expect the abbey to have one in its vestment cupboard,

Thank you

Eastangular2000 · 19/09/2022 11:38

Why would you be embarrassed, we are a majority white country by a huge margin 86% of the population is white.

Well quite.

@Flowersintheattic57 I noticed some diversity, but you’re right not a lot. a few sailors, a few guards and and I think I spotted 4 RAF.

I was in the armed forces and was involved in diversity targets, in certain communities they’ve no interest in joining. Would have been nice to see more Gurkhas today, the queen was closely linked to them.

Theres more to diversity than colour surely?

There will be people of different religions, sexuality, social classes, hidden disabilities no doubt all involved today

The Pearl choker was the Queen’s

I think the dress is Alexander McQueen

TugboatAnnie · 19/09/2022 11:39

On the other hand, women are prominent in the service.

Sux2buthen · 19/09/2022 11:39

@SO224350 you're so wrong in so many ways but would not want to take away from the point of this thread

RAFOfficer · 19/09/2022 11:40

The gun carriage party will have been selected from a much larger pool to be all matched heights. To get the taller group to stand above the main party, either the majority are slightly below the average height for sailors, or the small group are significantly above.

Edinburgh also threw a huge spanner in the works

What do you mean?

Planning for the bbc. Although it was part of the plan, the bbc had it as a less likely scenario and therefore weren't as prepared and it meant they had to do more outside broadcasts, outside London. Just getting their people there made in more difficult (they have to get in from around the country as the London crews were busy too). Plus there's stuff like giving footage to international broadcasters. The logistics the entire week has been insane. Some staff have not had a day off and have been doing insanely long hours.

Not exactly what the BBC needed in a Eurovision year, though they will get some money from international broadcasters for the feed. The cost is something they can ill afford.

But yes, whilst I know some of you are critical, what they have pulled off is nothing short of heroic at times.

I am watching on Sky News after I found the BBC coverage of Edinburgh inane. However Sky is also now doing that annoying thing of interviewing the crowds.

Is anyone yet purely showing the arrivals at the Abbey?

I’ve found the interviews in the queue particularly tedious. Poor old Charlie Stayt asking the same questions and getting the same inarticulate non-answers from people who just want to be on telly.
Thank goodness we’re now into the proper magnificent ceremonial.

SpotOnMyBot · 19/09/2022 11:40

These readers are incredible - how they stand without even their hands shaking!

LetMeSpeak · 19/09/2022 11:40

@Flowersintheattic57 did a black person tell you this or is it all based on your feelings?

Ship · 19/09/2022 11:40

The baroness of Scotland (was that her name?) is an incredible speaker. Liz didn’t do too badly really. Glad it wasn’t boris! George and Charlotte are doing so well

Ship · 19/09/2022 11:40

Oh and the music is amazing. The choir boys are incredible

Hadn’t even considered this, how interesting.

some of the choir boys seem to be dressed as beefeaters

St George's Chapel choristers have a distinctive red uniform

Chaiandkaafee · 19/09/2022 11:40

My apologies to those (like me) who are watching the funeral in awe but I can’t let this comment by a poster go….

They just need to act better……….

so, white working class boys need to just work harder and they too will be successful and get better grades at school eh?

anyway, back to the touching funeral……..

MrsLargeEmbodied · 19/09/2022 11:41

I think The Queen saw Boris out intentionally

BitossiBlues · 19/09/2022 11:41

Maireas · 19/09/2022 11:18

Baroness Scotland. Beautiful voice.

She's the Secretary General of the Commonwealth of Nations. She was the first black woman to be appointed Queen's Counsel. I met her at a college dinner shortly afterwards in the early 90s. I don't think she cared for the "first" label, judging by our conversation. Hugely impressive woman.

Zosime · 19/09/2022 11:41

They are the Children of the Chapel Royal. Date from the 17th century, I think. There are also Gentlemen of the Chapel Royal. I haven't seen them today, but I expect they are there somewhere.

My brother was a Cathedral chorister from age 7 - full time boarding and also had to do extra weeks in the school holidays as well. Intense. He hated it.

That’s a shame because he was taking the place of someone who would have loved it. I would have, but obviously in my day they didn’t have girl choristers.

I think the people chosen have been selected for their rank and achievements, not the colour of their skin.
