This is a real good guide for all the timings for tomorrow - www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-60617519

The bit at the end with the Lord Chamberlain will be the hardest to watch I think, signaling the end of his service to her, as will the act of separating her from her crown.

I know everyone isn't a royalist but today will be such a sad occasion.

@Flowersintheattic57 I noticed some diversity, but you’re right not a lot. a few sailors, a few guards and and I think I spotted 4 RAF.

I was in the armed forces and was involved in diversity targets, in certain communities they’ve no interest in joining. Would have been nice to see more Gurkhas today, the queen was closely linked to them.

Also, choirboys are at Westminster Abbey school and practice all the time. It is their job from the age of 7 or 8, until their voices break around 12.

They work very hard. I was a cathedral chorister and was lucky enough to sing some services at Westminster in a relief choir for the regulars on their summer break. They are doing it day in and day out and from a very young age.

Bouledeneige · 19/09/2022 11:36

Lovely singing.

Vapeyvapevape · 19/09/2022 11:36

Anyone else notice how incredibly white it all is

No

Apart from the naval gun carriage team it seems very diverse. Most of the choristers are similar ages to George and Charlotte yet they do this sort of thing all the time. Some are Westminster choristers, others in red from the Chapel Royal.

PizzaFunghi · 19/09/2022 11:37

A good friend of mine was a chorister at Westminster Cathedral, not abbey, but similar, and absolutely loved it. It was totally his thing, and he couldn't have imagined not doing it. And it didn't seem like work to him. He still did other activities like cricket, loved being with the other boys at school etc.

XXV · 19/09/2022 11:37

My brother was a Cathedral chorister from age 7 - full time boarding and also had to do extra weeks in the school holidays as well. Intense. He hated it.

It's rather frustrating that the quote marks on this thread aren't working. Just me or is anyone else having the same issue

LetMeSpeak · 19/09/2022 11:37

Camilla looks like she’s dozing off to sleep.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 19/09/2022 11:37

some of the choir boys seem to be dressed as beefeaters

KenAdams · 19/09/2022 11:37

The gurkhas and mounties play a part later I understand.

@rocketfromthecrypt, but rank and achievements is correlated with sex and skin colour etc.

PizzaFunghi · 19/09/2022 11:37

I think it has to really suit the child. Some of them totally thrive. Others shouldn't be there if it isn't right for them

@KenAdams

Yes,, yes it will. For many of us who have live & respect and a sense of decency.

sadly it'll be minutes before the rude posters leap onto the thread to tell us why it's ridiculous & unimportant and attempt to belittle us.

The only one belittling and being rude here is you! Literally the 2nd post on a thread, accusing those who have a different point of view to you of being rude, and insinuating they are disrespectful and indecent. And then saying they’re jumping on the thread and being rude when you’ve done just that…🙄

I know! I was in Nigeria with a friend and noticed how incredibly black it all was.
As a black Nigerian, he found it embarrassing,

ArtixLynx · 19/09/2022 11:37

i used to be a chorister, and the practise we put in weekly was ridiculous, its a proper training camp type atmosphere.

There's not many that allow girls to sing, and i did audition for one of the cathedral choirs, but they decided i was just on the cusp of being too old for it (i was 12) but i kept singing with my Ecumenical Choir until i was 20, had all the medals (the ribbons/medals are RSCM exam awards basically). I have SO much respect for the westminster boys, they're a league all of their own.

mostlydrinkstea · 19/09/2022 11:37

@HeidiWhole the Archbishop is wearing a black cope. It may be new but you would expect the abbey to have one in its vestment cupboard,

dubyalass · 19/09/2022 11:38

Welby might as well have pointed his finger at Johnson and Truss during that sermon: “you will be remembered for all the wrong reasons”. Good for him.

Wouldn't surprise me she's had a hell of a week.

I've also been wondering about Megan's wardrobe!

I suppose designer's come to her?
Her coat and hat are stunning,I just wish she had a broach or something sparkling.
Kate's choker looks stunning, also looks familiar?

The Pearl choker was the Queen’s

Anyone else notice how incredibly white it all is? Of all the sailors round her coffin only one wasn’t shiny white, one adult in the choir, one boy, head church honcho; shiny white. Thank goodness for the baroness, fabulous speaking voice.
The irony of all the commonwealth representatives , the former colonies, seeing that when it gets to the top, shiny white prevails.
As a white Brit, I find it embarrassing.

Why would you be embarrassed, we are a majority white country by a huge margin 86% of the population is white.

Flowersintheattic57 · 19/09/2022 11:38

rocketfromthecrypt · 19/09/2022 11:34

I think the people chosen have been selected for their rank and achievements, not the colour of their skin.

Exactly

Oh my god, there’s always one wanting to be offended! There have been two women speakers of colour so far ffs, what exactly do you want?!
