The Queens funeral

This is a real good guide for all the timings for tomorrow - www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-60617519

The bit at the end with the Lord Chamberlain will be the hardest to watch I think, signaling the end of his service to her, as will the act of separating her from her crown.

I know everyone isn't a royalist but today will be such a sad occasion.

Might be the only way the could have them placed as well as all the guests. They need to be able to see the choir master.

It looks the the pews on the right have mourners in them but I can't see the ones on the left.

Seeing everyone sat in the lit up pews has made me think of that photo of the queen all on her own at her husbands funeral during lockdown. Heartbreaking.

I did wonder during lockdown when Philip died what would happen if the Queen died too.

PizzaFunghi · 19/09/2022 11:21

The red choirboys probably have to stand there to see the conductor as if they faced front, they wouldn't see him as they're so close. The ones in the actual choir stalls have a longer view. I think some of the boys are from another choir not just the abbey (st James I think)

Why were the news commentators on the BBC saying the hymns were going to be happy. These hymns have just made me cry the whole way through. I don’t know how the royal family is holding it in.

Probably all cried out .

ShirleyJackson · 19/09/2022 11:22

Liz Truss.

Time for a pee.

Simonjt · 19/09/2022 11:22

Truss is a terrible public speaker, that on top of little practice as well

Those little children! They have brought tears to my eyes and I am not really a great fan of the Monarchy.

My 10yo nephew read a poem mu mum had written at her funeral.

Kids can be surprising creatures at times - I couldn't even breathe let alone speak!

Liz Truss.

Time for a pee.

2anddone · 19/09/2022 11:22

Fuck sake here comes truss time for a wee!

PizzaFunghi · 19/09/2022 11:22

And yes the front row of choir stalls will have a bench just not the shelves and lights and candles and stuff

FoolishMortals · 19/09/2022 11:22

Watching Liz and said to DH, "she's doing a really good job with that reading... can you imagine Boris rambling through that?"

I feel for Liz too - she's had a hard first 2 weeks in the job!

Lovely reading though

I can’t stop thinking about that bit of paper. Omg

Maybe the spider dropped it?

I believe the final hymn is "Christ is made the sure foundation" which is fairly uplifting. (and contains the words "consubstantial, co-eternal" which is my favourite phrase in a hymn ever)

Sunbird24 · 19/09/2022 11:23

Argh, that moving camera shot made my head go wibbly then

LandofZog · 19/09/2022 11:23

How ironic, a royal hater speaking at the funeral of the queen. (Truss)

bellac11 · 19/09/2022 11:23

I wouldnt want to read out passages with thees and hath, thy, its difficult to say

TugboatAnnie · 19/09/2022 11:23

Thank goodness it was Liz and not Boris.

Rainbunny · 19/09/2022 11:23

Wow is Truss bad at public speaking.

Oblomov22 · 19/09/2022 11:23

The whole thing is beautifully done. We've done ourselves proud, as British, and to her.

She’s fine isn’t she

No wobbles, clearly spoken

It hadn't occurred to me before, but I'm now annoyed that the law change wasn't backdated. Princess Anne would make for a wonderful Queen, and she's so low down the order of succession. She's been incredibly dignified throughout everything.

Charles is older

She did it better than I expect Boris would have managed. He would have been umming and ahhing

SoupDragon · 19/09/2022 11:05

There's a spider on the flower card!

Charles's spider writing maybe?

cakeorwine · 19/09/2022 11:24

This could have been Boris doing this.
