The Queens funeral

This is a real good guide for all the timings for tomorrow - www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-60617519

The bit at the end with the Lord Chamberlain will be the hardest to watch I think, signaling the end of his service to her, as will the act of separating her from her crown.

I know everyone isn't a royalist but today will be such a sad occasion.

What a time to be one of the Abbey's choir boys

Very striking looking woman, doing the reading.

Baroness Scotland. Beautiful voice.

TockClicking · 19/09/2022 11:19

Doesn't anyone know why the young choir boys are stood in the aisle? Looks like they ran out of seats (which I know is not the answer!)

Goingcrazzy · 19/09/2022 11:19

That's Baroness Scotland, used to be an Attorney General, I think.

TockClicking · 19/09/2022 11:19

does

Jellykat · 19/09/2022 11:19

Love their little red jackets

powershowerforanhour · 19/09/2022 11:19

"Seeing everyone sat in the lit up pews has made me think of that photo of the queen all on her own at her husbands funeral during lockdown. Heartbreaking."

"The day thou gavest. My dad's favourite hymn. He died last year"
When they started singing that and the camera was on the family from Charles and Anne down to wee George I had to bolt out of the room. The memory of the funerals of my mum, dad, uncle and grandparents all kind of rolled into one. They'd all had their time and none of their deaths was utterly tragic but still...it's hard.

bellac11 · 19/09/2022 11:19

She was the commonwealth secretary, saw her interviewed a lot

Sunbird24 · 19/09/2022 11:19

There’s all sorts of symbolism associated with spiders which no doubt will be picked up in tomorrow’s papers

Rapidtango · 19/09/2022 11:19

Borris, the reading was beautiful and beautifully done.

@KenAdams

Yes,, yes it will. For many of us who have live & respect and a sense of decency.

sadly it'll be minutes before the rude posters leap onto the thread to tell us why it's ridiculous & unimportant and attempt to belittle us.

You are belittling those that don't find it sad by suggesting they don't have respect and a sense of decency. I don't find it sad that someone lived a full life. Death is a natural process and comes to us all. I've made no belittling comments but you have.

MenopauseSucks · 19/09/2022 11:19

I guess the orb, sceptre & crown are facing the altar as HMQ being the former Head of CofE plus her coronation being in the abbey which is why we're just seeing the flowers?

MrsTimRiggins · 19/09/2022 11:17

Hiding? They’re doing a terrible job if so… what with being in the front row and all!

Perfect moment for a close up!

herecomesthsun · 19/09/2022 11:20

Well read the first reader

Vapeyvapevape · 19/09/2022 11:20

This just stunning

A couple of those bearers look quite emotional.

Proud emotion i would imagine as well carrying their "bosses" coffin.

They are a huge part of history now as well this as this present.

What a proud moment for them all - a MASSIVE responsibility on young shoulders - and something to be able to share with future children or grandchildren if they have them.

It's literally a life changing moment for them in front of the whole world.

That's what's setting my emotion off. Watching these people do our country proud.

Vapeyvapevape · 19/09/2022 11:20

*is just stunning

Pyjamagame · 19/09/2022 11:20

Might be the only way the could have them placed as well as all the guests. They need to be able to see the choir master.

KenAdams · 19/09/2022 11:20

The shots from above are making me motion sick.

Why were the news commentators on the BBC saying the hymns were going to be happy. These hymns have just made me cry the whole way through. I don’t know how the royal family is holding it in.

Rainbunny · 19/09/2022 11:21

I must be blind, stupid piece of paper caused my brain to shut down temporarily!

I do like Baroness Scotland's speaking voice, she has gravitas. Isn't she the head os the Commonwealth that Boris Johnson hated and tried to get shoved out of her role when he was PM? Glad to see she outlasted him, she must have enjoyed his demise...

Travelledtheworld · 19/09/2022 11:21

@AMessageToYouRuby yes there is a standard format for Church of England funerals. Catholic church will be different. Just Google "order of service for funerals". You can also have a Humanist funeral which is non religious.

MarshaBradyo · 19/09/2022 11:21

The colours are really something - all the religious robes

There's little benches for them to sit on. Then they stand to sing.

Toddlerteaplease · 19/09/2022 11:21

The Sentence's were beautifully sung. Not impressed with the reader though. It's a beautiful passage, if read well.
