I was enjoying reading the other thread. If anyone wants to continue

Here's first thread:

Anyone joined the queue what's it like atm?

It's now saying the queue is closed

If the estimated time is 8 hours surely it must close shortly to be clear by 6:30.

We found the estimated time really inaccurate. It said up to 24 hours when we entered, but it took us 12.

God bless the Queue and all who travelled with her.

BlueBloodedBlue · 18/09/2022 23:16

Just been told no more wristbands will be given out. We were by HMS Belfast and apparently it closed about a mile ahead of us. We had only waited about a hour and knew we might be too late.

Hey ho at least we tried

Oh no really sorry you missed it. Were you not able to queue before today or was it a last minute decision?

toomuchlaundry · 18/09/2022 23:18

Will you hang around for the funeral now @BlueBloodedBlue?

Missed out on a wristband by about 50 people so on train home. I'd swithered about going up over the last three days and made a very last-minute decision to go up when the waiting time was down to 7 hours. Unfortunately, lots of people had the same idea!

No, strangely that doesn't appeal at all.

Must admit I'm a tiny bit relieved we're on our way home to a warm bed

I was on the steps when they changed the guard at 22:40. Felt incredible to witness such a special ritual. The atmosphere in there was indescribable.

Queued for about 9 hours in the end, crazy to think I left home 20 minutes after they first told people not to travel to join the queue, and they shut the queue just as I was coming out of Westminster Hall. Not the first time I’ve been glad I ignored official advice!

BlueBloodedBlue · 18/09/2022 23:29

How frustrating.
What time did you get there @SweetestThing ? Just wondering how late we were?

BlueBloodedBlue · 18/09/2022 23:33

Sorry, missed your question @Shiningstarr
I wanted to come earlier but was working and then looking after DH so my step-mum could come - which she did and loved it so I can enjoy it vicariously though her!!

EmmaH2022 · 18/09/2022 23:33

Oh dear
I was hoping for a closure time that meant no one in the queue would miss out, hence my 3pm estimate
so sorry to those in that position

ah well goodbye to the queue now for the funeral

SweetestThing · 18/09/2022 23:43

@BlueBlueBloodedBlue I joined the queue at about 9.30. frustrating to get so close but hey ho.

BlueBloodedBlue · 18/09/2022 23:46

Thsnks. So frustrating for you. Hope you don't have far to travel home.

Honeyroar · 18/09/2022 23:54

Whether you made it to see the coffin or not you paid your respects the minute you joined that queue.

Gennz18 · 19/09/2022 01:51

Every time I read anything about The Queue I get a bit misty eyed, almost more so than from all the other coverage of the Queen’s death. It feels like it represents the best of British - stoicism and “mustn’t grumble” and good humour through adversity. I just love that she has been honoured through something as quintessentially British as a queue. ❤️

DysonSphere · 19/09/2022 02:29

Well it's looking like they could possibly have let more people through as it seems to have either paused or ended.

You got the changing of the guard, how cool! We missed it.

I've been watching the live stream since 5:30 am (thanks glass recycling lorry) and they're still going through. Looks like will be right up to the wire. Hoping to see the last few go through. Also hoping I fall asleep again!

IdisagreeMrHochhauser · 19/09/2022 06:34

Last members of the public went through at 06:32 so that's pretty well judged queue management.
