Joined queue at 8.30. Stepped through the doors to the hall at 8.05. The time went really quickly. We had a family with a 2 year old in front of us. He stayed in the queue all day in and out of his pushchair and really enjoyed himself saying hello to all the emergency services vehicles and boats on the river. Bit tired now though. Thanks for all the support from the queuers who gave advice to me and good luck to those still in the queue. The feeling when you get in there is indescribable, so worth it.

Fabulous Squashed! Well done! People are saying they wouldn't queue (in the main queue) but I actually think it's a great part of the experience. I wish I could have done it. I regret not being physically able to.

@SquashedFlyBiscuits Well Done ! What memories.

I’d like to go but haven’t been able to earlier because of the DC. It’s too late to get the train up from where I live in Kent, my options are to leave now, drive 45 ish mins to one of the stations on the Brighton-Victoria Line and work my way to the queue from Victoria, or wait until the first train from home in the morning which would get to London Bridge at about 8:30. Any thoughts from anyone?

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 17/09/2022 23:39

I would go in the morning. It should take 11 hours from when you leave Southwalk Park.

Easier to get there from London Bridge unless you don't mind a pricey cab taking a wide detour?

EmmaH2022 · 17/09/2022 23:48

Though I thought trains from Brighton did run to LB. Haven't been for ages though. Was meant to go on a heatwave weekend but couldn't face it.

Ohhhh....for some reason I didn't think Jubilee had a night service.

I went via disabled access but I sort of wished it had been possible to see the hall from the stairs. I imagine you get a sweeping gaze of it all and more time to take it in as you descend the steps.

Must be grand the carved beams seem amazing. I looked up but it was over quickly

You are right - I was paused for a few minutes on the stairs for changing of the guards & the view of the whole room from there is pretty awesome:)

@AngeloMysterioso : Doubt you are reading right now, but I’d get them up early (now) & get in the queue early doors today (like 5/6am) as that’s seems also to be the fastest way

willowtree66 · 18/09/2022 04:31

We started queuing at 5pm yesterday and got in at 2.30am, so a 9.5 hour wait. Well worth it but my legs are shredded.

That would make a lot of sense, I just cant imagine otherwise how parents are managing 2/3/4 yr olds for 12 hours in an outdoor 5 mile queue. The babies in buggy’s would be easier to deal with then the slightly older but still way too young to walk that far for that long children.

I think some parents with young kids were using the accessible queue when I was there on Wed. If that carried on, might be one of the reasons the accessible queue has closed

I didn’t see any pushchairs in the ‘main’ queue but a few older kids - there are stairs but honestly 2 very small sets (like 10 steps in total)

Personally, I think there should have been different arrangements which prioritise those with medical needs (in the way that Blue Badge spaces are not used as parent & child parking etc), & then potentially arrangements for younger kids (but it’s not really a child centric activity, so not a priority vs the needs of mobility impaired etc)

Great to hear you got through ‘relatively ‘ swiftly @willowtree66

hope you have a smooth journey home

There are night tubes on Friday & Saturday

They closed the accessible queue yesterday. Not the main queue yet.

The accessible queue is closed

DysonSphere · 18/09/2022 09:11

Great @beccahamlet , is it moving along fairly quickly then?

@AngeloMysterioso Did you go/are you going?

They seem to have underestimated the number of people who'd come for both the accessible queue and the main queue, but whereas they could adapt the main queue by making four lanes, (you can imagine how long it would be without that adaptation) it was hard to adapt the accessible arrangements much once they had been put in place. It's a great shame.

But I guess you couldn't forsee the takeup would be this huge in such a once in a generation event.

I haven’t, I want to but woke up late and I reckon by the time I get there now (probably not before about 1pm) they’ll have shut the queue.

DysonSphere · 18/09/2022 10:32

@AngeloMysterioso I did the same on Friday, intended to get up at 4:30am and then fell asleep (I usually have terrible insomnia so it was ironic) ended up getting there when they closed the queue fortunately they opened it up again. But that was the access queue.

I personally would still give it go. But I can understand not wanting to travel to be disappointed. Parliament TV is great to watch (bloody addictive, I don't know why) or visiting Green Park later.

Yes, but for some reason I didn't think Jubilee was one of them, good thing it is with all this happening.

i still think Queue will close about 3. I doubt the bookies will be taking bets though 😂

EmmaH2022 · 18/09/2022 10:34

Hope it goes well becca and Angelo if you go.

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 18/09/2022 10:51

@beccahamlet I did The Queue yesterday. If it goes at the same speed as yesterday, you'll be at the Globe 2hrs after Tower Bridge. The toilets there are open for use and very clean so I would recommend. Then another 2hrs to get to the Southbank Centre and National Theatre and 4hrs after that Westminster Hall itself. The bit you have just done was the slowest yesterday morning. Loads to see now and places to get food and drink. Last chance for a coffee is a hut just before Lambeth Bridge.

After Lambeth Bridge there is a big snake in Westminster Gardens and explorer scouts keep offering you other people's unopened snacks that they had to abandon at security. There are plenty of portaloos here and water bottle filling stations. Takes a couple of hours to get through this bit.

I appreciate it is a slightly mad this to do but you won't regret it.
