What a woman, she is 72 years old !! I can’t believe how amazing she has been in the last few days.

I always knew she was the most hardworking royal , but this week she has been outstanding.

Another Anne fan here. And Zara. Bloody legends!

vera99 · 12/09/2022 21:54

She would have sorted out an extraneous inkpot without fuss. Sod the heritary principle.

riserved · 12/09/2022 21:54

Apparently she never did tell the press to 'Naff Orf'. The papers made that up because they couldn't print what she actually said. Grin

I think she was also given the Princess Royal title so that she was never outranked by new members like Diana, I could be wrong though, need one of our resident royal experts to confirm!

SwimmingFree · 12/09/2022 21:55

My sister met her too and said she was very funny and s really lovely, genuine person.

bbcdefg · 12/09/2022 21:55

I thought she looked very like her mother when she was in the back of the car following the hearse to Edinburgh.

The York sisters look a lot like Anne.

I don't see that at all. The York women look like their parents.
Zara looks like her mum.
I always think Anne looks a bit like Philip's mother, Princess Alice.

endlesscraziness · 12/09/2022 21:56

She's my favourite

She might outrank her brothers but she has never served in the military. Her rank was given to her by her mother I believe.

Same applies to Edward (left partway through training), and Andrew's rank on leaving the service (Commander) has been boosted by ranks awarded by his mum.

Heyyebskeikwbevg · 12/09/2022 21:57

Out of curiosity I once looked up the annual calendar of Royal engagements. Anne had more engagements than anyone else by a country mile. She often attended more than one a day - sometimes 3. Usually not glamorous.

This is the workaday life of a Royal and what the monarchy is built on. Getting out there and listening to ordinary folk. It obviously came as a surprise to Meghan who had assumed she’d get to do the fancy events that gets Catherine in the papers. I don’t blame Meghan for running a mile, it’s not how many people would wish to spend their life!

SomethingFast · 12/09/2022 21:58

She’s bloody awesome. Chip off the old block, reminds me very much of her dad.

I wouldn't say I was an expert, but the title Princess Royal did not adjust the ranking. She outranked Diana only when Charles wasn't present (women take their husband's rank when he is present).

Met her at rugby & a 3 day event. Lovely person, really knows her stuff on both rugby & horses!

asblindasabat · 12/09/2022 22:00

I would love to meet Anne. She seems down to earth. Would have loved to have met the Queen when she was in better health.

what an interesting conversation you would have had with her, im sure. Would have been fascinating

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 12/09/2022 22:01

Princess Royal is also a title that doesn't in anyway relate to the husband's title, and doesn't confer an equivalent on a husband. It also doesn't combine with married title so she is just HRH The Princess Royal, rather than HRH The Princess Anne, Mrs Mark Philips as she was prior to being made Princess Royal.

She is only the 7th Princess Royal ever.

Zib · 12/09/2022 22:01

I think she's awesome. And typical to make a massive step forward for equality in such an understated way - joining the procession behind the coffin and taking part in the vigil. Like her mother, her work ethic and sense of duty provide examples for us all.

Looks like she gets her hairstyle from her too!

Diana would only outrank her if she was with Charles. Anne is a princess of the blood royal.
(not that I agree with all this rank business but the order is precedence is fascinating!). In theory, if Camila is alone, despite being Queen consort, Anne outranks her due to being of Royal blood.

Maireas · 12/09/2022 22:02

Brilliant! If it ain't broke...

Twawmyarse · 12/09/2022 22:04

Falling down a rabbit hole of photos of royals when younger now - how much does Prince George resemble young Prince Philip!?

Honeyroar · 12/09/2022 22:06

I like her too. I met her 35 years ago, she was lovely, and beautiful (hidden behind frumpy clothes and hair!). Zara is getting more and more like her mother as she ages.

We were talking about the queen the other day and her love of horses/riding. I wonder if she would have been a top class equestrian like her daughter and grand daughter if her life hadn’t diverted into the role of queen? (obviously she was a great rider, I just wondered if she’d have competed).

augustusglupe · 12/09/2022 22:06

She's great. God yes, the kidnap story! I only heard about it all in full a while back when I was watching an old episode of Parkinson.
What a woman!!

Does anyone else remember seeing Princess Anne when she was on A Question of Sport on Emlyn Hughes’ team? Such a great sense of humour! Grin
