What a woman, she is 72 years old !! I can’t believe how amazing she has been in the last few days.

I always knew she was the most hardworking royal , but this week she has been outstanding.

Oh, didn’t know they still lived together. I wonder why?

The media treated Fergie in much the same way as they treated Meghan. Constantly compared her to Diana, criticised and ridiculed everything she did and so on. Eventually they "divorced"
With recent events I'm guessing Andrew's habits had something to do with it but I always got the impression that the divorce was more about Fergie quitting her "job" as a working royal and less about a marriage ending.
I think they've always stayed amicable to the point of being great mates though.

Rainbowcat99 · 16/09/2022 07:29

Plus of course we're talking about a 30 room mansion so presumably they have their own space. 😆

Dinoteeth · 16/09/2022 07:38

Andrew and Fergie went though a rocky patch, he was away a lot with the Navy. She got caught 'playing away' scandal of a toe sucking incident.

The divorce happened then they got back together. Now and then their is rumours of remarriage.

Meghan says it was at Fergies house she first met the Queen and it was Fergie who showed her how to curtesy.

@IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads
I wonder if I know your MiL! I also met Princess Anne at the Gloucestershire's WI Annual Meeting in the spring. She was VERY impressive and all of us who met her came away as fans.

Princess Anne met some “ Service Users” of a Charity a few years back - And they were impressed with Princess Anne’s down to Earthness as well.

I'd think she'd have some sort of kitchen staff, to keep the house stocked up, let's face it she isn't going round Tesco with her trolley.

I bumped into her at Gloucester service station on the m5. She was doing her grocery shopping. I didn't see her and we both reached for the same piece of cheese. She was very gracious and let me have it. Her security guard was hovering a few feet away. So she does do some of her own grocery shopping at least.
I was struck at how tiny she was. Very slim.

Dinoteeth · 16/09/2022 10:35

Thats quite funny her in the services doing mundane stuff like buying cheese. She was doing a tree plant for something near my mum a number of years ago and drove herself.

The other day when she was walking across the tarmac at northolt, whatever way the camera angle was I noticed how slender her legs were. Never noticed it before.

I just remember being so excited when she got married and trying to design a dress she might wear! Then I believe I remember our delightful press slagging her off - I think about the time Diana appeared on the scene and I think maybe they tried to create a rivalry? I think they said she was fuddy duddy , dreadful hair do etc. then for some reason she was suddenly in favour again. So manipulative. The press.

If I recall she did a huge and gruelling tour of the less photogenic regions of many African countries for Save the Children (I think) . The press pack who accompanied her were on their knees but she carried on, asked good questions, knew her stuff, listened to people on the ground who had the local knowledge, and didnt dress up in designer clothes or expect be photographed looking spotlessly clean with flattering back lighting . I think many journalists peoples view of her changed after that tour. She is/ was one tough lady.

Charles is having some (well deserved) time out today at Highgrove. Anne is on the move again visiting Glasgow and the Borders.

“Well deserved”. I am a bit shocked at him hiding away at Highgrove. Yes he has had a horrendous week, anyone who has lost a parent , and I have lost two, knows the absolute devastation, but to be brutal , if you want to accept a role like being King you can’t also decide that when things get too tough you will slope off to your country pile for a bit of me time. Especially not after only 6 days in the job. I am not saying he doesn’t need some consideration, but he has constitutional responsibilities now, and he could have had some breathing space from being on public view at Clarence House or Buckingham Palace without looking like a bit of an elderly snowflake. Sorry if this offends.

Ffs. Get over yourself.

he had one day to recover/reflect. He's off to Wales today.

He's just lost his mum and has to do the most public mourning ever. Give him a break!! Sheesh.

If he's not on view, or meeting the public, why does it matter which home he chooses?

And the choices are not extensive - he accepts the role of King, and all the ceremony and formalities that start hours after his mother's death... or abdicates and puts the responsibility on his son. Or decides to step down from public life...and that in itself is complicated, as we've seen from Harry...

Oh, didn’t know they still lived together. I wonder why?

Mark Philips continued to live on the Gatcombe estate for several years after he and Anne divorced. This continued after his remarriage although he subsequently moved to the USA.

I guess when you have a massive place it is easy enough to have your own space while being close for the kids. Especially if it is a relatively amicable split.

He has a small amount of time off before engagements in Wales. He's decided to "break the journey" by spending a night at Highgrove which is much much closer to Wales than London. It is a sensible choice given the grueling schedule he has had. 🙄

Dinoteeth · 16/09/2022 14:34

@viques I can't decide if your trying to wind people up or not. But I'll remind you the vast majority of people would be asking for a couple of weeks compassionate leave should their mother die.
He's been running around like a blue arsed fly since she died.

Arewerelated · 16/09/2022 14:40

I love Anne ❤️ I had the pleasure of spending a whole day with her for work and she was the hardest working lady. It was at the same event as Theresa may, who was flagging way before Princess Anne was.
She sat and drank tea with me and my colleagues and talked sausages, horse racing and children. Very quick witted and warm person

Does Anne and Tim have protection then? Guards outside the house? And Zara and and Peter? Do they have staff? And security staff for their every move ?

No. Anne only has protection when she's performing royal duties.

He was also taking calls from people like Biden and Macron and he had red boxes to get through. I think it was a day away from the public rather than a day away from work.

Just watched them take their places around the queens coffin and sobbed. I'm not normally this soft or into the royals but I caught this as I was changing channels.
I think I just feel incredibly sad that this is how they are having to grieve their mum.
Anne and Charles look bereft

JustLyra · 16/09/2022 20:01

It must be very bizarre for tbt children to watch to watch their grandparent take part in that

Not bothered about royals but Princess Anne is my secret favourite. Ever since she scandalised a tabloid by telling its smarmy reporter to 'Naff Orf". This was years ago, she was about 18 or so. I was massively impressed and my admiration for her hasn't wavered. I don't believe there's any situation she couldn't handle.

Inkanta · 16/09/2022 20:10

Yes have been watching. All the family watching too and people filing in quietly and respectfully.

Dave20 · 16/09/2022 21:04

I suppose the people that got in as the four royals were on vigil duty timed it well..

Sadly not. A guy got arrested around 10pm for getting too close to the coffin.

It was only quite recently that I found out that's not what she actually said!

The papers decided that the actual word was taboo, and that usual euphemisms (such as eff off) were still not appropriate, hence a new term, that wouldn't affect their gentler reader

In fairness to Theresa May, she is a diabetic.
