Washing machines - anyone have a Bosch or Miele?

Looking to get a new washing machine very soon and wanting to splash out on a bit more of an expensive one, anyone have a Miele or Bosch and can recommend?

The only thing putting me off Miele is I can't find any silver/graphite models - the fridge freezer is silver and not sure if a white washer would just look daft or out of place right next to it.

Any wisdom appreciated!

Can you have an integrated one? You'll need a spare cupboard door

Saucery · 12/09/2022 19:33

We’ve had Bosch for the last 2 machines, no problems. Think the latest one is about 5 years old and I’m pretty hard on washing machines (dog blankets, duvets, too many towels at once, trainers, dog leads in old pillow cases etc). I’ll go for a higher spin speed than 1200 next time but there is lots of flexibility for short or long cycles I.e. a 60 degree wash in just over an hour.

EluneBePraised · 12/09/2022 19:34

Integrated not really an option as the water inlet pipe for the house sits directly behind the washing machine but would have been a great idea!

We have a Bosch and I would recommend. Shortish run times, decent sized drum, copes with a a sporty family of 5 and is 5 years old and still going strong.

YouBoggleMyMind · 12/09/2022 19:36

Yes we have a Bosch serie 4 ecosilence and v happy with it.

OhLordyWhatNow · 12/09/2022 19:37

I have a Miele, it's over 16 years old.

Built like a tank, the only thing gone wrong/ replaced is the door rubber last summer (2021).

My Miele model is W3922 WPS, it's white with a silver shiny metal door. Still looks good and works perfectly even though it has had heavy use at times.

neverseethebollocks · 12/09/2022 19:38

We have a Miele it's nearly 15 years old but so is the Zanussi dryer, I think we might have had it fixed once but that was it.

Mosaic123 · 12/09/2022 19:38

I have an integrated Bosch, inherited with the flat and had a Miele (not integrated) in my previous residence for about 10 years

I brought my Miele with as I liked it so much. It's in the garage. Just waiting. I had it professionally disconnected so it wouldn't rust. Hoping one of my kids might want it.

The Bosch is fine but I preferred the Miele.

You can get sticky plastic (fridge coloured) to cut and then cover the whiteness of your new one .

I’m on my third Bosch in 17 years, the first was secondhand and lasted a couple of years, the next lasted around ten with a hard life. Current one shows no sign of giving up! I’d definitely recommend them, they spin really well and have 15 minute wash programs that I find handy. Also mine have been from the cheaper end of their range.

Roselilly36 · 12/09/2022 19:39

We bought Bosch 10kg washer dryer last year Series6 very good performance would recommend.

wonkylegs · 12/09/2022 19:39

We have a Bosch it's 14yrs old and still doing well. It's been a great machine.
It's not a massively fancy one, I have a bit of a mentality that, the more options it has the more there is to go wrong but it's not a basic one either.
We also have a Bosch heat pump dryer that is newer that is good too.
We have a Miele dishwasher that is fantastic but it was significantly more expensive.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 12/09/2022 19:40

I had a Miele that was 21 years old and never went wrong in all that time. I now have a Miele Twindos and I hate it, it needs more love and attention than a newborn baby, drives me mad.

sageandbasil · 12/09/2022 19:42

I have a Bosch and it's great. And so quiet!

BrownTableMat · 12/09/2022 19:43

I have a Bosch that’s eight years old and still working like new, never had any problems with it. Washing times are reasonable and there’s a 15 min cycle too. Top spin is 1400.

I go away regularly to a place that has a Miele and it’s also fab, but I’m not sure it’s worth the extra cost over the Bosch

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 12/09/2022 19:44

We've had 3 Bosches over 22 years. Tye first two each lasted 10 years, the current one packed up 1 year and 5 days after we got it, but they fixed in under warranty anyway, with no quibble at all. It was a software fault rather than a mechanical failure.

Buttons294749 · 12/09/2022 19:45

I love bosch
My last one was yeeeeeeears old and i only got rid of it because everything was starting to wear and replacing was not worth it. Really reliable

LynneBenfield · 12/09/2022 19:48

Both are good, reliable manufacturers. I’ve had 3 Bosch with a Samsung inbetween. The Bosch models do a good job of cleaning, are easy to use and have held up their own in the face of muddy kids, hairy & muddy dog & cat and their associated filth.

I stick to the more basic models to keep the cost down. It’s in the utility for me so doesn’t have to be a looker but I do need it to have a min 8kg drum, a range of spin speeds and a delicates function (or the ability to cold wash, low spin). Avoid the ones with a load of fancy programmes, apps and special features that cost you an arm and a leg but you don’t actually use and are incredibly expensive to fix when they go kaput.

Jules912 · 12/09/2022 19:48

I have a Miele and love it. Also I don't know what they put in that twindos detergent but it's amazing, gets more stains out far better than anything I've previously used.

isthismylifenow · 12/09/2022 19:49

I have a Miele but it's the white one, I think there was an option for the silver one when I got mine. My first one lasted 23 years. If you do go for a Miele, go for the entry level one. You don't need all this fancy auto dosing etc, mine has the standard pull out drawer so I can use powder or liquid.

I also have the stainless steel fridge and freezer, my washer and dryer are white. They are in the l section of my kitchen so it's not hugely noticable that they don't match perfectly. The silver was so much more expensive that the white.

Malbecfan · 12/09/2022 20:05

I have a Miele. It's 9 years old and brilliant. I have a holiday cottage next door so have all the bedding and towels for there and my Miele takes the lot. It's really quiet too. MiL lived in a retirement place with a communal laundry and all appliances were Miele. Bombproof. I definitely recommend them.

Fatballs · 12/09/2022 20:08

We have a Bosch that is at least 15 years old.

It washes.

DuneFan · 12/09/2022 20:10

My excellent Bosch series 6 recently died after 10 years and I replaced it with an astonishingly expensive Miele. Both are/were good. I hope the miele lasts forever so i get some value for money from it. Main difference ime is that it is lovely and quiet. The Bosch was quite rattly.

DuneFan · 12/09/2022 20:10

Ooh AND you can turn the beeps off on the miele. Extra points!

MarmiteCoriander · 12/09/2022 20:11

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor - What do you hate about the Miele twindos? I'd like to know what issues you have had, as looking at getting one. Can you use it with powder or pods, or ONLY with the auto dosing option?

Had bosch without issues for 6yrs now, but have recently moved. Complete renovation and looking at getting miele appliances.

wherearebeefandonioncrisps · 12/09/2022 20:15

I have an integrated Bosch. It's brilliant. No problems and has a great selection of programmes.
Washes brilliantly.

I only ever use Bosch. Strayed once and got a Smeg dishwasher. It was gone in a year.
