I'm not sure the Queen would have wanted things cancelled.

Anyone know if the inter counties athletic championship for u17 in Oxford tomorrow is going ahead?

I know for a fact that the Queen said the first thing she wanted cancelled was the inter counties athletic championship for u17 in Oxford.

Soz.

Hahahaha 😂😂😂😂

Yes I would like to know also and hope that the majority of people were able to so what they wished.

DH's event referenced up thread did not go ahead as the planned for weekend competition, but at 7 pm (!!) last night the organisers sent out a message saying they understood many people had both paid for their entrance (£400 odd) and travelled (in some cases internationally!!) for the event so they would run it as a practice fun event over the 2 days instead, yet with no prizes or planned for reception event nor indeed the results would not count.

For us it was at best a mere annoyance (because the fee will not be reimbursed obviously because something of some sort DID go ahead, and we did not have to travel) but it IS a fairly large inconvenience for many. And like others have said upthread, I really doubt HM The Queen who was a carry on at all costs and don't be sentimental type would not have wished for things she loved such as racing etc to be cancelled.

FWIW, the event DH was to participate in was something the Duke of Edinburgh loved throughout his life. When he passed the planned for events went ahead but with everyone wearing black armbands and with the participating teams also all gathering for a formal display prior and post competition.

Some of these replies are unnecessarily mean.

Anyway, I hope the event went ahead and that your dc enjoyed the occasion.

I know there are many disappointed children who were hoping to run Friday's 5K or the Junior Great North today, after all the build up and training they must have put in.

Apparently music in shops has been banned until after the funeral?? I went into work earlier and was told we can't have the radio on because people have complained that shops playing music is direspectful, so the government have banned it? What the hell?

There was music in some of the shops I was in today.
Thankfully none in JD sports though, I can usually only manage about three minutes before I feel irritated.

I didn't notice there was no music in Morrisons yesterday. I don't know if there usually is but it felt strangely quiet so I assume so.

Glittertwins · 10/09/2022 21:21

It did go ahead as a friend's DC competed

The queen gave us 2 bank holidays for the platty jubes just a few months ago. Doesn't that compensates a little inconvenience for a week or so.

If there is an extra day off for mourning for the funeral people wont be so quick to complain.

What the hell is "platty jubes"?

Testina · 10/09/2022 22:04

@CaptaNoctem something to do with the Queen, or a few months ago, involving 2 bank holidays.

I’m sure you can work it out.

SapphireSeptember · 10/09/2022 22:31

Maybe it's just the company I work for being over-zealous. Not that I minded. All the radio stations were playing sad songs yesterday and it got thoroughly depressing. A rare time when my playlist is more cheerful, being full of songs that are pretty dark. Grin

@Kerrrmieee you find an obviously anxious parent worrying about her kids (unwell) event being cancelled funny?

Jesus.🙄

You are right.

I can't help but find threads , especially with drip fed sick children - hilarious.

I've been chuckling about it all day. I told my elderly neighbour to register as it's such a hoot.

I've also forwarded it to next year's Edinburgh fringe me.

claim those clearly
